I do woodworking and DIY as a hobby and am wanting to buy a worm drive saw. My tech ed teach from high school liked his skil saw which is a common purchase but ive heard the quality went down. If anyone owns one here which one did you buy?

If you are talking about the hand-held saws that are referred to as "skil-saws":

I would highly recommend looking into Festool. Amazing saws with Incra-like depth adjustment, and the portable guides are a God-send in field work, or your shop.

im looking more into the 100 to 200 dollar range. Festool has great stuff but very expensive

Been a carpenter for 28 years, believe it or not the Rigid brand is my favorite. Smooth, torque and light, the biggest downside is the table. If you drop it chances are it'll bend.
The Skil Mag 77lt is a very good saw also, Makita 5377MG is also very good.

have heard the same about the ridgid. Heard the makita does have low maintenance. Teacher has two mag 77s which have been running for 20 years with cord replacements. You hear anything about the milwaukee?

I have an older "Millwater" (Milwaukee). Works good, but it weighs more than Volkswagon.

luckily I have a membership for a place near me to borrow some festool tools and they sell them downstairs. I was using the tool and said it might be good to have one around. Meanwhile the sander was 400 dollars. I think though they are worth it

I have owned a Bosch for many years and has served me well. I am not a pro so it does not get daily use but it still has been used extensively for a DIYer. At the time of my purchase I was also considering the Skil saw as well. Between the two, I was going to purchase an excellent saw either way and so will you with the recommendations listed in this thread.

their arm miter saw is great to me but dont know about their worm drive

Never used a Bosch rotory, But I have had a Bosch jig saw (barrel grip) for about 21 years now. It sees some serious use. And other than 2 shoe swaps and and a few cord replacements, it has actually been the most durable power tool I have ever owned.

Do you need the power? There are many great direct drive models out there.

We have Milwaukee saws but I just don't like them, just seem to rev slow and very hard to rip straight. IMHO

Bosch jig saws are the toughest, smoothest and most reliable.
