What Was Your First Car?

Sh** in a diaper brown 1976 Datsun 210. Looked just like this one. 4 speed manual, AM radio, crank windows, power nothing on that car. I swear that thing got like 50 mpg on the highway. I could drive to Champaign and back to Joliet without the gas gauge moving.

BTW: my high school sweetheart named the color...

1969 Ford Fairlane 500 that had been hit in the rear by a school bus. I used a specimen cup as a gas cap! Paid $500 to my Dad for the driving privilege. Those were the days.

1974 Chevy Nova Custom. My parents bought it brand new, my older brother bought it from them in 1987, and I bought it from him in 1988.

I still have it, it has 91k miles.

I’d love to resto-mod a 67 Riviera. That is such a cool body style. From the front grill/headlight to the rear and everything in between.

It was a great car, and I didn't appreciate it when I had it. It was 9 years old when I got it, and my two best friends had been given "newer" cars by their parents. I bought mine with money I made working at a funeral home cutting grass and washing hearses. $500.00, and I then had to go buy a spare wheel and tire for another $85.00 (I think that's what it cost). Emptied my bank account. I do wish I had it back. I also wish I had my wife's first car - a 1972 Mercury Cougar.

When I was 16 (1966) I got a job working some days after school and on weekends. This was my first car but I didn't keep it very long. I enjoyed my next car a little more, a 1958 Chevrolet.

1966 Volkswagen Bug, faded baby blue with one primer red fender.

Mom had a 440 Charger so shortly after my 16th birthday the bug was in the driveway. I was told congratulates this is your car and don't even think you will get to drive the Charger.

When I 1st saw your post, I thought to myself “wait how old is this dude to have a picture of his 1st car that’s that old on his computer”? I always picture you as John Goodman. Lol. So none of it made sense.

As far as the car, I didn’t even know they had Dodge Chargers back then. Shelby Charger makes for another thing I would’ve never thought existed either. I thought a Dodge Charger was a truck back then?

I am 41, like I said I borrowed the pic from the net. The truck you are probably thinking of is the Dodge Ramcharger.

1983 Hurst Olds with Lightening Shifter & T-Tops

I absolutely loved this car. Kept it until 1994 when I got my first real job out of college and sold it to of all people my then 60 year old mother in law who drove for years without issue in her small little farm town.

I'm 48 and my first car was a 1975 Chevelle/Malibu Classic. It was dark blue with a white vinyl top and my Dad traded a rifle for it, LOL. It was a 350 2 barrel with an automatic. This car had a fuel economy gauge too. The rear quarters were rusted out and I sprayed undercoating on the rust to cover it up. I also painted the frame and rear end white and no, I don't know why. I also blacked out the grill and headlight surrounds to give it an SS look and then added Super Sport emblems, SS badge in the grill and 350 badging. I remember my g/f back then had a brother in law who installed headers and turbo mufflers on it...just headers with the mufflers bolted right to the headers, no turn downs either, surely my neighbors didn't approve but it was Detroit in the mid 80's, we had other things to worry about back then, LOL.

1978 Mercury Cougar XR-7 coupe. Factory bucket seats, floor shift, and factory tach.

1967 Plymouth Barracuda hardtop, with 273 V8. Regrettably no pics, I was only 16 at the time (1978) and never thought about pictures.

Awesome H/O! I love the 83! My first car was the green 77 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham Sedan in the pic. I purchased the car in May 1992 for $1658.50. Still have it, almost 26 years later, and it still runs pretty good for over 148,000 miles. Over the years I picked up the other two, as I am kind of a sucker for Oldsmobiles! View attachment 62074

What is the significance of the exact dollar amount you paid for the 77 cutlass, just curious.
