Where were you on Sept 11 2001?

I was at work in a conference room in a meeting. We had heard some comments during the meeting that a plane had hit one of the powers did not know the magnitude until around 10 am.

I was ready to get on a plane in Seattle, WA. After the second tower was hit, our flight was canceled. My wife and I went back into seattle to get a hotel room. Downtown seattle was mass chaos. Everyone was having trouble renting a car or getting a new hotel room.

We were able to get a hotel room. We ended up renting a car and driving all the way across the country to get home to Pittsburgh. A very small inconvenience, considering how many people lost their lives on that day. I still think about how difficult it must be for the family members of the victims.

As a side note, my neighbor's son in law was supposed to be in WTC one, but stayed home from his trip due to illness. He was very lucky to be sick earlier that week.

Intresting read. I appreciate everyone sharing their stories. Its fascinating to me to see how young some of you were 10 years ago. Did I read someone say they were in kindergarden?!?!?!?!? Holy Smokes!!!

Gob Bless America :insert my own American Flag because all I can find is one from Canada: HINT HINT

I thought I was young until I saw kindergarden and 3rd grade! lol

I was working at a Ford dealership in the parts department. My boss came to me and said a plane crashed into one of the WTC buildings so we went out into the waiting area where there was a tv. I couldn't believe my eyes. I'll never forget that day, that's for sure.

I walked in history class about 5 minutes late and ask myself what movie is this. It was and still is hard to believe.

I was a 6th grader at middle school. Minding my own business with my friends in the court yard and saw teachers running and screaming to tell us to call our parents asap.

I was sleeping as it was early in the morning Hawaii time when the phone rang and my wife and I figured it was a mainland marketing call (get them all the time)the answering machine picked up and we heard her sisters voice who knows the time difference so we picked up the phone and she tells us to turn on the TV as she explains what was happening. We were sick over this as we're both New Yorkers and I was a union electric an in Manhattan for 16 years before moving and my brother being an active member of NY FD.I called family in N.Y to find out that my brother had just gotten off of work and was on his way home when he got the call to return to the firehouse.I did lose one High school buddy that worked in the Trade center and to this day I am so saddened when I see the N.Y. skyline without the towers.

Home when the first plane hit. On the way to work when the second hit. At work for the other 2. Spent the day on the roof with a rifle. When I got home that night, I took my sons into the living room and told them to remember yesterday as best they could because that was the last day we would think or act like that for a long time.

It looks like the people on this thread haven't forgotten. I wish that were true of others.

I was on my way to work when an old Army buddy of mine from the 75th called and asked if I wanted to reenlist for some payback for what happened to us in Mogadishu. All I said was "WTF are you talking about Sanchez?" And then he told me what had happened. I hung up and pulled over and wept for those innocent people.

I was playing war games at Shaw AFB when we were told what was going on. All available TVs were turned on and we watched in horror at the events that unfolded. Alot of emotions poured out that day. That feeling of helplessnes, and sadness for the victims. Then anger and frustration that we couldn't go to the scene and help. Eventually our Higher Headquarters put our focus back on the mission and we stopped the war games and proceeded to provide support the way we were trained to. My emotions still run high whenever I see footage from that day.

Very true... as a member of the public safety sector, I have watched the polticians vote to close or brown out fire companies and police substations; lay off firefighters and cops and blame the economic crisis on cop's and firefighter's "lavish salaries and pensions".

On Sunday, these same politicians will be standing at the podiums of 9/11 memorial services and extoll the bravery of those who responded to 9/11 and protected their communities in the wake of 9/11, on Monday, September 12th they will vote to close or brown out fire companies and police substations and vote in favor of laying off firefighters and cops to make themselves look "fiscally responsible" so they can get re-elected... hypocrisy at its best.

I was at work, and when the word got there, A co-worker rigged up the monitors that were for video players only so they could recieve an outside station. Management even OK'd doing it. People would swing by on breaks to catch up on the latest.

I was numb with what happened, and wondered if this was the start of WWIII. Everybody at work was in an a kind of daze. Driving home, I saw lines at gas stations, and I filled up too, but only because it was a day I needed to get gas anyway.

And now, 10 years later, our leaders are worried about "offending" the people who support such atrocities. WHAT THE H--- ?

I was on the trading floor of the chicago mercantile exchange working. The all phones from the world trade center went dead. No one knew what happened. Then we saw the screen. The market went crazy till they halted trading. The government thought us or the Sears tower was next, so the evacuated us. That was one crazy day.

A classmate lost his son in Iraq, and 2 more fine young men from my small town of 2,000 were killed in Iraq. Even us old dogs shed tears at their funerals.

I have 2 nephews who did tours in Iraq/Afghanistan, and returned safely, thank God. To fellow veterans, and to those now serving, "Thank you and God Bless You, and God Bless America".

I was outside mowing the lawn and my mom ran outside yelling to have me come inside and watch something on the news. I was just 12 years old at that point so it was quite an eye-opener at that age.

I was in my 9th grade Italian class. The principal came over the PA and said that a plane hit the WTC and I immediately ran to the main office and called my mother who worked right down the block from there. I wasn't able to call her because the phones were down, but when she came home she told us her story. She was in a conference room with a direct view of both planes hitting the WTC. She didn't know what to do besides get out of Dodge. It took her 6 hours to get home that day. She had to walk across a bridge and met my father in the Queens to get home. Scary day. If anyone was affected here directly, my condolences to you and yours. And I think everyone's attitude/views changed after that day. Airport security surely did change!

I remember sleeping soundly because i had the day off. Then a knock on my bedroom window. It was my best friend Rubin. This was not out of the ordinary as he loved to pound on my window to wake me up. Then i noticed a distress in his voice that startled me. i collected my self and opened the door. He started spewing out words in his New yorican speed talk so fast i could hardly understand. he grabbed the remote and put on the news. My heart sank, time stood still.Im from New York and so is Rubin. We watched in horror as our home was attacked. It was so unreal. When the second plane hit it was one of the most shocking feelings i can remember to date. and then the pentagon. I feared a war on American soil and couldnt believe my eyes.
Then all i could think of was calling everyone in my family to make sure they were ok and to make sure i told them all I loved them. Most unforgettable day ever!!!
