Your favorite "smelling" leather cleaner?

I dunno I’m really stubborn when it comes to believing in bad batches. I think there’s more of a chance of a vendor selling old stock.

Whatever the case it’d be a shame since you’re so far away the least you deserve is a proper fresh example of a product.

Yeah, me too. Leaning towards old stock.

It's annoying because I don't really have anyone to give away to and it's pretty big and bulky to ship. As it stands, I will punt it to make room for something I rather using more.

It’s terrible. Plus it’s a lotion just to make you feel even more guilty with parting ways with it compared to a liquid.

My own gallon which I’m down to maybe 16oz. left is starting to get to the point where it’s several yrs. old.

I probably need to verify this, but the cleaning ability would be minimal at best with D180, I guess that's where D181 comes in.

When I'm cleaning leather, I want something I can use with a soft brush, agitate and then wipe clean. D180 can't do that due to the lotion consistency.

I actually use a few different leather cleaners. The one above is from a brand not sold outside of Australia/New Zealand. It was designed for the sort "leather" in cars today, as in a mixture of coated leather surfaces and vinyl. This is a product I will use on customer cars as it cleans and then protects in one step. That's one of the reasons why I doubt using a lotion type leather conditioner actually has any benefit on these surfaces, all it does is make the seats greasy. I guess the very dramatic before and after when using D180 is what makes it popular with detailers, as in it's more obvious the seats have been detailed in the customers eyes.

These seats are how I like "clean" leather. Soft, matte and smooth to touch. No oiliness, fake smells or slippery surfaces.

Yeah I see using D180 almost solely as a "conditioner" or LSP for leather surfaces, or for general maintenance of leather surfaces that don't need much more than a quick vacuum to clean. For cleaning, I'm still a huge fan of P&S Xpress on basically every hard surface. I also had an impulse buy and bought some McKee's 70/30 leather cleaner from A***** to test. It's actually pretty nice stuff to use, but I'm not a fan of their pricing scheme (aka way too much). It does foam when brushed, cleans well and leaves behind a small amount of conditioning/softening. It also has a fake leather smell that I'm not the biggest fan of lol but this one isn't as offensive to my nose as some others.

I wish I would’ve taken a pic of my white microfiber applicator after using it. There’s definitely enough cleaning to show up on the applicator, is it alot? I wouldn’t go as far as to call it a strong cleaner, but it does have some cleaning ability. It’s more of a wipe on wipe off not an agitate with a brush type cleaner.

I must have got a bad or old batch of D180 it seems.

My use of D180 left the leather oily and greasy. The smell was not offensive but just not to my taste, like a simulated leather smell.

I used it on this Landcruiser with grey leather, which looks ok but was slippery to sit on. I found it was worse when I applied it to black Subaru leather though. I tried it again on a Ranger and still hated it. I have the better part of a gallon taking up space in my cabinet.

Again, perhaps I got a dud?

It does have this appearance. I still have a bottle of it and shelved it. It also tended to attract more dirt.

You would enjoy some colourlock products.

Do some interior products really attract more dust than others? Lets try and find out...

Hey guys, I’ve decided to do this test in hopes of trying to find out if it’s really true that certain products such as dressings and conditioners really do attract more dust than others.. I’ve always been curious about this topic so lets get right into it and maybe this can help offer some actual proof 1 way or the other.

1st I needed a good surface to test on, somewhere that can provide fair and even coverage and also remain untouched throughout the test. This is the top shelf of my cabinet.

It collects dust.

I cleaned it with APC. Layed down some tape. These are the products I’ll be testing.

Surface completely clean and ready for applications. The back area behind the horizontal tape line shall remain completely untouched and bare throughout the test.

This is immediately after every product has been applied. They were all applied using different applicators in order to prevent any cross contamination. Each product was applied twice to ensure good even coverage.

I hope you guys appreciate this, as I’ve got to find a place to put all this stuff now. Lol.

The only 1 with the possibility of interfering with the test panel and ruining the experiment is my cat, because I’m sure she’d like to use the empty shelf to sleep in... Fortunately I’ve made it cat proof using double sided tape.lol.

I plan on removing the horizontal tape line later tonight when I get home as long as it comes off without disturbing the other tape lines.. And now we wait and see what happens. The dust shall come and reveal the truth.

Thanks for reading.

But you forgot Product X, Y, and Z Eldo. :) Looking forward to the results even if it isn’t exactly on vinyl/leather. Thanks.

Actually just dove into the deep end with Colour Lock, impressive products. These products are only mildly scented and leave little to no aroma in the cabin afterwards.

I have also been using the NV leather products for a while too, very similar in concept to the Colour Lock items (foaming cleaner & wipe on protector.)

It doesn’t attract dirt/dust.

Attracting dirt/dust is probably the wrong word choice here. The oilier finish left from a product like D180 is more likely to accumulate dirt/dust as it has more of a chance of sticking or being encapsulated in the residue left behind.

I’m not sure what the issue may have been with the bottle you received, but D180 dries to the touch shorty after it’s been applied and is not oily.

Of the 6 products I tested none of them left an oily surface, if they had they would’ve stuck out and attracted more dust than the others after 7 weeks.

Leather Honey is a good cleaner and the conditioner actually softens. It is sticky so it requires a wipe down after allowing it to soak in a bit. Autogeek might want to consider adding the product line.

Just got the cleaner for my Semi Aniline seats. Good review and a good price for concentrate.

Got Leather Master leather vital to soften up and gonna use PBL L&V coating to protect.

I use Zymol leather cleaner and conditioner; the version with both in one pack. Both smell great and leave a matte finish. For some reason the individual bottles versions have a different smell.
