Which electric pressure washer? There should be a sticky

Can a foam cannon be added easily to the Sun Joe SPX3000?

The fitting that comes with the MTM Hydro foam gun mates up perfectly to the Sun Joe SPX3000 connector. No extra fittings necessary.

I think you'll be glad you did.

I just assembled mine today and ran it thru a concrete cleaning shakedown. It's a BEAST! I've owned two other electric pressure washers before this, and the fit and finish on the Sun Joe unit and the quietness of operation has so far exceeded the other 2 units.

The first unit I owned was a cheap Walmart $80 Karcher unit. K2.230 I believe was the designation. 1.25 GPM And 1550 max PSI. It worked for washing for 5 long years, but wouldn't push a foam cannon worth anything. I sold it still working to a neighbor for $40 bucks.

As I had such a good run with the first Karcher, I replaced it with a K5.740 unit. This is the flagship model of consumer level PWs from Karcher.

It sucked. To be fair, it did run the foam cannon much better than the K2.230 model I had before, but it broke after 1 year and 3 weeks. Exactly 3 weeks past warranty. Karcher would not help me out. I was pissed. This unit is $300, is supposed to be their best, most rugged consumer model, with a water cooled pump for longevity, and it croaked 3 weeks out of warranty. And the real gripe is I was only using it 1 time a week to wash cars, it's not like it was being abused or used commercially.

I refuse to buy another Karcher product. I've been using an old foam gun that attaches to the garden hose for the last 4 months, and I'm missing the pressure washer. So I started shopping around and reading reviews of the Sun Joe unit. There's not as many reviews out there of the SPX3000, but what I could find was very solid. When the price hit $169.99 at Walmart online, I bit the bullet and ordered one. I like that I'll have a local place to take it back to should I have a problem.

Let me say this about the Sun Joe unit. Everything feels very high quality and is well thought out. All connection points are threaded and metal. The wand is fitted with a standard m22 quick connect. The pressure hose is a high grade rubber rated for about 900PSI more than the unit can produce and seems kink resistant. The pressure output line is on the back of the unit, and the input line is on the front. Both as located very low toward the bottom of the unit which helps balance the unit and makes it harder to tip. The Karcher unit tips over with a stiff wind as the pressurized hose comes off the reel at the top, so you're constantly tugging the top of the unit and unbalancing the whole setup.

Though the Sun Joe unit does not have a hose reel, it does have a dedicated hanger for the hose, and the cord. The hangers are secured with actual screws so they don't come off. The Sun Joe unit also features standard hoses and fittings, nothing proprietary on this unit.

And the last thing I'll add is this: the Karcher K5.740 unit is rated at 1.4GPM and 2000PSI. The SPX3000 is rated at 1.76GPM and 2030PSI.

either the 0.36 GPM makes all the difference in the world to power, or the Karcher unit had to be over rated, or the Sun Joe unit is severely under rated. I removed concrete funk with the second weakest fitting on the Sun Joe unit that the Karcher unit could not remove with the power attachment. It's that much different.

I'm about to go out and wash the Mrs. car right now. I'll report back on the foam cannon perofromance in a bit.

Thanks for the review. Sounds like a solid unit right in my $ ballpark. Eagerly awaiting your followup.

Foam is as good or better than the beefier Karcher unit I used to own. I actually got foam to build substantially. 2-2.5oz of CG Honeydew and the rest hot water.

if you are buying a foam gun, look into the MTM Hydro gun made for the smaller 2600 PSI. it's the sweet spot for this machine.

I wonder if your Karcher K5.740 was as dud? I've easily put 50-60 hours on mine without an issue and it strips concrete fast and easy with no chemicals. This wall was built in 1990 and cleaned in 2014 with my Karcher. This is with the rotating dirt buster wand. The fan spray wand that has the soap dispensing is a lower pressure design to be safe and not capable of damaging automobiles, as such, it does not work like the dirt buster for these kind of jobs.

The only gripe I have, and its minor, is that getting a full water solid prime in the Karcher can be a pain in the butt. Until it completely clears the air voids from the pump, its louder, vibrates much more and has no where near the power or volume. I'm wondering if your 740 for some reason was sucking air and never getting full prime? Mine will at times take 3-5 minutes of playing around with it before all of the sudden the sounds changes at the pump and the spray from the wand dramatically changes as well and then your getting full power.

Cleaning my new 2014 Jeep front axle of mud after wheeling, I stripped a bunch of the factory black paint from it by accident and had to re-coat it with VHT chassis paint. That was with the provided rotating dirt buster wand, not the soft spray wand for washing cars.

It's possible something was wrong with it from the get go, but unfortunately I nor karcher will ever know.

Glad yours is working well, I'd love to have a known currently working one side by side with this unit to see how they both perform, but I'm not investing that kind of dough to know definitively. I've got one now that is working better then my old one, so I'll be happy with that.

Longevity on this Sun Joe unit is the only X factor right now.

Im in the market for an electric pressure washer around 400$ mainly to wash the car. The plan is to fix the unit on the wall inside the garage and have it connected to water permanently and with a power outlet close by so I don't have to mess with hoses and power cord all around the ground. I want a unit that I can simply reel on and off the high pressure hose without having to disconnect the gun. I want to go in the garage flip the water valve , flip the power switch, turn on the unit and simply reel off the spray gun. Most unit have a reel only to store the hose I want a unit where its always connected. Other option is to buy a high pressure reel but id rather have a all in one unit. So any suggestions?

I am going to to pick up the Sun Joe SPX3000 Amazon has it on sale for 150 free shipping

With the Ryobi 1700-PSI Pressure Washer..

Does the engine do a complete stop when its not pumping water?

This is needed to construct when you don't have a quick connect wand...

Now imagine screwing and unscrewing this when plain water is needed...

I recently bought a green works from Lowes on the recommendation of a
couple people here on AGO. I love that thing. Had 2 different Karchers that I sold because I hated the cheap hard plastic water line. The green works has a braided water line, is very quiet, has the same brass gun connectors as my gas unit (can use my foam cannon on both) and quick release tips. Just my $.02

I also have the Greenworks one from Lowes and use it with my MTM foam cannon and it works great. Does everything I need for $99.

This makes no sense again... I posted in my original post on this thread that AR makes their own foam cannon with the adapter on it, for just about the same price as an MTM Hydro is by itself. If I didn't think I would have an issue from posting a link to it I would.. And unscrewing it?? You just twist the top to open it to put water in it..

I have a Campbell Hausweld model...it doesn't have a "quick connect " wand

Just trying to educate people here and show what i had to do to get a Foam Canon on it to work..
Just letting guys know that a quick connect wand is easier to work with

My fault not researching

:poke:

Will keep an eye out for sales...:bolt:

I love my Karcher K5.740 and the mating chassis cleaner for getting the salt out from under the car. I've used it a ton and not had any issues. I got both the washer and the chassis cleaner from Amazon for about $450. If it died today, I'd order the same thing again tomorrow.

Do you use an MTM foam cannon/lance?

No, I don't have a foam creating attachment. It has a soap dispensing bottle and the soft spray wand attachment has the ability to be set for dispensing soap our for the soft spray pressure wash. If you set it for dispensing soap, the flow drops down to near nothing and the water congress out the end of the wand and may travel a foot horizontally before gravity completely takes it. It's not a foam at all, rather it's water with some obvious soapy bubbles.

I don't think that there is a foam device by Karcher, and due to the Karcher proprietary quick attachment design, I don't think that there are any other brands that marry into the Karcher units.

JTC, there's no foam lance/cannon that would fit into a Karcher PW?
