Which Optimum tire gel should I get?

Just to torture you, I should send you a sample of OptiBond to hook you and then you'd be stuck with all your other inventory just sitting there gathering dust.

Thanks, but I already bought the little sample bottle of Opti-Bond, tried it once, but was a good boy and went back to using up my other stuff...;)

ive been useing optimum tires shine. and love it . cant wait to try out the newer one.

I love most Optimum products, but I didn't care for Opti-bond at all, and I traded it away.

The one product that really gives me the look that I want on tires is Meg's #40.

Rob,

Does the #40 sling for you? I used it and several others on tires many years ago and moved away from them as my quarter panels tended to get black spots when it rained or I drove through puddles.

I seem to see less quarter panel spotting with Opti-Bond but it could also be that I'm getting less build up of break dust on the tires or I'm cleaning them better.

Nah, he's just one of the few that actually listen to feedback from customers. Although the original tire shine worked well for some, the majority wanted a little more gloss so he listened. As far as making both products, I'm sure he will continue as long as he feels he has a legitimate contribution to the demographic that uses each. I don't know of any major player that doesn't offer both a traditional and a gel tire product.

Or you could donate them to the intersection homeless that try and clean windshield. It may be a game changer for them...people would probably prefer to have their tires shiny than a half cleaned windshield.

Hey Chris, Is the major difference between Tire Shine and Opti-bond that one is a spray liquid and the other a gel? I use Opti-bond sometimes yearn for a spray. I don't own a compressor so the opti-bond sprayer won't work for me. Thanks!

Yes, I do get sling with #40. This is why I have continued to search for a tire dressing that does it all (I'm not looking for a product to improve on the looks of #40).

My never ending search in that regard continues...

I picked up some Opti-Bond in trade. It smells like Optimum's Protectant (some leather like smell). I hope to try it this weekend.

I think the detailing elves and fairies look down at us and laugh.

#40 wasn't a bad look but the quarter panels would look terrible in a day or two. I still use #40 in various places around the car and when I need a rubber/vinyl/plastic cleaner too.

I like the way it looks but I'm not sure about applying a gel evenly. BobbyG uses a paint brush to apply, which probably would solve my dilemma. That or a compressor and an airsprayer.

The new one is glossier and has similar durability compared to OB. You can spray OB at 1:1 though...if you already have it. I have used it in a trigger sprayer before.

CEEDOG should be getting a sample of 1z vinyl rubber care very soon to do a review on.

Nice matte finish , possibly semi gloss, and absolutely water resistant. It will last through the rain and carwash's. and will absolutely not run onto the paint when it gets wet when used on trim. The only way to remove it is with APC.

This is the best product I have ever found, even though its a thin spray. I'll be honest and say that I prefer a gel or cream like opti-bond, but none of them live up to the water resistant durability of the 1z product.

The 1z has "advanced german polymers in it" that are patented and is also "streak free". (qoutes from back of bottle). Its also "water based".

I do plan to get my hands on some of the Ultima product in the near future. so i'm interested in a durability test between the two, which i believe CEE-DOG will enlighten us to. although i'm guessing Utlima might have the advantage as its labeled as a trim "sealant" and the 1z is a two step product that also cleans. but only a review will tell.

Ummm... What the heck do ultimate and 1z have to do with a thread on which Optimum tire product to use?

When will the new formula optima tire gel be offered ?

I think I've finally decided after reading everything here, I will wait for the new formula Tire Shine in a gallon. I prefer after drying the car to use the dressing in a spray bottle to coat the tire, and as I go back and polish/wipedown the wheels, I take a towel and wipe down the excess. Anyone here who has used tire shine could compare it to Meguiars ASD?

Thanks all,

Tom

Opti-Bond diluted 1:1 and applied with a spray gun is hard to beat! :xyxthumbs:

i spray opti-bond diluted at 1:1 out of a regular spray bottle and it works great. you dont have to have the gun to get good results with it.
