my brand new GG orbiter 6" polisher is dead. It is brand new. I just start using it. I bought it 3 weeks ago.

I am dissappointed in GG product

It is under warranty

Call Customer Service on Monday

They will sort it out

I'm not a rep for Griot's but have been dealing with them since 2005 and they have, without a doubt, the best customer service, period! You call them 1st thing Monday morning and they will handle it, wouldn't be surprised if they overnighted you a brand new machine out once yours comes in the door, maybe a couple pads for the quick fail. I'm sorry it went bad so quickly as I'm sure you needed it right then and there but they (Griots) always come through!

Subscribed for progress!

Yea don't be too disappointed. Electrical tools and any electronics in general can fail. Every last part for every last company can't be 100 percent forever. Lucky for you there is a great warranty backing the product and of it makes you feel better I've never had one break. So it might just be an unlucky item.

Same think just happened to me. First time using it. Polished the car, used it to apply a glaze and was in the process of applying a sealant and it decided to stop working. Sent it in 8/28 and got a call a few days after they received it to verify the shipping info and a replacement should be shipped out next week. Good customer service, just hope the replacement unit lasts a while.

Wonder if the BO of the machines means someone else is making them for Griot's and its not as good of quality.

Now this has nothing to do with anything, really, but I have a digital tire gauge from Griot's that's over 7 yrs old and I've never replaced the battery, LOL!

everything is made in China anyway. it isn't made in US for sure.

my windshield is now scratch due to malfunction polisher. How do I fix this problem?

Post some pictures if you can. A carpro glass pad on some ceriglass work wonders! I've never tried it with a GG6 but I've had great success with it on the Flex 3401.

Just got my replacement polisher! Quick turnaround especially with a holiday. Time to wax the car.

AG refer me to griot. I have to return it to griot.

There is no guarantees. The first Griots was just a rebadged Porter Cable. The 2nd and 3rd Gen polishers are just a generic 850 watt Dual Action polisher manufactured in China. The difference between the 2nd and 3rd Gen was that Griots just got that Chinese manufacturer to mold different casings and added rubber to the grip and polisher head etc.

There is never any guarantee when it comes to these things. I suspect the warranty is lifetime because the cost of manufacture of one of these polishers is dirt cheap when buying in bulk from their Chinese manufacturer. Who cares about a higher rate of failure when they can just replace it.

It is a big deal when when you're in the middle of polishing a clients car, it goes dead and you're stranded.

Yes, I would agree. But a real pro would have some backup machine, access to one, or a backup plan. No client would care if your machine died. Getting the job done is the detailer's responsibility and not the responsibility of Griots.

It seems like I've seen threads stating "my machine died" on almost EVERY machine AG sells. Honestly, the ones I can't recall seeing are the Cyclo & Rupes.

I agree. I didn't want to necessarily write that, but like you said, for many professional detailers time is money. The last thing you want is your GG6, that you are using either as your main polisher or as a backup to your flex/rupes/rotary, to go dead and you have to send it out for replacement.

I honestly wonder what the failure rate is myself. I know back in 2012 when I used to post more, quite a few who used them for long periods of time or heavy detailing would have the unit fail and Griots even started to remove the word "professional" from their stickers so that they could say the product wasn't designed for professional use. Now if you also look at their warranty, it's got quite a bit of word play in regards to their lifetime warranty. Back then, the same Chinese models were also sold around UK/Australia under different names/badging like DAS-6 or Concours 900 etc.

It happens. Just call them and they'll replace it.

Good info here for sure, no doubt about it but at the end of the day, when using a machine, any machine, even a Rupes, it can and will fail, there's one out there that has, I mean its a machine.

The best advice to come out of all this to have a back-up!

LOL....I get a kick out of people who use say "all machines fail". REALLY, I mean REALLY?

The failure rate of the Griot's is MUCH higher than that of Flex, Rupes, Porter Cable, etc...

C'mon guys!

I mean machines in general Mark, all of them, polishers, engines, etc, that's all. Yeah the Rupes is a quality machine and is a pretty new item, so it hasn't been out all that long. Hopefully for those who plunk down the $$$ for the Rupes it doesn't have as many issues.

Could it be the Griot's machine has a higher failure rate because there's more of them on the market though?
