Same think just happened to me. First time using it. Polished the car, used it to apply a glaze and was in the process of applying a sealant and it decided to stop working. Sent it in 8/28 and got a call a few days after they received it to verify the shipping info and a replacement should be shipped out next week. Good customer service, just hope the replacement unit lasts a while.

It is a big deal when when you're in the middle of polishing a clients car, it goes dead and you're stranded. There is no guarantees. The first Griots was just a rebadged Porter Cable. The 2nd and 3rd Gen polishers are just a generic 850 watt Dual Action polisher manufactured in China. The difference between the 2nd and 3rd Gen was that Griots just got that Chinese manufacturer to mold different casings and added rubber to the grip and polisher head etc.
There is never any guarantee when it comes to these things. I suspect the warranty is lifetime because the cost of manufacture of one of these polishers is dirt cheap when buying in bulk from their Chinese manufacturer. Who cares about a higher rate of failure when they can just replace it.
