Which way should I go for paint correction? Pictures inside.

I bought this 06 f250 King Ranch and obviously the paint has a few issues. They dont look deep just more of a marr I guess you would call it. There are some deeper ones, but they are screwed I think, at least on my level.

Anyway, I attached some pictures and was wondering which was to go? Bobby recommended me to use the Mags DA MK kit ( Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System 5 Inch Starter Kit, paint correction kit, dual action polishing kit ), and I dont want to send him anymore PMs :doh: haha. But from some reviews Ive seen that it doesnt cut deep enough and its hard to remove. So far I watched a few videos with Mike Phillips ( I think ) and he used a three stage Wolfgang product and looks like it came out well.

I dont think Bobby would steer me wrong, its just he didnt see pictures and now I have some. So maybe there is a better approach? I need the pads and the materials to go with it.

that will be a good start but if they are deep the only way is to wet sand and is very expensive it depends, i take it it not a show truck so you could go with m105, foloow by m 205 with a flex da
 
I would think that the DA kit that you linked in conjuction with a Griot's Garage would be able to take out 90% if not more of the damage in your paint.

The DA microfiber kit is VERY versatile!

It's hard to know without testing, but you may need a compound that is stronger. In that case, I would go with Meguiars M101.
 
Since you have lots of swirls and holograms (buffer marks), this video I made shows what a Griot's Garage and microfiber disks paired with M101 is capable of on those same exact issues! Although, the paint hardness is probably much different.

You'll be surprised how much correction the kit will do, just don't do 1 pass.
 
Im just a Joe Schmo looking to clean his car, so I dont know how to best utilize any of these products. Whats the best way to use the kit then?

1. Do I do multiple pass with each compound on the same area/panel until gone? Or do I do both steps then go abck to the first compound?

2. If I were to use a more aggressive cutter, I would have to get another pad, right? Which one is recommended for the M101?

1) The most important thing to do is a test spot. Get one little area perfect, get your technique up to par, and then rinse and repeat all over the rest of the car. You may find that you need 3 passes of compound, followed by 6 passes of polish... or 8 passes of compound, followed by 4 passes of polish to get a perfect spot. These are just examples, not guidelines by any means.

2) Microfiber cutting pads are just about as aggressive as they come. This pad would be totally recommended for M101 or just about any compound or really any polish too. You want to use the least aggressive combo that gets you the results you are looking for!
 
Ohh okay yeah, I remember that from his video... The up and down, left to right. Do you think its worth buying the m101 along with the DA MF Meguiars kit? Which pad do I need for the m101?

At 50 dollars, I think you would be better off trying the kit compound first and then if you need the M101, ordering it. Chances are you won't even need it!

It's too bad it's so expensive, considering how awesome it is :/

As I mentioned in the last post, M101 works perfectly with the microfiber cutting disk :props:
 
OKay will do. I havent even look into it yet. Ohok, I was unaware that was the name of the type of MF disk. Ive seen cutting, thrown around so much,I thought it was just an aggressive style of MF on the disk lol
 
Here are some of my results. These are just with a harbor frieght DA polisher and their crappy foam pads. I have a Nissan Titan that I scratched he heck out of from running against a bush down a trail.

I went at it with M105 (orange cutting pad) and M205 (blue finish pad) after washing then claying and got every swirl, hologram and scratch out other than the ones that were just too deep. Below are a few 50-50's.

BTW: I am getting some Microfiber F1 and F2 polishing pads from Chemical Guys. These foam pads are ok but I need something faster. Stepping down to a 5" backing plate and 5.5" MF pads.

Nope, all my stuff I used you can get at Harbor Freight. The kit you linked to should be great (way better than the pads I have) for your needs. Its pretty much what I'm looking at buying right now. If the compound doesnt get everything out you can run to autozone (if you have one near by) and get M105. I'm not sure where they are on the cut scale though.

You'll need a actual polisher as well however, like I said I just got a Porter Cable clone at harbor frieght for cheap to see how I would like polishing my truck.
 
I like m100 better than m105 with a megs mf cutting pad, but if you already got m105 or if thats whats easier for you to get then try that first. I got to play with this combo on super hard paint recently with a deeeeeeeeeep RID and it got it out in a few minutes.

You used a da with m100?
 
But from what I've read the HF DA is pretty much the same thing as many others just way cheaper..
 
D300 and MF cutting discs are great, however I have never used the MF Finishing pad and wax... I always finish with something like a Black pad and M205 (or whatever the job calls for).

I would assume the DA MF Correction kit would be great for your situation - it has everything you need (besides the buffer and backing plate) and is a great value. Don't forget to pick up the Meguiar's brush as well to keep the pads clean after each section.
 
I thought there was a backing pad? I'll deff have to look into that.
 
Just remember to use compressed air to clean the MF pad after each area...like 2'X2". The first car I did was with a MF pad I got from Chemical Guys and m105. The truck was trashed and it came out great...check it out here http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/57743-first-detail-14yr-old-f150.html I really like MF pads but I think something with longer working time than 105 would be better for someone new to detailing.

I have also used menzerna FG 400 and think its a great product but never used it with MF pads but will soon. I think FG400 with MF would work great and be a better option that can be followed up with a nice polish on a white or black pad....maybe menzerna sp4000.

I wouldn't start anything until you learn the basics here...like doing a test spot, PC speed and arm speed when doing section passes, when to know when it's time to change or clean the pads, on and on. Good luck
