WTH is up with tire shops as of late?

UPDATE: Took it up this morning in a downpour of course. Met the manager and we pulled it inside. I took some ww and a towel with me. Under his flashlight, sure enough the scratches on all 4 wheels were there as i pointed them out. OK This is what we will do. We have contact with a company that refinishes wheels and does them on site here. I will call them and set up a appointment for you and provide a rental also for that day. That sounds good to me. Fair enough. They still cant figure how it happened. So in my book i think thats fair.

Sounds fair to me :dblthumb2:

Their are so many machines out there. The thing to do is ask the shop before they do the work and that you expect them to look like they did before the work was done.

Sounds fair, but make sure they are powder coating them - and not spray painting them. The spray paint finish type of refinishing is cheap and not durable.

On site is guaranteed to be sprayed. Probably not going to have someone dismount, blast, powder coat, and remount

He said he was mad about and apoloigzed. Blank stare on my face for sure. Then he tells me i will try to get a hold of him monday OR look into a set of reconditioned wheels for you. I did not want to freak the **** out, so i kept my cool. I have know george, the manager for years. I dont want to call BS on this or call him a out right liar, but were you hoping i would go away? Guess i will see if this has any closure? If not i will not hesitate to call corprate and explain the whole ordeal to them. ALL THIS CRAP FROM A SIMPLE TIRE CHANGE. No you did not trash them, but admited after looking at them they were indeed scuffed/scratched from the tire change. Guess i would have had better luck if i went to monroe or another local place.

Ugh.... That's messed up. They had the truck all day and the guy never showed? Why didn't they call you and five you a heads up?
LAME.

Customer service just sucks anymore.

I'd be persistent and make them finish it.

Mobile still involves dismounting and mounting the tire from the wheel.

wow, that sucks. before I started detailing, I did tires right out of high school, and admittedly, I thought I was doing it right, and all we had were the "steel wheel" machines. I didn't know there was anything else, and I never looked close enough to see if I ever did any damage. I never had anyone come back complaining though. Who knows how much damage I did in that year.

This ends this morning. I done with you and your BS. Going to call shortly and give them a few options that will be done or taken care of today, or i will do what i have to do by calling corprate and looking into disputing the charge on the cc card.

The dude travels with a mobile tire mounting and balancing machine?

Not when they did mine years ago.... They had all the wheels "painted" in like an hour and 10 mins.

You can imagine how that worked out.

I guess there are sure different ways to do it.

Made the call and made myself clear. He said if i cant contact him today, i will be ordering you wheels by the end of the day. ALRIGHT. Told him i am done with this today!

The tires come off with the guy my dealership uses. If they get rebalanced I couldn't tell you, but there was never one complaint about a vibration due to them being unbalanced. Maybe he marks where the tire was on the wheel. I can't imagine a respray throwing off the weight.

Just an FYI. There are 2 common types of tire machines. On the older, cheaper type - the tire lever drags along the side of the rim. This is what shops commonly call a "steel wheel machine" - although the machine is not sold as such.

Then there is the newer type, where there is a metal arm that looks like a duck bill. The tire lever goes over that - instead of contacting the wheel. This is commonly called a "mag machine" or "aluminum wheel machine" - although it's safe for any wheel.

Although it's possible to use the later machine to scratch a wheel, if used correctly - nothing actually makes contact with the face of the wheel. The other machine must contact the edge of the wheel by design - as its from the time of steel wheels and hubcaps.

If you see a steel wheel machine - run.

Exactly!

I've purchased three different sets of wheels with tires mounted and shipped through UPS by Tirerack over the past ten years including the wheels on my GC and their has never been a scratch on them when they arrived on my front door step. And these Enkeis on my GC, I dropped a tire pressure gauge 5-6 inches and put a small ding on the wheel face, so they are pretty easily dinged.

My best advice is like when I drop my Harley off for service, do a walk around of your vehicle when going to the dealership, tire service etc. Have them note on the service order any dings scratches etc. Just like when renting a car. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

This the actual Firestone shop at galleria?

UPDATE: Did a follow up call this morning. "I ordered them tuesday like i told you i would. I will call you when they are in". End of call. I thought you can drop your attiude at the door bud. I will make it a point to check over the wheels before they mount them.

They don't get the right to give you tide at this point.
I'd bug the crap outta them.

All this talk of tire changes must have got my tire thinking it's time to go. Hopefully they don't mess my wheels up when I get the new one's in.

JESUS!!!
That tire wasn't *thinking* it was time to go.... that tire (looks like it was low on pressure) was GONE a long time ago.

Please tell me that was on the rear.
Oh.... and how much negative camber are you running on that puppy?
Dropped/lowered perhaps?

Hope ya' didn't mess up any body work, or even worse.... end up stranded. :dunno:
