Az Detail - Black C7 Stingray Save - Pigtails and Holograms

had to be $1500...nice work....mine came perfect except some mild orange peel. This is a menzerna/blackfire job:

The damage on that car was way unacceptable. This forum really does something to your eye for paint.

Excellent job and write up! I sure hope the owner notifies the dealer. I would be raising holy hell if it was mine after paying that much for a car. (I was pissed about a few minor scratches on my new Honda Civic and let them know it.)

Same here, hope they pay up. We have the owner of a new 370Z complaining to the dealer trying to get them to pay up for some of the correction that needs to be done. BRAND NEW...and swirled to holy hell...

Love it, Will. I would've never took delivery of that thing with it looking that way... He soule had the dealer pay for the correction!

Finest ftw!

-Beach

Finest FTW! With it apparently being glazed to hell in the beginning, the owner didn't know. He even said it was bright and sunny when he took the car, but only noticed everything after a wash :-\...go figure.

 Absolutely fantastic job! A great write up as well with superb documentation! That C7 deserved the job that your gave it!

Sick write up. That's how the customer should receive the car from the factory but what fun would that be lol

Awesome awesome work!

Thank you all for the compliments. Was definitely a fun detail and a great turn around :)

I always love seeing your work. Such great turn arounds.

Always glad to hear it :). Thanks as always for checking everything out...it's fun posting for others who enjoy the read and the pictures...and the owner liked seeing it too lol

Super good work there! Great write up as well. Love seeing the difference after a full correction! :xyxthumbs:

I still can't believe the condition the dealership left that C7 in.

Scary right? But not necessarily new for a new car to look like that :-\

Wow that's an awesome picture display, that thing was shockingly messed up considering its a newer car, great job

Thanks so much!

Why are they leaving the factory like that?

From what i understand, they changed the painting system for the C7's...so after being sprayed they will de-nib the paint (zip out dirt particles in the paint with d.a sander, hit with wool real quick...keep it moving) which would explain the random pigtail patches all over the car. Why they would hit the WHOLE CAR with a rotary, i have NO clue...but it was apparent that either they did, or the dealer did.

I am 99% certain that the sanding is from the factory though.

What's new, amazing works as usual. How is the paint (soft/hard). I have 2 cars coming up. Great job guys.

I'd say 7/10 as opposed to the 9/10 of the C6. Definitely a bit softer. If you have black coming up, have the LED ready to check for marring after final polish. Roof and rear clip seemed to be a BIT more prone to marring (im assuming they are different material than the rest of the body and maybe thats why??)

Beautiful ! :) And you are very close with you assessment of the price:xyxthumbs:

Yeah its a plague...every car thats hit by sun when im driving...im inspecting lol. I'm doomed...i even notice holograms on the huge floors in stores like walmart....yeah, i have issues.

Awesome! I always look forward to seeing your posts and I have yet to be dissapointed!

I love the new vette and this thread just makes me love it even more! My god that machine was amazing when you finished with it and brought out what it's truly supposed to look like.

That paint was messed up! Imagine how many other cars that dealer sells to customers looking like that :( Great post and write-up. I am already looking forward to your next post!

Hi Wills...

Instead of going into "detail" of how big of a fan I am of Dani and yourself...
...not only for you guys' possession/knowledge of fantastic paint correction skills...
But also for being the good people that you are:

:dblthumb2: and :dblthumb2: lol. It definitely is an attention grabber...the owner had the choice exhaust on it too...so when he put it into sport mode...yeah well...everyone knows when you start it up thats for sure. Personally i think it has to be faster now that it doesnt have swirl drag lol.

I know right? We have a used car dealership 2 miles from us...we've seen the "detailing" that goes on there...wool pad and rotary two step...EVERY car on the lot looks the same...a hologramed up mess :-\

Bob, thanks so much. I knew you'd like this Vette write up :). And i wish you and yours the same...enjoy it and stay warm. The next one probably wont be AS exciting as this...was a new Regal GS - but it was a wheels off detail...so the wheels turned out beautifully - i'll get to it when i get a minute!

Thanks so much and i hope you and yours have a great holiday season. Detailers 911 for the win! A buddy of ours out here called/texted the other day with a question about a soft black re-painted car...i seriously almost answered the phone with "Detailers 911 - whats your emergency?" :props:

I have always been a chevy fan, but this says something about the quality of their workmanship. Don't get me wrong the stingray is a fabulous piece of their corvette line, but the fact that they failed to pay attention to detail and deliver a fabulous machine in such poor condition on the outside. I can say i have lost slight respect in the workmanship of chevy. If I was the owner I would write a personal letter to chevy expressing how disappointed I was in the condition my vehicle was delivered in. These cars haven't been out for a year, With that many defects I am speechless.

But congrats to you!

woah this was the dealership who hacked it. Its not good that someone who is detailing cant see what they did here. That dealership is very dangerous. It could have even been dry wiped and washed by the dealer. Chevy would have only touched up one area where if it was bumped or had some accident in their plant.

He said he will be contacting Chevy directly, which i was glad to hear. He went to the dealer first to see if he could get compensated at all..of course they said they wouldn't. They said if he had just come in that their EXCELLENT in house detailing staff would have fixed it...then went on to brag how great they are *rolls eyes*. Whatever....at least the owner is happy.

Lol, soooo you believe the DEALER left the pigtails and sanding marks left over...that the factory had NOTHING to do with this? The dealer MAY have left some of the holograms but sanding marks? No way...

Sorry but i take a bit of offense to you saying that "Its not good for someone who details to see what they did here"...i did - and do see - exactly what happened and i think you might want to research a bit on the condition that MANY C7's are being delivered in....they changed the painting process for these my man.

There are numerous reports of sever orange peel (more so than usual), paint drips and i recently even saw a buddy of mine in NC who was doing a grey C7 shoot photos of areas where you could literally see primer....they didn't even put enough base coat on to cover the primer in spots...think thats the dealership too?

The objective at the plant is to get it out of the door ASAP. If they are doing full buffs at the plant I wouldn't understand why. Like I said cars for my company are only went over at the certain spot only IF they are bumped or scraped in the plant. MAybe they are taking some premium step with the C7 by detailing them,,or attempting to.

I know orange peel is pretty bad on cars today.

A couple of comments.

First. You both did a fabulous job of repairing the finish on a car that should have come perfect from the factory.

If I had been the purchaser of that car I would be in court. How many years worth of sun protecting clear coat were removed. First by the ones that created the original damage, and then by the correction needed to fix it?

Second. If the damage was "dealer installed" I hope that the buyer makes it a matter of wide public knowledge.

Five years ago I was asked to go to the dealer with a friend of mine to inspect his new car before signing the paperwork. I brought some MF towels, some QD and a small spray bottle of distilled water and alcohol.

I used the QD to gently remove the dust and water spots, then went over a small area on each panel to examine the paint finish. It was all pretty good (for a dealer molested car) except for the passenger door that had obviously been repainted, and badly at that. After seeing that he refused delivery on that particular car and had them order him another. They WERE PISSED! They even accused me of "changing the paint on the door"

Dealers

Thank you and yes i totally agree about the clear coat factor. I do hope that the coating we applied helps to make up for that slack and the fact he is going to have us do the washes from here on out should hopefully minimize the amount of future swirls - thus minimize the amount of future polishing needed (hopefully).

The buyer did post on CorvetteForums.com - annnd while some understood what i explained it to be - many thought it was something other than buffers and sanding that caused the damage *shrugs*..whatcha gonna do?

That story about the dealer is funny! They accused you of changing the paint! Man you must have some super quick detailer to do that. Thats crazy but not surprising either - your friend was smart to have you come along :)
