What's a real harsh soap to get the nasty grime and baked on dirt off wheel I think I heard people using meguiars deep crystal car wash please help

Why not a wheel cleaning product to clean all the baked on items? I know I use whatever soap I pick for the day and use that after all my wheel cleaning products.

For something aggressive use Meguiar's Wheel Brightener. But be careful with what you use it on. It is very aggressive.

What are the wheels you are trying to clean?

agreed.

something like Sonax Wheel cleaner or the new 1z colorTec.

Wheels still follow the rule of least aggressive that will get the job done. Don't get too "harsh".

I think the OP may literally be looking for a good strong but safe "soap."

I've recently been searching for a good strong, high foaming wheel specific soap.

I've always used a dedicated wheel cleaner, letting it dwell and then following that with dawn at 1:1 in a spray bottle to really foam everything up with my daytonna brush and wash mitt.

Of course, this is for heavy cleaning on customer's cars.

So, as the OP originally posted, is there a good dedicated wheel "soap" that could be put in a bucket and possibly sprayed directly to really create a nice foaming action and cut fairly heavy brake dust and grime?

Perhaps the answer is Dawn. From my experience, I've never damaged any exterior vehicle surface with Dawn. For some reason it gets a bad reputation, but in truth, it's super safe. . .especially compared to some of the other wheel cleaners, car wash soaps and apc's people use. My only word of advice is never to use dawn as a maintenance product. For that, it's just too harsh.

I think most guys would be surprised at the incredible cleaning ability of Dawn on wheels. You can really foam things up with a daytonna brush and wool wash mitt and allow it to dwell for a few minutes. It will really break gunk up. Dwell time is the key.

Jermey I will have to agree that maybe Dawn is the answer.

I have only use CG Citus wash and gloss a few times so I can not comment on the wheel cleaning abilities of that soap but it might be another option.

I always use dawn on my wheels. I keep a mixture of soap and water in a spray bottle just for wheels and it always works great.

I can comment there: it works great, but requires a lot of rinsing.

It does definitely require a lot of rinsing. Flooding with regular hose seems to work best.

Roshan, ive also used megs apc straight, in the past. Like you posted about somewhere, its a great wheel cleaner and works wonders on tires.

Heres the catch...it stains some brake calipers BAD. Im too scared to use it now.

Another random fact...ive seen it stain black interior plastic even at 10:1. I used to love it but stay far far away now.

Ironx, dawn and maybe a little apc+ is all i use on wheels lately. Im always terrified of damaging something

I tend to not really use it on wheels. I prefer soap and water and if I need more kick OPC.

I only use it as a tire cleaner. I don't even use it on the interior.

Thank you for the heads up though, I will be sure to avoid it as a wheel cleaner especially.

:props:

If I do a detail that I know will use too much apc, I will buy 4 bottles of mothers all wheel and use one bottle on each wheel. Takes so much less time and comes in handy.

So back to the original question on a wheel specific soap, Larry Kosilla offers a wheel specific soap called AMMO Brute Wheel Soap. I haven't used it but I'm meaning to try it out one of these days.

I have the wheel soap from ammo it's just not worth the price for using it on customers cars

Man this stuff really cleans tires well! It really is one of the best tire cleaners out there. As soon as it hit's a tire, the brown will start exploding everywhere!
