Win a trip to Autogeek and Show Car Garage!

Hi guys. I have been looking at this thread for days notw and decided that I lose nothing by entering. My name is Rolaunda and I am a happily single 40 yo woman. I have been looking, learning, and applying a lot of the things that I have been posted here. I currently work 2 jobs but still find the time for my "hobby" of ensuring that mine, and a few of my friends cars, are as clean as I can get them without polishing. (<--fearful of putting machine to a car) :-) I am getting closer to eliminating that fear the more I look at the beautiful work posted here.

I would love to come down to experience, absorb, and apply some of the invaluable knowledge being offered. I am confident that with the new found knowledge I would accept more offers of the paid variety. Ultimately, I would love to open my own little shop where I could be paid for something that I absolutely love to do.

Name: Troy Scherer
Age: 29 (After 5 years I finally caught up with my wife.) :awesome:
Relationship: Married to my lovely wife Jo. I also have a stepson Justin who is 14.

Location: Dover, Ohio

Occupation: Project Manager for EUROCASE
  • Eurocase is an Architectural Cabinets & Millwork company that specializes in premium grade commercial laminate cabinets and countertops as well as architectural millwork.
Vehicles:
  • 2004 Acura RSX (Arctic Pearl Blue)
  • 2009 VW Jetta (Platinum Gray Metallic)
Hobbies:
  • Golf: I enjoy golfing and I try to go about once every week or so. Currently though my golf time is minimal as Justin is part of his varsity golf team as a freshman, so I am spending most of my time at either golf matches or coaching him.
  • Yard Work: I find that mowing my lawn is a calming experience that gives me time to think and reflect on the day’s events and upcoming projects. (Like detailing my car) :autowash:
  • Wii: We have a great time playing some Wii Bowling, or Wii Golf as a family. It’s something that everyone can do and it is just a blast to play.
  • Auto Care: I truly enjoy every aspect of vehicle maintenance. I do all my own tire rotations, oil changes, brakes, and other general tasks.
  • Auto Detailing: I have both vehicles on a weekly wash routine using all of my favorite products. (WG Foam Gun, DP Extreme Foam, Cobra Bone, 2BM, ARO, Various Brushes, Cobra Guzzlers, FK425, and Cobra Shamrocks). I try and do a good interior detail approximately once every 2 months while doing general cleaning and upkeep as needed. But the best part for me is the fact that I get to wax our vehicles usually once a month. The law of diminishing returns?...who cares! It brings me so much joy after spending a couple of hours on a vehicle to step back and see the liquid shine I have created.
Why I want to Win:
I am currently in the process of turning this love and passion for detailing that I have into a part time business, and my family is incredibly supportive in my endeavor of making this dream a reality. My stepson has designed my logo on his computer, and I am slowly starting to bring in other customers than my standard friends and family. Just recently, I impressed my boss when I resurrected his black daily driver to its former glory, which is now enabling me to now do the family Firebird T/A which they view as a special collectors item.
I want to attend the classes by Mike Phillips and AutoGeek so I can extend my knowledge base of tools & techniques so that I can offer more than just the standard wash and wax that is done around here. This is a great opportunity to learn from the hands of one of the masters, an experience which could never be duplicated. :urtheman:
I don’t really have a great story or reason for as to why you should pick me over anyone of these other Auto-geeks other than this one simple fact: My wife has given me permission to go if you pick me. But I know that if there is a next time, she might not be so generous. :argue: So this could really be my once in a life time opportunity. :thankyousign:

Good luck to everyone! This is terribly exciting! Just reading the itinerary seems like a blast already!

Dear Meghan,

This is why I think I should be chosen. I have just started my own detailing company, and about to detail my first customer car. As I have grown up, I have always found cars to be a work of art. A automobile to me is not just a mode of transportation. We don't just choose our cars based on what is available, but the highest influence in our choice is how that car represents us. The color, and lines of the vehicle descripe our personalities, our likes and our dislikes. It tells us who we are. As we sit in the leather seats it changes who we are. As we run our fingers over a fresh paint and feel the personality of that car along the curve of the fender does more then just show the beauty. The car represents the dreams of someone that created it, that put there life and passion into that car. Detailing a vehicle to me is bringing a vehicle back to how it was meant to be. Back to how the designer or builder of that car meant it to describe it's owner. A work of art that pours out personality upon anyone that looks at it. As detailiers we clay, polish and wax a vehicle not to make it last longer, but to bring that vehicle back to it's orginal art form. Dirt, scratches, and things that we clay off, distract from the vehicles beauty and personality and just makes the owner of the vehicle look lazy, dirty, and careless. We detail a car to bring it back to it's natural beauty, and help that car represent it's owner. That is what all the products and techniques are designed to do. Bring that vehicle back to it's orignal art form. That to me is why we detail a car, what detailing is to me. and I think you should pick me so I can learn more and be able to bring the vehicles that I work on back to what they were designed to be... a piece of art. This is what my company is all about. Producing the highest quailty results back to the car, and allowing the car to represent it's owner. It's all about reaching perfection.

I'm 23 and recently married (only 3 of the greatest months of my life :) and my name is Kelly Davis

Dear Meghan,

My name is Scott and I'm from Portland, Oregon. When people think of detailing, they don't think of Portland as a place to have there cars detailed, but for me it's just the opposite. In a state the has it's far share of rain, keeping a car looking good and protected is key.

For the past 2 years, I have been detailing as a side job and trying to take the best care of my cars, with Autogeeks.net help of course. Buying different products from polishes to waxes, interior and exterior tools, not to mention trying to master the rotary buffer, but there is always something more to learn. New techniques and technology is coming out all the time.

I've learned a lot from the video's that Mike has done, not only for Autogeek.net but when he was at Meguiar's. I think this trip would not only allow me to perfect the techniques need to make a cars surface swirl free but also give me more appreciation for what a true professional detailer is. The trip would allow me to learn more about wet sanding and the proper way detailing. With Mike's help I know that I will have the confidence to do a great job all the time.

Furthermore, what a great opportunity to meet the amazing team at Autogeek.net and get one-on-one time with the successful people and business. I think this would be the trip of a life time and who ever wins it will be blessed!!

Thanks for you time,
Scott

Hi, my name is Tony, and I like to detail paint. I waxed my first car in 1980, or 1981, I don't remember. I practiced cleanliness in cars in the early 90's.

In 2000, I bought a Black Honda Del Sol VTEC. (the one with the 160 hp B16A3 engine) This car had a lot of paint defects, as the previous owner had absolutely no interest in maintaining it's appearence. I picked up some meguiars products, a Chamberlain Waxmaster, and went to work. To make a long story short, I had absolutely no clue as to what I was doing. I eventually got it near defect free, with the exception of several small spots that were etched into the finish. This is when I learned that Megs #9 has a lot of oils in it, and could be used to hide my mistakes :xyxthumbs: (or used to quickly make a car look very good)

(Btw...that car lived at 8,200 rpm's)

Fast forward...

In 2003, I bought a new Honda S2000, which is currently inside of my garage just chillin  I hooked up with some peeps from an S2K forum, went on numorous group drives, lunches/dinners ect. Along the way, I met some peeps that were heavily into detailing. In 2004, I was introduced to detailing clay. A friend told me that he likes to "clay his car". I thought to myself, "what the heck man, why this foo puttin silly putty on his car for?" This same cat detailed every suspension component on his S2K :buffing: Anyhoo, I got some clay (given to me from another friend) 2-3 months later. When I used it, I was like "holy clean surface Batman!!!" The clay actually removed some stuff that the polish wouldn't remove.

About a year later, I purchased a PC from AG, along with a boatload of other stuff. At that time, I started reading the forums at AG, as well as Autopia, MOL and a few more.

I would like to (actually I would love to) start up a automotive detailing business. Detailing is called detailing, because a detailer pays attention to detail. There is still a lot for me to learn, which is why it would be a tremendous benefit for me to take the two classes taught by Mike Phillips, and talk with the entire AG crew.

So what do you say? Can ya hook up a brotha?

:buffing:
