Hi,
This is my second time using a DA polisher and I wanted to use this opportunity to get your comments/suggestions on the work I did.

A little history on the vehicle: It is a crystal black pearl Honda CR-V. My wife's daily driver. We bought it almost brand new as it had about 1600km on the odo. I remember at the time, there was a scratch on the passenger door that I asked dealer to fix. So they detailed the exterior they said. Later I realized that it was a mistake to ask them to do anything. Anyway, as most daily drivers, it's been through its share of car washes and the swirls were clearly visible. A few scratches here and there but nothing major.

1. Washed using a two bucket method
2. Decontaminated using mother clay bar. Would have used ironX but ran out so I made sure I clayed it well.
3. Washed again and hand dried using microfiber towels.
4. My initial thought was to use Wolfgang's Total Swirl remover with a LC Orange CCS pad. I did that and removed swirls only so I switched to Wolfgangs Uber Compound and LC Cyan hydro tech pad to attack scratches.
5. Polished with Wolfgang finishing glaze and a LC White pad.
6. Sealed with Wolfgang Paint Sealer on LC Red pad.

Washed using Meguiars car wash, boar skin brush:

Taped off to protect the trim and this vehicle has a lot of it:

Ok, so the damage was clearly present:

This is a close up of the above picture of a hood section showing some scratches I had to deal with:

Moving onto the Before/After shots:

This is a nasty scratch I mentioned earlier. I managed to take it out almost completely. Also you can see a hologram inflicted by the dealer trying to fix the scratch:

My wife clearly never listened when I told her how to open the door :)

In this shot, I tried to capture what happens when you compound only (on the right) and when you follow up with a polish (on the left). Correct me If I am wrong, but is that micro marring left by the compound?:

The final product. A reflection of my house on the hood:

My boy doing an inspection and judging by the look on his face, I don't think he's happy:

A shot of the driver's side mirror. You can see the stone chips:

The trim was treated with Wolfgangs Trim Sealant. The rims were pretty clean to start with so I just washed them again and applied some tire shine:

Forgot to add these photos.
Just showing the difference in paint after four to five section passes:

That Honda looks great. Even more impressive is,it's only your 2nd time machine polishing. Keep up the good work!

Excellent work making that delicate paintwork howl with a great shine and depth you and your little helper did amazing work

Thanks guys....I was a bit worried, just from reading here on the forms, for one BLACK paint, and two, HONDA paints being soft.

Nice job.

Make sure you strip the paint after polishing to get true results.

Great job! I also have a CR-V and the paint is indeed pretty soft, but it finishes nicely. Ive never used Uber on it, just Meguiars UC, but I know Uber is awesome as well. My wife's Volt needed more than UC due to its hard clear, and Uber made quick work of the swirls and RIDS on it.

Id suggest using a coating on that CR-V now that is all swirl and scratch free to avoid swirling it up while washing.

What would you recommend for a coating? I already sealed it with Wolfgang sealant.

I havent used any yet, although I picked up PBL on this last sale weekend. The reason I suggested it is you did so much good work Id hate you to have to redo several times over the next couple years like I have, lol.

Im going to prep a section this weekend and apply it to compare its durability and mar resistance to the rest of the car, which recently got 476 on it.

Does coating help seal the paint though?

Oh yeah, it will basically form a ceramic glass layer over the car. Anything that can get through a coating can go through a traditional paint sealant 10x faster.

I agree with everything he said!

Just goes to show that this machine polishing thing isn't that hard. It's also sad that dealerships can't get their act together and do the same type of work you did to all the cars they detail instead of swirling out the paint.

Nice work!

I expect your neighbors, friends, family members and co-workers to start asking you when you can do their cars and how much you charge. This is the normal progression.
