Why do men buy their wives black cars?

I certainly don't mean to be harsh with this, but I've noticed a trend I just had to ask about. Every black car that I've done (I'll admit up front, there's only been 2) has been dropped of by a man with the comment, "I don't know how she did this!"

And they have looked like this...

With the front fenders like this...

The front fascia all scratched up like this...

And the interior trashed like this...

I've heard all my life about "women drivers," but I only half-way believed it until I saw the difference between cars driven by men compared to those driven by women.

I certainly don't want this to end up as some kind of sexist thread, but I have to ask if this is typical? And if so, why is it that women - who obviously aren't careful - drive black cars that will show all this damage?

anyone notice something even worse than the paint in picture 3?

The bald tires?

I see that alot with clueless men and women.

I saw a dude once in some generic 90s sedan, I dont remember what it was. The front tires were just like that and the rears looks practically brand new. They were the same exact tires too. I have a feeling they have never rotated them once. It was rediculous.

The real clue to that is the front wheels are totally black from brake dust, while the backs are (comparatively) clean.

What about the doll on the floor in the back with the little zebra dress?

That floorboard was what made me start the thread about the strangest thing anyone had ever found. I pulled all kinds of stuff out from under that seat: Toys, a bottle of water, a hammer, a video camera, a bible ...

My first car was black- got it repainted orange the first chance I got! I said I'd never own another black car again...

....and here I am, on my 3rd black car.

I'll never learn.

Ive seen cars like that before. Nasty.

With my story though I really dont remember. I have a feeling it had steelies and hub caps. So I wouldnt see the brake dust anyway.

That is too funny a combination...

On another forum a pro detailer posted about a car basically full of garbage and I have to say, I have seen this twice...once I parked next to a car, I couldn't look too closely because the driver was in it, but the entire back seat, up to the level of the top of the front seat, was full of garbage, fast food wrappers, etc.

Then one night I went to Pep Boys, and there was a small SUV, and the entire vehicle, except for the driver's seat, was FILLED TO THE ROOF with stuff. It was dark, so I couldn't really see what it all was, and I was in a hurry to get into the store...but it didn't look like it was someone moving or something like that, it looked like JUNK.

And of course my crazy friend that has like 300 fast food napkins, carefully folded up on the floor, and a mini refrig that he bought 2 years ago, still in the box in the back of his wagon...but as another friend says, he has issues...enough to start his own newsstand...

Who is it who has the signature "black isn't a color, it's a part-time job"?

Yeah, I've seen that. It was something like a mid-80's Cavalier that looked like they had been piling junk in there since it rolled off the assembly line. Clothes, boxes, towels, etc. The only space in there was the driver seat.

And here I freak out over some dog hair on the floor mat!!

*cry* I totally get this thread. My wife drives a Kia Spectra with Dark Bronze (appears graphite) paint. That car is my 'test project' to learn how to remove some serious problems. By her own admission she has no love for the vehicle.

She wants a black car next go around, and I'm hoping that color is easy to paint match hehe.

You will all get to see pics as I try to restore the damage. Gotta replace front AND back bumper covers, and fix dings \ road rash \ scratches. Then figure out how to repair or replace the upholstery on the back seat and front drivers. Its not a project for resale value (spectra = low resale), but for learning :D

I don't know, but what I do know, I wouldn't work on a car as beat up as that. It needs to be re-painted.

The doll in the back should be a hint that the family has other priorities than a repaint on their acura any time soon. The upper paint might look worse than it is. It might buff out. The bumper cover could either be touched up to put the damage out of sight and out of mind for the time being, or black vinyl could be neatly cut to cover that area, go across under the fogs, and cover the opposite side in exactly the same way as the passenger side.

You make good points, but I have no desire working on a car that's in that current condition.
