Shipping

I always said that I am only going to order from AG when, one night I saw an AG staff member rescue a baby from a burning building. True story.

We don't like paying shipping either, believe me. UPS certainly doesn't give us a free shipping coupon code if we spend over X amount. :work:

No, but they sure as heck discount if you ship a lot. So it's now a profit center. Pay low, sell high.

:iagree:

The company my dad works for used to allow employees to ship/have things shipped using their UPS number and it was unbelievable how much cheaper it was. On several things they sold, they made more money on the "markup" on shipping than they did the actual products. I'm sure AG doesn't ship the volume that this company does, but I don't think AG is charging the actual cost of the shipping either.

Shipping is a fact of life. I work in a supply business and we have to ship products in from our suppliers and deliver to our customers. We charge for our materials based on the cost of materials plus the cost of shipping them to us. We charge a delivery charge to take materials to our customers(we can't seem to find trucks that run without fuel or drivers). Autogeek could charge more for their products to cover the cost of shipping, but the cost of shipping has to be covered some way. TANSTAAFL. There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.

People always want something more. It's never enough. AG could have a 20% off with free shipping(no minimum) and some would still want more. I can see it now..."What, no free overnight shipping?! I'm never ordering ever again!"

Someone mentioned AG doesn't "need" your business, no but they do WANT your business and my experience with this forum, the store, and fine people at AG, they clearly enjoy trying to make the customer happy.

Can't please everyone!

That's not even close to reality. If they gave 20% off and free shipping this thread wouldn't exist.

Maybe, those who pay shipping are also picking up the tab for those who do not pay shipping. If we vote, as a community, maybe we can get rid of free shipping to lower shipping across the board.

I sell packaging for a living, it's not just the cost of the UPS or Fed Ex, all that nice packing paper they put in the box to make sure you get the products undamaged, those all cost too.

Why would AG charge cost to ship?! It's a business, for profit. It's not like when you place an order it's magically picked and packaged. They have employees that have to pick and package, or should those employees not be paid? With any business, there is overhead, sad how some people don't realize that. As a business owner myself, I deal with it daily.

Must not have been around here often.... When AG had 15% off sales, people complained for free shipping. When AG offered free shipping, people whined for more. Then AG had sales for a high percentage off and free shipping at $90...still wasn't enough. So sorry to say...threads like these will always exist.

Between the discount codes and the sales we run, there are several ways to save when you shop with us. The AGO veterans have heard this over and over again, but we're more than happy to price match a competing site if they offer a better deal, shipping included.

True, But if I add, say 6 foam pads to my order, the shipping goes up by $12.00. You can't tell me..... That is why I suggest flat rate USPS Priority mail. I don't mind paying actual shipping costs, but yours are jacked.

I limit my purchases with AG during sales and promotions ONLY! To be completely honest, other suppliers offer more attractive shipping offers, which is money I would certainly spend with AG if they were more competitive.

IMO shipping should be the cost to actually ship the item. Handling and "overhead", as you put it, should be covered by the profit they make from selling the products. Maybe the extra cost is related to their great customer service and is just a price that has to be paid, but I have bought from many companies with great service, prices and cheap LOW flat rate/free shipping, so idk.

On the statement about people always wanting more, I'll give you that. You can't please everyone, but I think it would be less of an issue if shipping was more reasonable. Either way I like AG. I have learned a lot from the people on this forum and will continue to buy the things I need from AG, but only when they have the sales.

Agreed, but bulk packaging paper and peanuts are not significant compared to the actual cost of shipping IMO.

And here is the proof. This is shipping to NY. How much do 6 foam pads weigh? Im not positive but $12.95 seems quite steep IMO. If I could spend $150 each order I would but I am not going to add $115 more to my order to save $12.95 in shipping costs.

Not everyone is of the mindset that they have to or want to haggle everything - especially something like shipping. This place isn't Craigslist is it?. So what happens is many go to the place that offers the lowest total price. Unfortunately many times it's not a PBMG site. And while the sales are nice? I'm not holding an order to see what this weeks concoction of a price + shipping + free gift + treat for your dog is.

Exactly!

Items they sell on Amazon is usually cheaper on shipping. PBMG...

This subject sits sorely with me. I've been declined on a price/shipping match in the past by AG, and thats why I never use this site to shop anymore. I live in HI, yea I know its far, but its the the USofA! USPS Ships here at the same rate as ANY CONUS state.

I now use about 4-5 different sites to order products. Yea, its a hassle but money talks!

So far this year on just ONE of my sites i've spent $1485. Amazon must be at least that as well (I dont order from PBMG on amazon either because of shipping prices).

Problems could be solved easily: USPS FLAT RATE SHIPPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Order 1 Gal Hyper dressing
AG = $40-50 shipped to HI
Everywhere else = $15.80 USPS Flat rate shipping large box

USPS Flate rate boxes are $FREE.00 All PBMG need pay for is peanuts and tape. AND USPS will PICK UP from the business location and drop off empty boxes FOR FREEEEEEEE.

Like Mike Phillips recently said in a thread recently "Don't make your customer WORK at doing business with you. Or in other words, don't make your customer WORK at giving you their money. You want to make it EASY, not hard."

Well Mike needs to take a trip into the business office and give them this speech. All this playing games with discounts, free shipping, fine print, etc is just too time consuming for a guy like me. I rather buy at a guaranteed discount (membership plan based on how much money is spent), pay for flat rate shipping, and be done with it.

Well I have always been a huge critic of the shipping fees and people are dead on about either including it in price, finding cheaper rates, flat rate etc etc.

However. One thing that has been WAY BETTER in the last three weeks is speed to get it shipped out. Less than 24 hrs, he'll 12 hrs and if you use the WEST COAST comment it is getting here quicker. Still have to wait for the free shipping options or wait until I need many things but it is getting better.

I ALMOST called in to get some price matching to save a few bucks. Right now, everything helps. I reckon it would have been roughly 4 bucks. Worth my time to call it in? NOPE. Especially with 20% off some already decent prices (and OMG the Fuzion at 50$)

Items they sell on Amazon is usually cheaper on shipping. PBMG...

I'm really disliking Amazon right now. I'm a 2nd year Prime member. If it wasn't for me forgetting about the auto-renew, I likely would NOT have renewed Prime.

Just ONE day before I learned of this Pre-Labor Day Sale at 20% off, coupled with the 50$ Fuzion, I was doing a price comparison between another site (which happens to be located about 40 minutes from me) and Amazon. Same exact products. Sure, Prime offers the 2 day free shipping. But when they charge 9$ for a window cleaner, while the other sites offer it at 4 and change, is it worth it? At two bottles, I break even. At three bottles, I save by NOT using Amazon. In the end, all the items between the two "stores" were at 78$ at the "detaling" store while it was 103$ on amazon. Yeah. Both shipped, but Amazon would have been two days. Whatever. I didn't need the stuff right then and there. Plus, I contemplated saving an additional 14$ or so by driving to the "detailing" store during my lunch. My car gets pretty good MPGs so it would have been worth it.

In the end, I didn't order from either place, as I wanted to see what else I would want/need. Then this site had the sale. Sure, I had to buy a few more products to take advantage of the free shipping, but it's stuff I was looking to buy within the next month anyway. SOOOO, in the end, I saved a pretty damn good deal of money. Thanks AG:xyxthumbs:

Yup, I refuse to go through the price matching game.

I'd buy far more products from AG if they made things easier (and didn't make me work).
