Wolfgang Tire and Wheel cleaner..DISAPPOINTED

I just tried using Wolfgang Tire and Wheel cleaner for the first time. It's safe to say I'm very disappointed in the results. There is still a ton of break dust on my tires and wheels.
I wet the tires, sprayed the tires and wheels with cleaner, let it sit for a couple of minutes and brushed them with a couple Mothers brushes. What did I do wrong? Do I need to use a stronger cleaner? Is there a good OTC cleaner I can buy at Autozone that isnt as expensive? Thanks guys!!

No wheel cleaner is magic.

If you had bad wheels and tires to begin with you may need to do extra applications.

Also, you're not supposed to do it in full sunlight.
 
Ive cleaned those rims numerous times and I will tell you that a brush alone is not good enough. I have a mitt and the Daytona speed brushes to fully clean them to get all the brake dust that builds up on them
 
Like other non-acidic wheel cleaners, Wolfgang Tire & Wheel Cleaner needs to be (thoroughly) agitated with a brush.

It's actually one of our more popular wheel cleaners because, as the name states, it cleans wheels and tires. Wolfgang Tire & Wheel Cleaner forgoes nasty, inexpensive ingredients and rather relies on a water-based formula that doesn't choke you with a harsh chemical smell.

Spray it on. Let it dwell for 2-3 minutes. Agitate it with a brush. Rinse off.

You can apply a wheel sealant, like Detailer's Wheel Glaze, to make future cleaning quick and easy.

I would also suggest picking up a Daytona Speed Master Wheel Brush Junior. For the amount of time and effort this brush saves, it's worth its weight in gold.

For the wheels and tires, Wolfgang Tire & Wheel Cleaner was the obvious choice. What I like about this product is that it will effectively clean brake dust and road grime off wheels, along with the tires. It's safe on all wheel finishes and actually has a pleasant scent. Whenever I'm working on a vehicle that isn't mine, and I'm not sure what product to use, I use the good stuff. The good stuff is represented by products that are trusted and also work well in their intended use.

For ph balanced cleaner I like Ecotouch.

For very dirty wheels I am a faithful OTC Eagle One user. That stuff just works for me.
 
Thanks guys!! I bought the wheels and tires in January but wasn't up to speed on all the AG products so I didn't apply a sealant. I just got Poor Boys sealant in the mail but haven't applied it yet. I did a quick wash while there was some cloud cover and backed her into the garage to dry. I used my leaf blower to dry them before the sun could dry any water. I guess I just went a little too fast!! I will slow down and take my time next time and see if I can get different results!! You learn as you go I guess!! Haha
 
I agree with the others on the positive comments about WG Tire and Wheel Cleaner. It is a great product and does what it is supposed to do given the directions are followed.

Agitation is key my friend.

Thanks for your reply Nick. I got a Daytona Jr when I ordered my cleaner. I just need to spend a little more time I guess. I don't have a good shaded spot to wash so I probably tend to rush!
 
I use armor all wheel cleaner from auto zone. Works great everytime. In a orange bittle.

OP the only spray and clean stuff that works well, that I have tried is the Megs all wheel or Eagle one....

Also nice wheels man.
 
Being the wheels are a painted finish I would use the brush for inbetween the spokes and a micro fiber mitt on the wheel faces to mitigate scratching. I had a 2008 F150 FX2 Super Crew, the brake dust that truck generated was murder to the 20" 6 spoke GT500 style gray painted wheels I had on it. I used ph balanced cleaners (Sonax or Brown Royale) always blew them dry with a leaf blower and kept them sealed with the PB wheel sealant you mentioned you have on the way.

Thanks Big Bull!! I love the wheels. Looking back I shod have applied a sealant before they were put on the truck!!

I'm going to do pads and rotors this summer. These pads put off brake dust like pollen!! Thanks for all the help. I will probably use the remaining Wolfgang and see if I can get better results. The directions day wet the wheel first. Could I get a better result if I didn't wet the wheel? Will the water dilute it some?
 
I have always used wheel cleaners straight up on a cold wheel. Actually its the first step before I wash the rest of the vehicle. My train of thought has always been that it would dilute the cleaner if the wheels was wet. It's not like they are water activated like Amazing Roll Off supposedly is.
 
i went thru a bottle of their regular wheel & tire cleaner. agree. for the price of it, it was nothing special. at all.

meguiars wheel & tire cleaner
mothers wheel & tire cleaner
eagle one wheel & tire cleaner

blew wolfgang away.....

I think it's great that it can clean tires, too. Most wheel cleaners are only effective for wheels.

Is it pH balanced or alkaline? I'm aware some alkaline cleaners can be safe on every wheel type.
