Working on a logo

Two further revisions.
I have been working on these over the last few days.

Are they better/worse?

I like the revisions from what they originally were... Personally neither are my cup of tea but hey it isn't my logo... If I were to choose out of the two I would go for the second one but in that one it doesn't incorporate the medical symbol so the name kinda looses out...

A tag line that would work is "The prescription (Rx) for your car" or "We do house calls"

Keep up the hard work and go for what you want...

I designed my own logo (see my avatar) and decided to keep it as simple as possible.

I spent countless hours trying to come up with something nice and what I thought would work. Then when it came down to it the simplest design came out best. It looked clean when printed and when it came to getting shirts made up and my window decal done for my car it was easy for the print shops.

Your font colors are going to not work when put on a shirt or something like that. You also pay by the color, the more colors you have the more expensive it gets.

I'd change your font color to be a solid color. And mess with the shield some. I like the medical reference in it, so if I were you I'd try to at least keep the wings portion. Maybe the wings and the car below it?

Just trying to give you some ideas. I ran into issues with my logo when I had my polos done. The front left breast print area can only be 3.5 inches long. When you compressed my logo down to that size you couldn't read it with the LLC portion. So I had them remove it to make it look good.

Just a few things I've run into that you may end up running into as well.

Sorry I didn't respond quickly, for some reason I was not getting updates to this thread.

There are logos from a lot of big name companies on there.

Something you can see in them is that they are all VERY simple. They don't cram much information into them. In fact, some of the best ones (apple) are so minimal there there is no text whatsoever.

Now, designing a logo for a small company is different than designing a corporate logo because you are NOT a household name. This means that you may need to include a business name.

Personally, I think SeaJay has a fantastic logo. If I didn't know any better I might think that he had it designed professionally.

If I have some free time I might sketch up a few ideas for you and post em up.

Tbank you for the advice.
Matthew: It would be greatly appreciated if you could sketch up a few ideas for me.

There are a couple things about this logo I'd like to comment on. This is coming from someone who has also done graphic design, so take the feedback for what it is worth.

It looks like you have a working knowledge of photoshop, but what you have done is just google a couple different images and blow them up and mash them together. The resolution is terrible and it is always going to look like you just stacked a bunch of images on top of each other. If this is the look you are going for, then I would recreate it instead of just using low res blown up images of a badge with a caduceus and adding your own touches.

The lines on the snakes are not spaced evenly. That also makes it look hastily put together. If you are going to stick with that theme, which I like because it ties the logo back to cars somewhat, then they should at least be spaced and the same size.

The lens flare is very 2003. I wouldn't include it on a logo personally, but that's just me.

The background texture on the text is kind of distracting and doesn't make sense in the overall design. I would stick with a solid color for that and see how it looks.

There are many "detail doctors" and other medically related detail names out there. It is an appropriate combination of professions. I've always liked the comparison to dentistry, personally. We polish and shine and occasionally fill cavities. We chew owners out for not brushing and flossing like they should and schedule another appointment in six months. :) However, I am a strong believer that the logo should make it easy to determine what exactly the business does. The text on your logo does that, but I'm not sure the graphic. I would think about how to really make it stand out as an automotive related image. The caduceus is overwhelmingly medical and it will not stand out in their memory as a detailing company logo.

My other piece of advice is to consider all of the places this graphic will be used. Everything from being tiny on your business card to being embroidered on a shirt or cut out of solid color vinyl and stuck to your window. You've built something that will look flashy on your website, but how is it going to look on a sticker? Things like the outer glow, embossing, lens flare, and other photoshop enhancements won't necessarily work or even show up when you use this graphic in other locations. Just something to think about...

I think you are on to a good start. Find some higher resolution graphics to borrow or recreate them and that will help a lot.

It's tough doing the logo for your own business, isn't it? :) I've never had a problem doing designs for other people, but when it comes to my own stuff, I always struggle with it. Mine came down to a hastily drawn swoosh which sort of resembles a car over my business name. I just couldn't come up with anything else. lol It works though and I've never had a problem putting it on a sticker, shirt, or business card, so that is what mattered to me at the time.

Another revision.
This time the original is in 600 dpi and 16" wide.

Better design?
It is in black and gold only.
I do not know why the caduceus saved the way it did but the original is clear and not pixelated like it is in this lower res save.

Would today's work be a step towards the better or the worse?
I still do not know why the image is appearing to suffer from pixelation when being saved as a gif.
