Do your neighbors think you're crazy?

Of course, I get all of this, too. I also live in a townhome community and I'm pretty sure I'm the ONLY person that washes without going to the "car wash." People walking by usually say, "is mine next?" or "didn't you just do this a few days ago?" Yes, yes I did. It also rained since then and the car has been driven, so it needs to be cleaned again. Did you shower today? Didn't you shower yesterday, too? Of course you did. You were dirty. Well, the car is dirty, so I'm giving it a bath - a nice honeydew foam bath!

I think they really thought I was bonkers when they first saw the foam cannon in action. Oh, that and the leaf blower to dry the car.

They'll never get it. They'll also never have a car as clean as mine. Ha!!

My nearest neighbor doesn't think I'm crazy....he KNOWS I'm crazy  He is also my boss!

My neighbors shake their heads side to side a lot.

I get teased almost daily by the guys at work.

I came in tired Tuesday and they said "He either waxed all night or read about it!" lol

My neighbors see different cars come and go and every now and again I have a few neighbors that stop by and want to know what I do and what I charge then they leave quickly. Like I have posted on here before I do not want to do regular run of the mill appliance cars I only like doing enthusiast cars.

When i worked at toyota as a "deatiler".. the other "Detailers" would tease me about spending 45 minutes washing my car saying it should never take that long.lol.

But i usually wash mine at home ever weekend. Unless i'm extremly bored during the week. i live right across from a reputable body shop and even he gets a kick outta me washing all the time. I have a friend who drives a tundra with a 8" lift and 38" tires... it's black.. she wants it washed n waxed almost weekly. She doesn't understand how long it takes me to do.

My neighbors always ask: why don't you just pay to have it done?

likewise...every time I wash a car, I get the chorus of 'mine next?' but all the passers-by. I don't mind and just tell them sure, 25 bucks, get in line. Though, I did have a neighbor, who is friends w/ a co-worker of mine, ask him how the heck I keep our cars looking so good all the time. My co-worker told him I use some sort of secret sauce car wax :D

A lot of my neighbors want their cars to look like mine. Three have bought DAs and pads and a few other things I told them to buy. I usually let them use my compounds and polishes. I help them with clay because I have the speedy prep towels and pad.

Sure they think I'm crazy, so does my wife and family, till they need their cars done.

Then they ask why I don't do all the stuff to theirs as o do mine. Simple reply: "because you don't care to maintain it like I do"

Great answer

i Have one neighbor across the street i dont talk to anymore .
I like to wash before the sun comes up. usually start around 8 am.
by the time i wash it is a little before 9 and he dont like when i use my leaf blower. He said my bedroom is in the front and my wife and son is sleeping. Does anyone else have this problem? And does anyone know what the law is for starting up equipment on a saturday before 9 am?

I tend to do the same thing, timing-wise, since it gets hot quickly during the days here in Florida. I use a master blaster to dry, and do think about the noise - so try to not be using it until after 9 am. Seems reasonable to me - and the noise is 15-20 minutes or so. So far no complaints.

with my leaf blower it only takes me like 3 min to blow the water off and then use my waffle
weave. He just annoys me. he is the only one to complain. lol

I'll do a standard 2-bucket wash in the winter (here it gets in the 30's absolute coldest..most of time high 40's) and my neighbors comment on it all the time

My neighbors always ask: why don't you just pay to have it done?

yup.. my response, when my neighbor said that to me " says the guy that spends all day in the sun riding on a lawn mower" lol
I get some questions about what I'm doing i.e. using a leaf blower or two buckets and when I try to explain, I see their eyes start to gloss over..so I stop. Most think its cool b/c my kids are out there "helping" me. Seeing a two year old with a powerwasher is a sight.

I've had a few of those "is mine next" type of comments but those are from passer by's. I only had one neighbor comment to me and she said you wash your cars a lot. Otherwise, no other comments. I'm glad.

That's ridiculous! 9AM is way too late for someone to complain. What time do they wake up??? 11AM?

I wake up at 5AM to wash my car during the summer because I don't want the sun hitting my car while washing. Unfortunately, I can't use my master blaster or leaf blower whenever I wash my car this early. I wouldn't hesitate to use them if it's after 8AM. But man, the sun is out in full force and drying up the car during that time.

I've had a day here where a truck unloaded gravel at 6:30AM. A ton of beeping and metal to metal banging. There have also been landscapers that clean other the yards of other houses at 7AM. Some of them on a Sunday...

Generally people only make any comments once.

I can talk them all under the "table".

Plus I always have a ready answer for anyone making the "is mine next' comment. I always keep a credit application handy for them to fill out.

When they ask why I let them know that the first detailing appointment will take a full weekend and will cost $1600.00

I will be putting their car up on a lift, removing the wheels, possibly pulling off the entire front clip for access to the engine bay and any other stupid thing I can think of.

By then they have run away, never to return.

Haha it don't bother me,I lived with an old off the boat Italian grandfather who use to call me a prince for showering every day! God I miss him! I block out my neighbors comments,my wife don't mind it keeps me outta her hair. I have a neighbor a couple houses down who is "crazy" like me,and my next store neighbor tries to keep their cars clean like mine so they get the wash and wax at the ole swirl o matic car wash! I can see the swirls from my driveway! "Hey can u do mine next" sure line em up

I have a few neighbors that have watched me enough that they are starting to get it. They commented all the time on how shiny the cars look. Then they started asking what I did and what I used to get them that way. Instead of "is mine next?" you get get specific questions. When you hear a difference in the way they ask questions, you can see it IS starting to rub off on them.

I have converted three to using Collinite waxes and two for Sonax Wheel cleaner.

The best part about that kind of crazy, is when it spreads!
