Wrist Tunnell Syndrome

I have been struggling with elbow tendinitis for the past year. A PT recommended wearing wrist braces at night while I sleep. They help a lot to minimize the pain.

I picked them up in a local drug store in the ace bandage section.

The Futuro night wrist brace. For Carpal Tunnel and tendinitis.

I hear that drinking horse piss helps. Read that somewhere. :poke:

Have you tried maybe some wrist supports while your detailing? Not sure if that would help or not. :dblthumb2:

I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned it, but I would try getting an arm massage from a medically experienced therapist. For me, this works incredibly well when my arm and wrist get tight from working with CAD all day and night.

I have it terrible as for me, that person is my wife. ;)

Flash, I have got it the last 2 summers detailing. I wear wrist supports at night as well as during detailing. Yes, it feels strange holding the Dyna differently than you're used to, but it's worth it. Stretching by grabbing your fingers of your hand and bending them backwards (slowly) and holding them for 30 secs is good. Repeat a few times. Also, rotate your fist around 360° also is a good stretch. I alternate the 2 for a few sets. Here I am modeling the supports:

If I have to get carpel tunnel syndrome I would sooner get it detailing.

No matter how you get it, it blows bigtime

PM me your email, I just got the info from my HR...

Are you talkin to me?

I've been fighting with carpal tunnel for a long time. I'm not willing to get the surgery so I've learned to control it.

1.) get a good wrist brace that immobilizes your wrist and thumb. You will want to wear this all night every night. A toss and turn a bunch and my wrist gets contorted all over the place. Wearing a wrist brace a night helped me tremendously.
2.) Get a prescription for naproxin, it's the same drug in aleve just a higher dosage. It's a safe anti-inflammatory and its very cheap ($10/month for me).
3.) By some bio-freeze, its a good topical pain killing ointment it really helps me.
4.) Be aware of what you are doing with your wrist, try to avoid holding in unnatural ways for very long. I understand its impossible to avoid completely, but just try to keep it to a minimum.

If you have to use a machine that produces alot of vibration, try to take breaks every 15min.

If all that doesn't help, skip your regular doctor and go straight to an orthopedic specialist. When my wrist was the worst, and I thought for sure I would need surgery, he gave a steroid shot and after 2 days the swelling was down and the pain was gone. He referred me a physical therapist who helped me develop the prevention routine above.

Wow, very usefull info here. I have a friend who is a world renouned orthepedic surgeon. It may be time to ask a favor of him

Would you rather have sore wrist or blind the rest of your life from looking at a computer screen?

Uhh, if given the choice, I'll take Buffer Tunnell Syndrome. Maybe I should quit being a crybaby and just suck it up

Desk job probably wouldn't solve the carpel tunnel issue. I know a lot of people that get it from typing all day. Sounds like a joke I know but it is possible!

Have you tried stretching your wrists along with ice/heat? May help relieve some of the pain.

Yea, I find myself constantly moving my wrist back-n-forth. My wife tells me to stop. Sounds like a bowl of rice crispies

I have the same problem plus elbow tendinitis in the same arm. what i do that helps:

Wrist brace, soaking wrist and arm for 1 hour every other day in warm water mixed well with Epsom salt(< works like a charm and idk why), wrist carpel tunnel exercises! (not the one you do to chop morning wood either! :p)

and the #1 best thing to do, Ultrasound therapy. If you have a good ultrasound machine you will never complain about pain EvaRRR! you might want to buy a $400 one, but here is one i found on amazon for under 2 bills > Amazon.com: Ultrasonic Massager - HS3006 -- Pure Ultrasound Therapy: Portable, Affordable & FDA Approved: Health & Personal Care
Also, look up the product BIoFreeze. You apply the BIOFreeze before you buff and you should have no pain. i use this as well its good stuff. its like icyhot times 5. hope this helps and feel better.

That ultra sound machine sounds neat. Frank, can I borrow around $385. I can cover the rest

I'm surprised no one in here has mentioned cortisone shots.... those seem to work wonders for joint-area issues like carpal tunnel.

I don't like needles. I would rather get punched in the face, then get stuck by a needle

Careful what you wish for guys, I have a desk job and it's not that great. I'm mean yeah, sitting in your butt all day CAN be nice-especially when its 100 outside or -20.

BUT, and a BIG "But - all of that sitting makes you soft. Your back aches and your knees get screwed up from all of the sitting. I thought when I was younger I would have a to. Of energy because of sitting all day-not the case at all. When I get home, my mind is so tired of thinking about "numbers" all I want to do is do something mindless. Like watch TV.

Most of the time when I daughter goes to sleep around 9:00-10:00, I will go out in the garage and buff on a hood I have. It's my medication and nightly sleep aid.

Now that spring is here, I sit at my desk and stare out of the window and day dream of detailing. I get the spring "bug" horribly every year haha!

One of these days my balls will drop and I will take the plunge of making detailing my career.

BTW, what does carpal tunnel feel like? Sometimes I think I may have it from operating the "space puck" at work.

I think you've misunderstood me. When I say I wanna desk job, I'm talkin about a job like Dwayne has. You know, I wanna just ride around Geek HQ on Max's Sedgeway telling other ppl what to do all day

Oh yea. Buffer Tunnell Syndrome feels like someone has hit you in the arms, hand and wrist with a sledgehammer. Sharp pains shoot from my forearms all the way through to my hands along with a tingling sensation through my fingers. Doesn't this sound super fun

I had to have Carpal Tunnel surgery when I was 17. The numbness in my fingers and the painful tingling "burning" and the lack of strength was unbearable. I'm in my late 30's now and can honestly say it was the best decision my Mom made for me. I'm not saying that therapy, stretching, and exercises won't work or even help. I'm just saying for me it was the best course of action. CTS is terrible to live with but, a small incision, same day surgery and some OT/PT is well worth it. That's my 2 cents.

This sounds promising. I've heard so many surgery nightmare stories, I'm just sure mine wouldn't turn out right

Thasnks again for everyones suggestions. I've picked up some tips I haven't considered before :thankyousign:

Hmm, I'll take a different approach - this sounds like the root cause is further "up stream" and not the wrist.

This sounds like a shoulder or spine problem - I'm thinking this because I have had very similar problems, re: pain below the elbow, numbness and tingling of the fingers.

In my case I have two problems: 1) some arthritis in my shoulder and 2) nerve pressure in the upper spine.

I control my arthritis with two medicines, a quinine derivative and naproxin sodium (Aleve); I also visit a very good chiropractor who straightens my spine (about once a year) and this gives immediate relief from the nerve pressure situation.

GEWB

Flash, look into the one i posted in that link from amazon. it is still kinda pricey, but it will pay for itself if it helps you detail like your in the GLORY DAYS again!:buffing: and look up the BioFreeze stuff i told u about too! this and ultra sound is how i deal with having carpel tunnel and tendinitis in the same arm.

Just to follow up on what some said above. First I would make sure that you not aggravating the problem at your keyboard. There are ergonomic keyboards and devices/pads to help prevent carpal.

Also a pinched nerve in the neck (from arthritis) can cause some of the symptoms you are experiencing. My chiropractor seems to be able alleviate my symptoms when they occur periodically. However the problem was initially diagnosed by a neurologist.

Sitting in an office is not all it's cracked up to be. Been in an office setting for a year now, do detailing on weekends. I feel lethargic... somehow have developed a small 1 cm size cist on my right hand top side on a tendon (no pain though, luckily).

I have mild pain in my hands now and then and I'm 24. I need to start stretching or going back to detailing. My Knees and back are soooo sore all the time now, doesn't matter how I sit or adjust my posture, just doesn't do it for me. I'd much rather be outside in the sun, as opposed to sitting in an office cold-calling and working with people.
:work: or :autowash: Notice how in picture 2 on the right, he is smiling!
God I wish I could just take out a loan and get started doing my own gig soon, got everything priced, sourced, and website thrown together (just need to update) and I'll be good to go. I already can make all the advertising myself and with a friend. :xyxthumbs:

Just saw this post up again.

How are your wrists doing there Flash???

I'm surprised no one in here has mentioned cortisone shots.... those seem to work wonders for joint-area issues like carpal tunnel.

I had a steroid shot before and it worked like magic! But you have to be careful too in having these shots as it has some side effects that come with it like weakening the tendons around the area of the shot overtime with multiple shots. I was just lucky that it just took a shot and the pain was gone and has not come back since. But I agree with you that if all else fails this would be the way to go.

Cortisone is good for a short time , not recommended for extended periods of time it has some nasty side effects !

Laser Photo Therapy works with the body's own healing system and there are no side effects except you won't have pain any more ! But it does need to be maintained to get the full benefits
over time ( cumulative effect !)

Laser Photo Therapy? Is that the deal where they shine a laser pointer (for lack of better term) at the affected area and it's supposed to have a 'healing' effect?

Yes , Charlie, that's the one but it's not a pointer and it does have a healing effect !
I have been using it for years and it's been beneficial to me :dblthumb2:

The one that my doctor uses is Infra Red Laser you can't see the Laser Beam but it does work!
It works at 780nm ( Nano Meters ) which at this frequency it has a healing effect !

Sounds like the equipment you're describing is different than what my doctor once tried using on me -- what he had literally did look like just a run of the mill laser pointer and it didn't do squat.

For all I know he was just scamming me to get my insurance to pay out

I would like to thank you all for your suggestions. I really wasn't expecting this kinda of response. Its very touching to know you took the time out of your busy schedules to help me

I have good news and bad...lets get the bad overwith first, so we can finish on a good note...

Bad News...

I have self diagnost myself with a mild case of Arthitis. I'm pretty sure this is whats happening because the more I check myself, the more I notice its more then just my wrists that hurt. Its my knees, ankles, fingers and brain too

Good News...

Out of all the suggestions, I decided to try the least aggresive method first. I bought a bottle of Motrin and have been popping one each morning. So far, I feel pretty damn good to be honest with you. I've also tryed to stay away from the polisher whenever I can, but sometimes its just gotta happen

Anyway, I'm still sucking in air, and rattling the keyboard, so thats a good thing ( unless you hate me)

Thank you again everyone

Flash

PS...I have another medical condition I will be seeking your guidance on very soon. This ones a humdinger of a deal
