Well as the title states what would nudge ya'll to consider buying American cars? What is it about American cars that you have experienced that makes you not consider them? Or what have you experienced from foreign models that keep you only considering them?

Most "American" cars have imported parts. So "American" cars are not usually 100%.

I find that any car is a good car, as long as you take care of it, it should run for many, many miles!
I had an old Toyota Corolla that has close to 300k miles on it, and ran like a champ. Father in law has a 94 Dodge Dakota with over 200k on it.

A big bad v8! :righton:

Oh, and the fact they only made 315 of them with the lines of the white frc helped me make my decision coming from awd dsm's!

Tex, I just mean Basically Ford and General Motors and loosely Chrysler. As the money and support of the vehicles they build help support communities in America far greater then any foreign manufacturer.

Ok so a big bad V8 is what C5 likes (as do I), but it seems that the majority of Americans enjoy corrolas and Hondas, and they sure don't have V8's.

Please don't take my post as a bash though. :p

I'm looking for a Honda or a Corrola to buy for a decent daily. Problem is that the insurance cost will be just as much or more then the Vette. Every car made has its pros and con's for the people looking for those. I'm an equal opportunity car lover! :D

LMAO.
I didn't take your post as a bash. So what is it about a corrola or Honda that you like as opposed to something like the Fusion or Impala?

I'm looking for a late 90's Accord or Civic. If I get into a car that has some issues its cheap and easy to fix. I can go down to the local pullapart and get a tranny for 150 bucks and have it swapped out in an afternoon. That and their reliability are the main reasons why. Its not gas mileage for the reason I'm looking. The vette gets 19-21 in the city and 28-30 on the highway. Thats pretty hard to beat when you're putting down 400hp.

thats some good mileage for 400 hp. I thought I was doing good in my 88 mustang. 26 mpg on the highway with 350 hp.

Ok so your looking for more of a cheap older car.
I guess I was originally only considering new car sales.

Well from the experience of seeing all the cars my parents went through while I was growing up, has taught me that American cars are so-so as far as longevity is concerned. If I was shopping for a truck, you bet it would be American. I love "American" trucks. They take a beating and still run forever.

We keep our cars a long time. One's a Ford; one's a Nissan. If you ask me which one I have confidence will make it to 200K miles it would be the foriegn one. Ask which one will develop rattles first, the domestic one.
I'd love to buy all domestic but first they have to be committed to providing the best product without squeezing quality for the corporate buck.
It's the same reason that Honda lawn mowers are highly considered, confidence and reliability.

i own 2 ford f350 powerstroke diesels and they run great 1 is 5 years old and the other almost a year. lots a power!!!!

Mike T-- Your story is what disheartens me as I hear it all the time. The American manufacturers disappointed so many people and now they are paying for that.

Jimmie-- I agree, and your perception is exactly what most of the population believes. I have never owned a foreign vehicle, but I can tell you that my Ford is one of the best cars I have ever owned, and it is 19 years old getting 26 mpg on the highway with 350 hp.

trhland-- nice trucks, and it amazes me how well built Ford trucks are. Now if they could spread that across all lines they would have a new customer in Jimmie...:awesome:

i agree american cars and trucks have had there share of problems. i stick with american do too they make dumptrucks and heavy duty pick ups . unfortanilty toyota doesnt make these. if they did im sure they would last longer. and they would want like 70 grand for a dump truck that i payed 45 for:p

American cars are borring plain and simple, Viper and Vette are the only standouts truely and the Vette is too refined and gizmo like for me, I like raw feeling, Vipers last of the breed of true drivers cars as it looks like the next model may even have traction control, blah. But even in street class or full race spec, those two stomp on competitors, wish Ford campaigned the FGT, but looks like a team is going to be running one for Lemans next which will be great to see.

Caddy nailed it with the CTS-V, very fun sedan to drive that I actually felt drove better then the e39 M5. Other than that, our cars suck and are borring. American manufacturers do it ass backwards, they tease with some of the sickest concepts and then we get a watered down clump of excitement lol. At least Chrylser had the 300C which is what Americans like, large, V8, rwd cars. Other than that, what else is interesting? Nothing..., GTO looks like an overgrown Cavalier, Ford brings out the Fusion and leaves out a manual, that car is aching for a manual trans with the 6 cylinder, would be a legitimate sports sedan as the other competitors offer one.

STS-V or E55/E63, I'm going with the AMG even though we had issues with an 03' when they first came out. CTS-V or RS4 I'm going with the Caddy, wasn't impressed with the RS4 for what it cost. Ford 500 or Chrysler 300C...no contest there, C all the way. So it can definitley depend.

As far as reliability acutally I'd say our American vehicles have been great. I had an 03' V8 Mountaineer that was well modded and damn quick yet never gave me a single hiccup even after multiple runs at he strip and towing etc. I still have an 00' V8 Moutnaineer with 96K miles on it that has never given me an issues besides normal maintenance. Our Towncar has never given us a problem. With that said most of the foreign makes we owned we had issues with, our E55 was lemon lawed, but even then I'd still buy one as the car was just a blast to drive. I'll put up with having a few more problems or whatever as long as the car is just plain fun.

surfer thanks! I would agree whole heartedly about the fusion. The V-6 should have a manual. I agree also about the concepts, they are simply beautiful but as surfer stated we get watered down lumps of ****.

Please keep them coming, I am glad to hear your opinions and hopefully I can pass them up the ladder.

A car takes looks good and drives good makes me want to buy one.

I dont really like American, There starting to get better but my dad got a new GMC seria and it was a POS everything proke right off the bat and it came with rust in the fenders

Gary, its so easy a caveman can do it.

Nuke, you are not serious about the rust are you?

i want better quility. myslef and my family have owned many N.A cars, all of them seem to break on a daily basis. Alot of it is small (like the locks 5 times on a town in couty on 4 years) but its a hassel to gte it fixed.

We have sicnce then started moving towards japanse cars (nissan, subaru, lexus) and thus far (3 years in) we have had no problems. The only thing was a small problem with my moms car. It was fixed in an afternoon. They picked up the car, left one for her to drive and then droped off my moms car. She didnt have to do anything.

So if N.A cars where built better and had better customer service (this is ffrom my expeinces) i would buy american

Calgary, I agree with the service part. I have and am having bad experiences with getting my chevy serviced. I can see why people are choosing to buy Asian cars. From what I hear they have much better service.
