To nail it even further to the "Muscle Car" era... Mike also posted he had a friend In high school that had one and it was pretty fast (paraphrased). I think I've read Mikes 51, so he was probably born in 1961 and would have graduated in around 1979.
That eliminated one of my guesses a 1985 Buick Grand National.
1969 - Chevrolet - Trans Am Camaro
Why you shouldn't put a LS1 in Shelby or a Mustang? Because its a Chevy motor, that's why! I'm one of those people who can't stand to see these beautiful Ford's only to find they have a LS in them because it was cheaper and easier. I understand what hot rodding means, but I just like to see Ford with Ford and Chevy with Chevy. As far as an LS1 in a Cobra, why not, its not like any of the AC cars have their original engines, LOL! Hey Chris I always though a 2.3L SVO turbo engine would be cool in the Cobra kit car! Less weight over the front would make the car handle great and some "tweaks" to make about 350 hp would make that thing fly!

Can you tell I'm a die hard Ford guy yet?
