Which Products do you wish you NEVER BOUGHT?

unfortunately posts like this usually do more harm then good as they trounce of someones favorite product. I hope all will consider that and offer an alternative any why something was found to be better.

+1

I've talked to several vendor representatives lately and came to the conclusion that many manufacturers have reformulated their products since I have last tried them. I actually have come to re-like some products that I had not used in quite some time.

With that said, many, if not most, of the "regrets" are understandable and self-explanatory. Some however, as pointed out by vendor reps on the forum, are linked to user error, and or the lack of following the prescribed directions.

Why so much TW hate? Im using their ICE wash and wet n black tire shine. Both great products by the way. Most of their other products though are pretty crappy I must admit. But they have a few good ones.

The wet n black I like especially because it leaves more of a matte sheen most of you guys desire and it lasts for several weeks and wont dissappear after a single rain storm.

For what I wish I didnt buy, I would have to say megs #7, TW f21 interior super protectant and meguiars ultimate quik detailer.

I can't really say anything sticks out to me as "terrible".

I too used the Craftsman "buffer", hell, close to 10 years ago when I first got my Mustang. It worked, but using the paste wax by hand would have been just as good. I think I also got some Craftsman brand wax with it too that I used religiously.

Then I moved onto Zaino and Tropi-Care after I got it painted, and used both exclusively. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

My arsenal is a little more varied now, with no huge regrets :)

Eagle One detailer and spray wax. Put a cloudy haze on my car that wouldent wash off.

I really do not like any RainX products. I've used their window treatment and after the hard work of getting it apllied it lasted less than a week. Their window stripper works but it is a b**** to use. I'll stick with Aquapel. I've got Aquapel on my windshield right now that has lasted so far about 3 mo. and still works good.

Most of the stuff mentioned on the first 10 pages of this thread really might not matter anymore as this is a 5 year old thread ;)

That said, I was lucky enough to have some good guidance from here and a friend that showed me the good stuff right away as soon as I got into detailing so I really don't have any purchases I regret.

1.Mothers Back to Black tops my list.
2.Sonax Tire shine

Chenille wash mitt - just bought three and they all self destructed on the first wash on delicate in my washer - picking lint/chenille parts off the insides for an hour - back to microfiber....

I would say Turtle Wax Ice, but I used when I sold my last car just to do a real quick wax for the buyer and it turned out ok...so like some others have said, everything has its use.

Here's my list. When I first started out getting in to detailing I used a lot of Griots stuff since their flagship store is a 45 minute drive down the freeway, so I have lots of experience with their products. I've since expanded to a huge variety of products since joining AG.

  1. Mothers Back to Black - runny, messy, and doesn't last at all.
  2. CP Fog Fight - total pain to apply, leaves a slight film no matter how well you buff it off, and appears to have lost its ability to prevent windows from fogging up after 2 weeks.
  3. Griots Garage Machine Polishes #1 & #2 - these things are like rocks in a bottle. Horrible marring is left after using either product that takes a lot to work back out. M105/205 are light years ahead of the Griots polishes.
  4. Griots Garage Paint Prep - not cost efficient at all and didn't put a dent in removing a coat of WGDS 3.0.
  5. Griots foaming sprayer - it does foam up their wheel cleaner, but I think it uses twice as much product per spray to do so and ultimately I'm just going to agitate the cleaner with a brush which will foam it up anyways. Waste of money and wastes lots of wheel cleaner.
  6. Griots Best of Show - sorry, tried applying it thin thin thin on a few different occasions and it still is horrible to remove. Not worth the effort.
  7. Surbuf pads - I'm sure many will disagree with me, but I've found that you can get pretty dang close to the same compounding results simply by using a yellow flat pad, and the microfiber pads offered by Megs and Optimum both cut as well as the Surbufs and finish much nicer.

I have used best of show on a wet car and that helps quite a bit.

My local auto parts store wishes I never bought ONR. Thanks to Dr. G, they've lost a regular customer for their car wash soaps. The 64oz. jug of Meg's Car Wash I bought there last year will probably show up in my estate sale! :props:

1. turtle wax compounds, waxes, polishes. all just dont work that great hard to remove, just all around pain to use, only have 2 tw products in my arsenal and thats the wet and black gel for people who like really shiny tires(need to find something else) and the chrome polish which i use rarely.

2. eagle one metal nano polish- stuff does not work good at all, its like working with half cured RTV silicone, dont even polish much at all. just not a good product

3. this one i dunno if i should get rid of my cat or my wash mit, the advance auto wool wash mit, worked fine, then i cleaned it and worked fine, cleaned again and started to come apart and then i noticed a hole. said oh well can use it on dirty, swirly horrible cars. so i was letting it dry and had it over the output of a small blower fan and the cat was in the room. i hear scratching and i forgot about the cat at this time i look down and cats in a pile of wool wearing a wool beard and all. all i could do was laugh.....so yeah advanced auto wash mit, dont last long, and attracts cats.
