This 2010 370z had been put off from earlier in the summer and the owner was anxious to get it done. He had brought it by to show me and to point out some of the many chips it had. He brought the touch up paint with him as instructed. Here it is as it arrived:

The first up was the wheels. He waited around for his taxi so he got to see me in action cleaning a few of his wheels. The barrels were done with Tarminator followed by Zep Citrus and Megs Hyper Wash. The faces were cleaned with ZC followed by Megs HW and a demoted wash mitt. The tires were cleaned with Zep 505 and lastly the wells with LA Totally Awesome.

As a bonus to the customer, I shot Hydro into the barrels to give them a bit of protection since I wasn't going to be pulling them.

Next it got washed with Megs HW followed by a decontamination wash using IronX paste. It was brought inside and clayed using the CarPro Clay towel.

Now it was time to see what it was really like and to locate all the chips:

Now, I think you'll agree with me: that's a LOT of chips!

This was booked for a 2 stage correction to make it as nice as possible and with the addition of CQF. The first stage was my Tuf Buff black wool + M100 using Rupes 21 followed by M205 + yellow Megs finishing pad + 3401. For kicks, I had tried HD Adapt with the black wool for the first stage, but it did not bring out the clarity of the flake like the M100 did.

The paint and wheels were double coated with CQF and then cured with an IR light:

The tires were shot with Opti Bond at 100% using my air gun. The front trim was coated with DLux. Here are some inside shots of it all done (at night):

And, finally, I got a beautiful, clear, sunny day to show off the gorgeous metallic of this cool plum colour:

Thanks for looking! Comments welcomed.

What touch up paint did you use and did you have to do any sanding to make it match the rest of the paint? Car turned out great by the way!

Man, that flake was popping. Nice work! Tires looked very good. Intrigued by you using compressed air and a gun to shoot/apply it. Nice.

So is the owner a plumber or is that just a reference to the color of the car? lol. Came out really awesome either way!

Nice work once again Richy! :xyxthumbs:

:iagree: tell us more about the rock chip repair. :)

Another top job on the Z mate , your work on the wheel s crazy . A nice how to .

What I always enjoy is the consistency of your work, staying with a system that always puts out great work.

Thank you! I have my customers attend a paint supply house locally and obtain a bottle of touch up paint. The guy I send them to is very good at matching paint. After the compound and polish stage, I blob some onto a plastic lid and then dip a pointy toothpick into the paint and then dab it into the centre of the chip. My goal is to fill the bottom of the chip and not to have a blob of paint sitting on top of the surrounding surface. No sanding is done unless I'm filling a deep scratch (and there is sufficient paint thickness to do so).

Thanks a lot! Here is a write up I did a while back to show the procedure:

Thanks! No, it was just my attempt at being clever with the colour.

Thanks a lot Davey! See above for explanation. Let me know if anything is unclear.

Nice work Richy. I like the color.
Thanks Al..me too! Looks very different depending on the lighting.

Beautiful work Richy. Nothing like a properly detailed Z car :dblthumb2:

Thanks kindly. Wheels are very important to me so I always take the time to make them pristine. I forgot to mention that I blew them off with the Master Blaster after bringing it inside. That helps keep them nice before coating them.

Thanks Bruce. It's not that I don't try new things as I do. I mentioned that I had tried the Adapt with the TB wool, but it did not do as good of a job as the M100. But, you're right, that combo of 100/205 will conquer most jobs.
