Continuation of my review of Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant which began here:
http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/product-reviews/38288-wolfgang-ets-subject-1-abused-car.html

Today I am reviewing Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant (ETS) on my own vehicle, which falls into the 'cared

for' category. Specifically I am testing the sealant in a head-to-head match up with my favorite tire gel

(DP Gloss Tire Gel), my favorite Trim Sealant (Ultima Trim and Tire Sealant) and seeing how the brand new

Wolfgang Exterior Trim sealant stacks up!

The competitors:

A brief History: The tires I am testing on have been are Dunlop Star Spec low profile ultra high

performance summer tires. This is the second season they have been run, and from day 1 they have been

protected with DP GTG, which despite being a water based tire gel, proved to be a pretty good match to get

removed.

Removal process was dwell with APC+ 4:1 for 2 minutes, then scrub vigorously with a Mothers tire brush.

Tires were rinsed, then APC+ 4:1 was re-applied and they were scrubbed again. To make sure the previous

treatment was removed, they were then soaked in OPC 3:1 for 2 minutes and scrubbed again before rinsing and

drying.

*Note for those of you familiar with my reviews, these photos were taken with my 20D and a 50mm f1.8 lens

(my 7D was busy downloading pictures).

My initial conclusions:

Detailers Pride / Detailers Pro (white) Gloss Tire Gel offered the darkest look on the tires. Both Ultima

Trim and Tire Guard and Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant applied easily and gave a very nice 'like new' matte

finish.

WETS vs UTTG: In person at the initial application, the UTTG appears to be just a shade darker.

DPGTG vs UTTG: DPGTG is darker and slightly more glossy than UTTG. UTTG is more of a matte finish, though I

have never considered DPGTG to be glossy on its own, just in comparison.

WETS vs DPGTG: Basically the same as the above comparison. DPGTG is slightly darker and more glossy.

Durability test will be added weekly ... look forward to updates!

The products were applied as following:
UTTG: Yellow foam pad
WETS: Included tri-color foam applicator (grey side)
DPGTG: Cobra Tire Dressing Applicator Pad

Application Impressions: DPGTG was applied using a nickel sized amount on the cobra applicator pad.

Normally I would buff the surface with a leather brush, but in the interest of keeping the application

similar, it was not buffed (the brush helps to even out application inside the raised lettering). Both UTTG

and WETS were applied by putting 3-5 drops on the applicator pads and then gently applying to the surface of

the tire.

All of the products were user friendly to apply and did not require any special application methods. UTTG

and WETS required much less product than DPGTG.

Another great thread, Bill! Dp is my favorite tire dressing, so I am interested to see how it holds up. I am sure UTTG will blow it away but I preffer the inital look of DP!

Bill, those pictures are downright sick! As I was scrolling through them I was looking at the sides of the tape lines trying to figure out which was which before I read it and I was usually right. Also, really great to see them next to DP tire gel as well since it is one of my top shelf tire products. I learned something new there in the comparison with DP. Awesome work showing gloss levels by presenting the products with and without flash. Excellent work as always!!

Oh one other thing... Why do you taunt me? Im the MAN :dunno: :joking: :D

Awesom review, Bill!

The reviews so far are consistently showing that UTTG is slightly darker than WETS on everything, unless I'm mistaken?

Mark, that is correct. The UTTG was just a smidgen darker, and the DPGTG was darker than both of them. Unless you compare them side by side, it would be impossible to see the difference; they both look very very similar.

This is in line with the reviews I have been reading from CEE DOG and others. It is subtle, but there is a slight difference.

Thanks Jim, I completely agree. I think the real substance of this review is going to be in the durability test. I am anxious to see how long ETS and UTTG last.

once I read this I realized the thought never even occurred to me to do that. It's too late now since I've read the thread.

you guys are like sight sommeliers...
I bet nate could tell them apart by taste...

In order to do the heat test. I applied this to the plastics that cover the engine of my car and the plastics around my exhaust. I will be testing the durability over the next couple of months to see if it holds up. I love the looks that it leaves though. It makes the plastics much darker on my car. It makes the black plastics look better than new.

That's a good idea. I thought about wrapping a test strip of foil around the turbo pipe, but some research shows I'll be melting the aluminum. I also tried a few other methods with limited levels of success. I will put those in a writeup about the actual product coming some time this week.

Time for the two week update for the comparison between UTTG, Wolfgang ETS, and DP Gloss Tire Gel as applied on tires.

Original Thread here: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/product-reviews/38429-wolfgang-ets-subject-2-cared-car.html

Conditions since the last update - brutally hot, heat indexes in the 115+ range, with one solid day of torrential rain that gave the tires a good dousing for 30+ miles. Also one trip through the touch-less car wash was made to see how the OC would do.

So how is the test tire holding up?

Oh Yes!! Im the MAN This was a cool update Bill!!

Awesome idea of making the text white so people could make a guess first. I think I was off on 2 of them. Lots of fun! Thank you and looking forward to the washed update.

Bill - Excellent review and the pictures are incredible. :dblthumb2:

My personal favorite is DPTG and durability is not really an issue as I tend to clean and apply dressing almost everytime I clean the car. That said, if I can get one that holds up better and has close to or identical shine/sheen then I may jump. Your review will provide information to help with that decision.

It was fun trying to guess and I did OK especially after reading your comments that DPTG tends to be darker than the other two.

Thanks!!!

Thanks Corey! I thought it would be fun to try. It looks like it is not iPad friendly right now, will try to work on that.
