Ford Raptor Cquartz UK

Not many after coating pictures because this truck really kicked my butt. 23 hours and the wheels are still yet to be coated. Luckily it's my buddy's truck so those can be done another time.

Process:
Wheels and wheel wells cleaned with wheel woolies and various brushes.

Washed with Carpro Reset and microfiber wash mitt.

Ironx.

Clayed with fine grade clay and ONR as clay lube.

M205 on microfiber cutting pad
Essence on black Lake Country Thin Pro
Rupes 21
PC 3 inch - used this 90% of the time because of all the edges and curves

Side note - the doors required Carpro Clear Cut as the vehicle has been "hand washed" by the Hulk apparently while swatting at bees.

Also side note - vinyl raptor stickers were polished with essence on white Lake Country Thin Pro

The owner also had no idea the blue metallic was under there.

Nice turnaround. I would hate to have to detail that truck I had a regular f150 with a lift and it was a nightmare.

Strong work on the detail! It takes a lot of work to coat that monster. I have a raptor also, my second one. I coated my first one with cquartz uk and my second with optimum gloss coat. Waaaaaay faster/easier with gloss coat, which also looked better imho. Especially after topping with optimum hyperseal. Cquartz uk was a lot more fussy as far as flash time/removal/high spots. Also seemed to mar easier IME.

Strong work on the detail! It takes a lot of work to coat that monster. I have a raptor also, my second one. I coated my first one with cquartz uk and my second with optimum gloss coat. Waaaaaay faster/easier with gloss coat, which also looked better imho. Especially after topping with optimum hyperseal. Cquartz uk was a lot more fussy as far as flash time/removal/high spots. Also seemed to mar easier IME.

Very interesting. I've never used any coatings outside of the carpro line, but wipe off was ridiculous mainly because it was too warm for UK. Seemed like a 10 second window between just smearing it and it going grabby.

That’s exactly my experience. Glosscoat Was way way easier to remove. Maybe give that a shot next time. Would probably save you quite a bit a time. I’m sure others could chime in as far as other products that aren’t so fussy as well.

I think that is why CarPro changed the formula on CQuartzUK to its new 3.0. Supposed to be easier to wipe off now.

Eh I've used both and will say UK is better than Gloss Coat. Gloss Coat is easy to apply so I agree there. But it's durability is not that great. I've had Gloss Coat not make it last 1 year on 2 cars. And that is here in Southern California where it does not rain and the weather is mid 70's for a majority of the year. The other made it longer because it is garaged. I also think UK looks better especially if Essence is used. Even CQ TiO2 looks better than Gloss Coat. They both marr just as easily.

Yeah that is one con of UK. I have experienced the same thing here in Southern California. But on those cooler days it sure goes on nice. It does not get too humid here. I have not tried the new CQUK 3.0 but I hope to give it a shot soon to compare it.

If it has not crystallized in the bottle then there is nothing wrong with it. I still think UK looks better on darker paints compared to classic. I still have some DLUX that is two years old that has been opened and it is still good and works fine.

I’ve used gloss coat and uk on my personal car (audi) and had significantly more issues with marring with the uk. Can’t comment regarding the longevity of gloss coat yet. I’ve used cquartz uk and 3.0. They seem to have the same hardness as I’ve noticed that they both mar fairly easily. I’ve considered trying other coatings but have a hard time moving on from gloss coat since it’s so easy to apply.
