What type of clay system do you use, regular clay bar, fine clay bar, nanoskin claybar style handmit?

Ok guys so which is the best type of clay system you all use when it comes to detailing a vehicle prior to all the compounding, posihing and waxing?

Which have you found works the best and in which scenarios would you use the various types?

Do you usually use fine grade, regular grade or have you ever used any of those hand mitt or towel style nanoskin clay bar systems?
I just recently saw the nanoskin "fine" one and not sure if it actually works as well as using actual clay...

So in all your expert opinions and based on your own personal experiences, which types/brands do you use and why???
 
I use the regular one in Meg's & Mother's packages. Available OTC at decent prices & they work well.
 
Speedy Prep Towel on vehicles I plan to polish. Use lots of lube

Pinnacle Poly Clay when I am trying to avoid polishing

I have used the Meguiar's Red Heavy Duty Clay on an old oxidized Ford at Thursday Night Open Garage. It made quick work of it
 
I have all 3 grades of clay, GC light and Meg's medium and agressive clay. ONR as lube.

Heavy for the wifes white Cadillac, medium for my Jeep and light for windows and light water spot removal.
 
I used regular megs mild clay forever. Since I used a nanoskin I don't think I'll ever go back. Unless I was working on a car over $100k then I'd use clay. Reason being is I feel clay is a little less aggressive on the paint.

I have three grades of clay. Fine Poly clay, medium and coarse Clay Magic clays.

But I always start out with the fine and work up to the coarse only if required.
 
nanoskin fine wash mitt. I save clay for the really dirty jobs like wheels, door jambs
 
I use regular grade, good ole fashion clay. I always get the best results vs. the alternatives.
 
The nanoskin wash mitt is the only way to go. It is just so much quicker and easier/quicker to wash the vehicle, and then go back over it with the Nanoskin wash mitt before drying the car. I would say it is pretty much a must have item.

I haven't tried any of the alternatives so can't comment but am curious as to how well they actually work.

Yes, I get that they are quicker (anyone able to quantify by how much), but are they as effective - a) can you get everywhere you usually would when using traditional clay, or do you need to go back and 'touch up' with the clay for the 'hard to reach places' and b) do they get as much contamination off the paint as normal clay bars do?
 
I use the nano mitts as well. I love that you can feel the contaminants and know where it is not yet smooth with the mitt. So you can keep running over those areas to make sure it clears up.
 
Speedy Prep Towel (fine Grade) Way easier to use and on my hands. Old clay (fine / Medium grades) for behind wheels or wheels themself or anywhere thats real gritty. I feel like the towel works great on light surface contaminants but like clay for really ugly stuff I feel it absorbs and pulls in bigger particles and keeps them from scratching the paint better than the towel.
 
Nanoskin fine (sometimes medium) pad with PC7424. Follow instructions...break in pad on glass before applying to paint.
 
I've only used clay bar a couple of times but I'm using Chemical Guys medium.
