When are you considered a business?

Sign the back and deposit it. I have never had a bank question a check being deposited.
I once deposited a check made out to "Bozo" and it was accepted with no questions.

In all pprobibilty, you don't have to make a profit to be considered a business, just having a business name would make you a business. Cashing the check isn't the problem, the problem is if the client uses it as a business deduction.

The advice to take a business course is good. So is the advice not to discuss this on a public forum ... you really don't know who is monitoring it. OPSEC (Operations Security). Remember, loose lips sink ships.

It may be beneficial for you to be a small business. There are lots of deductions that you can take, BUT it can be a pain to do all the record keeping and red tape of making it happen.

When you sell a product or a service your a business. There's no size or income criteria for being a business. If you accept money for a service or product your a business.

If you have a business name...it should be registered. Otherwise, you could get into some trouble with that. You can't claim checks written to your business name without it being legit. Get cash, or a check in your name...and toss that business name until it's registered.
