what's the last car care/detailing video you've just watched?

My mentee just sent me this. He's looking to up his game and was wondering if this is the magic bullet he needs to make some quick cash. I don't know what to tell him guys. This product seems completely legit. I think Pan better look out. The new king of detailing products is here.

I've seen stuff on Instagram that produces remarkably similar results. I can't remember the name of it, basically I wrote it off as snake oil, I ignore most products I see on Instagram unless I already know the name of the company. I've seen similar results on headlights using WD40. But it only lasts a day or two. I saw a video on Instagram the other day about using WD40 to clean the windows on your car, I sort of want to test that out, but not on my own vehicle.

This.

Well that's annoying, it was a video of Ammo NYC detailing this vehicle, the current Guinness World record holder for fastest pick up/ute, in Sydney, after it was sold to a collector, it had been hidden in a shed in outback South Australia. I guess the new owner didn't like the publicity, as the video has been removed everywhere.

Agreed. My advice to the kid who sent me the vid was the same I have told him a thousand times before, get off of social media detailing.

I’m willing to bet those are towelettes moistened with Crisco. Instant gloss and when it dries and bakes in the sun you’re worse off than before.

Anyone ever heard of using therapy putty as a non abrasive clay bar?

Non abrasive meaning you can skip the polishing step? I might have to watch and Apex is at least reputable. Interesting.

I'll admit I can use the fine grade nanoskin towels/blocks though and don't always polish. Depending on paint type, I just don't believe 98% of people will ever know. Roast away.

I am reminded of the Nanoskin mitt I bought while we lived in Hawaii that got so sticky in a matter of a couple of weeks that you could do this pretty good Spiderman imitation

When I reached out to Nanoskin they blamed it entirely on me for NOT USING THEIR PROPRIETARY LUBE and instead using it with my soap bucket and with ONR and they said sorry, you are on your own

When I posted this back then (2022) others reached out on the thread with their own stories of Nanoskin products becoming that sticky

YMMV

Because car detailing clay is so hard to find and far too expensive. Don't get peoples logic sometimes.
The whole premise behind using therapy putty over conventional detailing clay is that the therapy putty does not contain the pulverized abrasive that conventional detailing clay does which in theory will help reduce the chance of marring.

I'll admit I have clayed without polishing as well, most recently on my mother's 2015 avalon haha.

Is it humidity related? Not an issue I have in Colorado but it does get sticky and I have to pull it apart after storing. After a little softening up though it seems fine. The DIY Detail one is similar. I think there's a video from DIY about how to store them but having to peel it apart before use is what I expect and with a little lube they have been fine with each use.

Actually our house was in a very dry part of the island, a mile up from the ocean

Once the mitt got sticky it stayed sticky, even lube, soap, etc wouldn't stop it from sticking to the point it simply wouldn't "glide" across paint anymore

I dunno

I love to watch him hone in on his pad and polish combinations and how he is so humble about what he does

I looked up the word HUMBLE and a link to his channel came up

I watched that last night and the metalflakes were driving me crazy at first because my mind kept seeing them as defects

I'm like screaming at the computer "look out, they're sneaking up behind you"
