What did you do today non-detailing related?

We'll just stick with our Kangaroos thanks, I saw one last week that was almost as tall as me, but it took off when the dogs started barking.

I mean I bet we could hook you up if you want

Remember

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger

Except bears

Bears will kill you

My sister's always sending me videos of bears roaming her property over in Cedar Mountain. They are a bit more remote so there's no trash pickup so nothing stored outside but doesn't stop them from looking around.

This is not normal for us. I'm nowhere near bear territory but our local wildlife officials have said that they are moving in due to habitat destruction and we've just got to learn how to live together. Looks like my kids are going to need to mount some gatling guns to their scooters and bikes.

Yeah, she's a lot further west than you and it's "mountain rural". I forget how many acres she has but it's enough that you can't see any of the neighbor's places at the same time you can see hers. She says the deer cause way more damage than the bears.

I made sure that all of my guns in my safe are lock and loaded. A 500 pound black bear and her cubs were spotted at my neighborhood pool which is located at the bottom of my street. While I'm an avid animal lover, I still want to be prepared if necessary. I'm sure he'll be back tomorrow with everyone putting their trash cans out in the evening for Thursday morning pick up.

one of my coworkers has to use tie-down straps on his trash cans due to the black bears. he showed my ring camera video of one pushing it down his driveway.

we just had a black bear spotted in a local town in the downtown area. definitely seem to be more prevalent in areas you wouldn't expect to see them.

We paid extra for “bear proof” trash cans during the summer

Had a complicated latch that I almost couldn’t work

The bears learned to knock them over and just climb up on them and keep throwing their weight downward

They popped right open

It’s 9:25 PM

I started mowing at 9:30 AM and deep watering about 11:00 AM

I just put the sprinklers on the last 2 sections

We are going to be gone for 6 days so I’m trying to give the lawn a good soaking without drowning it

It’s supposed to be mostly cloudy while we are gone but no rain until Sunday or Monday

Fingers crossed I have a lawn when I get back

I still need to wash the car in the morning before we take off so fingers crossed for that too

Yep, another Friday of nitwits, today one in particular had the boss quite agitated. (This particular lady I didn't originally serve.)

In this case, the customer asked for a particular tree, was taken over and show what we have, then asked for the staff member to choose one for her, to which she clearly agreed with because she bought it.

Two days later, we get an email from her with the tree planted and secured with a flimsy bamboo stake. Her email included an image, to which she used to illustrate that the trunk is not straight, then complained that she paid $100 for it and what would we be doing to compensate for the slight bend in the trunk. (All trees have a some form of wiggle in the trunk)

Today, she phoned looking for an argument and expecting a full refund. "Sure, bring the tree back and we'll exchange or refund the price. But no, she wanted a discount because she lives 3 hours away. That was despite being told the stake was insufficient, that in general, trees typically straighten and strengthen over time. Again, this was not acceptable in her mind.

In the end, the boss told the customer that we are not in the business of allowing customers to dictate what price or discount they are going to get.

What p.ssed me off though was that she shown several to choose from, bought it, took it home, then went ahead planting and staked it, only then determining it wasn't straight. But no, apparently because "you chose it for me", that meant she was still entitled to a refund without returning the item. She made the decision to buy it, was given a reasonable explanation of how and why, offered our usual exchange/refund policy that EVERY other customer is entitled to. But no, she was entitled to "special" treatment. :bash:

It's funny, a recent addition to the team has previous experience at Bunning's. The stories I heard regarding the returns policy, warranty claims and stock leakage paints a vivid picture as to why customers are so entitled these days. The unrealistic expectations and entitlement are vastly different to when I started in retail 20 years ago. :nomore:

New store policy, you are not allowed to express an opinion on which plants, or trees the customer should buy. You can point them in the direction of what they're looking for, but the final selection is theirs.

Happens all the time. Customer asks for advice, it's our job to interpret their wants by showing a range of options. The customer then buys what they like, go home and plant it. When it doesn't grow, or grows too slow/fast/big, its then "our" fault for telling them said product would be ideal for their situation.......................all completely ignoring the fact they didn't water it, over watered it, over fed it, didn't feed it, they planted it incorrectly. But no, its "our" fault because they were told it would be the perfect choice.

So if I come in with a stick, and claim I was sold a faulty pot plant, I might get some money?

Not from us! We look after customers if they have been unlucky, but you can tell by the leaf, stem and root structure/condition when the customer didn't provide sufficient care during establishment. Again, this stems from customers thinking that plants are like any other house hold purchase, which is silly because they are a living/evolving thing not a door knob or kitchen benchtop.

The funny thing is, I was told today that Bunnings customers can bring in a pot with a soil and a stick in it and they would replace it no questions asked. And they wonder why the plant department is making no money and have sacked or re-deployed staff elsewhere, as well as cutting back on variety to keep cost down.

I do not have a green thumb, I've killed 2 plants we were given when we moved up here, but 2 are still hanging in there, 2 we brought with us from Sydney are still doing well, a rose bush and a frangipani, and a choko vine I planted after grabbing some chokos off a vine on my walks, with permission, is thriving at the moment, it's given us about 10 chokos so far this season, and there's probably about 10 more coming.

My brother loves his plants, he'd have 30-40 at least, but he couldn't wash a car to save his life.
