Wtf

My father and brother are saying i am a rip off compaired to auto spa,.....

Your family sounds super supportive of your new endeavor

Forget wat they say and don't focus on their negativity or you will fail. There's a good enough chance you will fail anyway. This is a very tough business to make it in

LOL!!!

My father and brother are saying i am a rip off compaired to auto spa,....and i will never get any bizznas. How can i give the same $40 job to that cheap customer that wont pay for good work??? They think i have lost $90 to the $40 megs(down the street) wax down the street. That customer just don't know or care about the look . its what ever's cheaper.

There using Express wax. That don't last one month.

What do your father and brother do for a living?

You might consider looking at the work the guys down the street do. Do YOU feel you can provide a better service? You need to be able to market your abilities to the right people. It's clear that the people calling you now aren't willing to pay for quality work. There are far more of these people than there are those who will. Take the advice you're getting and start marketing to people with higher standards.

Don't listen to your family. Everyone is right there is a reason they only charge $40 for their service cause its sub par more then likely.

You should raise your prices and go for higher end customers. To the people that tell you oh thats too much joe blow does it for $2 dollars tell them the reasons joe blow does it for 2 dollars.

My father and brother have a gas station and two large self service car washes. I do all my detailing @the car wash, in one of the bays. I do great work according to the customers I have had.

Sounds like a great set - up. Put up some signage and hang around during business hours

Tell ur father ur only making $40 to keep the rent cheap :)

I now offer a $40 production wax.

Auto wash
Express wax
Vac

Its exactly what auto spa do.

Keep doing the production wax, your at a car was and that's what's customary, like I told ou earlier there is money to be made there as coin op clients are not hardcore afficiandos and have never had a premium detail done- this is not an excuse to be sloppy tho.
When my production mgr writes people up when the come in he ask are you interested in our express services or detail services and tells about he differences in products procedures and time constrainsts for both ... Again your setting up at a car wash, go for the volume here and do good work and upsell AiO or correction mobile jobs at their place.

I am just getting my detailing biz. Going. Thanks to all Who responded to help me.

This is all part of learning how to grow your business. When I first got my business...it was taken over by me. So there was already a small clientele and a few accounts. This situation reminds me a LOT of how I felt in the beginning.

I felt the previous owners prices were high...simply because people were telling me they were high. As time went on, I realized really quick that it's in fact not my prices...but just the clientele that they had. They had a cheap clientele.

Now, I've upped my prices big time. I have packages that go for $500-$800. Do I do a ton of them...no, of course not. But, I do them. Most of my business is on daily drivers and they typically pay $165-$215 for a 1-step exterior, and full interior.

Wash & Wax's for me are $79-$99. And that only includes a wash, and literally wax on the paint. That's it. Are there cheaper places around me...absolutely! Do I care, definitely not. There's probably about 5 places on the very same street as me...they all charge less, but they do less work. Explain that!

It just comes with time. Forget the Wash & Wax customers. Get the full details. I probably do 5 wash & wax jobs every few months...maybe. That would be a high estimate. But I do about 4-6 full details a day. Each vehicle is at least $165, and up to $315 on the average.

Also keep in mind...that if people know you're just starting out, they will take advantage of that. They can see your desperate. Be confident! Sell yourself as well as your service. People will come to you because they like you. Just get through these cheap jobs, and more customers will follow. Don't budge on price! In fact...if they think your Wash & Wax is too expensive, then enlighten them on the higher up packages that are much more worth the money!

Now I ofer the 40 dollar wax and everyone want crazy resto jobs. Funny !

You'll find out real quick that the Wash & Wax services, or any low end service for that matter is pretty much useless. You won't do many of them.

Sounds like my wife. I'm just starting out too and recently priced a maroon Tahoe at $120 for full detail and wax. This is about right for my area, and maybe actually a little higher than the couple of guys that are getting the most business around here (small town, surrounded by more small towns) She said "That's too much. I wouldn't pay that if I had a Tahoe" Well, it's a good thing she's not the customer.
Don't listen to any negativity. I don't. And I don't work for nothing, either.
I have a full-time job M-F and another job Sunday mornings until 2pm. My goal, is to be able to quit the full-time job and work for myself full-time. Though I'll probably keep the Sunday job, because it's at a radio station, and sort of badass.. :righton:
