What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

First off, a sincere thank you to all that contribute to AutogeekOnline. I’ve learned so much in less than a year of mostly lurking (and practicing on other, much less desperate cars), from how I used to do things by hand 20 years ago.

This is my Mom’s 2004 Mazda 6, that mostly sat in the Florida and then the Atlanta sun for the past four years. The before pic is from Feb 2021 when I parked in my driveway, where it sat untouched with the exception of being hosed off a few times a week until two weekends ago.

I used a combination of items I already had and what seems like half of Griot’s catalog for inside and out, plus some Chemical Guys and Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions. I am quite pleased with how it came out. Like most 18-year-olds, it still has its issues and isn’t perfect, but presentable to sell. The new floor mats should be here early this week.

Incredible job, especially those headlights

I used a $16 dent pulling glue kit from Amazon to pull out a dime sized dent on the tailgate of my new minivan. It was dented by hitting the garage door strut the first time the tailgate opened.
Since then the garage door opener has been adjusted to pull the door up higher. The tailgate was adjusted to not open that high.

I am going to test run a new to me tunnel wash today

If it’s decent I’ll start a monthly wash deal

$54 a month for the top of the line wash and you can go every day if you want

I don’t like that damn tricolor foam business but the top wash has the undercarriage blast, wheel blast, extra soap and rinse and stuff

Fingers crossed

The wash I used to use has become hit or miss on how much soap it applies and it doesn’t get the area of the rear hatch under the top rear “wing” clean

I like to either apply Bilt Hamber AutoWash before or rinseless after. No touchless Wash I have ever encounter has done a great job.

Definitely harsh on the LSP’s.

If someone had a subscription around here tho I’d partake.

You mean Auto-Foam?

Started a maintenance wash yesterday but only finished wheels/tires. I tried an OPUS foaming sprayer (same as Griot's) with Meguiars Non Acid Wheel Cleaner. The foam was very thick at the dilution I was using (2:1). Will try diluting it a little more next time.

It was yet another nice weekend in PA. Normal maintenance wash Saturday. Calling for 70 degrees this Saturday! Have to get that truck in for PA inspection and a few other things by the end of the month.

Both are viable options during warmer weather but now, not so much

I have to think that spraying on something like Frothe or any other foaming or non foaming pretreat is not an option as it would in all likelihood freeze within seconds of spraying it on and until I have somewhere warm to work a rinseless followup isn’t an option either

The only possibility is the wand wash because they have roll up/down bay doors so they stay above freezing but they are strict about bucket washing and the like

Their attitude is “if our cash/credit card meter isn’t running then get out”

Their is usually a line so to them time is money

I don’t like it but I certainly understand it

I will keep thinking about it and exploring possibilities

The thing that has me stumped is the first winter we had the car I didn’t have anywhere near this amount of drama keeping it clean

I’m sure the many tunnel and wand washes I had to use on our big road trip left the paint essentially unprotected except for the crap that gets sprayed on at the car wash

Not being able to strip it and protect it before freezing weather has to be a big part of the equation

I thought you were getting hooked up with your new garage with a whole car wash set up?

No drain due to septic system. So he’s worried about a prewash of the crud since he can only do a rinseless in his garage….when it is finished.

Yes I am

But it won’t be completed until next spring

The foundation and concrete work is done and I was hoping they would start framing last week but it’s looking like next week

Regardless, we weren’t expecting to be in it before next May

We are staying at our friends B&B where we frequently stay

They have a covered carport but that’s it

No garage and as of 2 weeks ago, the outside water is off for the winter

This too

But at least I know I can get it clean and then correct and protect even if I can’t do a full blown wash inside

Plus I know I’ll be going into October of next year clean, corrected, and with a Klasse style 73 layer, bulletproof LSP program on board

I’m really studying up on hybrid washes thanks to Crack and Guz and others who have given me some great ideas

Rinseless with Pure and pretreat with N-914. Added a coat of Cosmic on top of Kamikaze OC. Hope this will get me through winter.

Cosmic is so nice to use. Easy on A we sat off…. Melts into paint and leaves a nice gloss and slickness if your into that.

A traditional sprayer, like Griot's compact foaming sprayer.

Hadn't washed the EN for 2 days and I was getting shakes, so I did that right after work, it's sunny and about 70 degrees

I got home and used Dream Maker on the car to add some POP and to touch up the little bit of water, jams too I wiped the spokes on the rims and dressed the tires with TWHS graphene acrylic tire dressing and I hadn't used it a while and now I remember why this and the Adam's version are in my top 3 tire products

So my g/f is making a practice turkey dinner for dinner today, so I wanted to return the favor and wash her car

I started out using CG's Diablo for the rims and Griot's Garage foaming tire cleaner for the tires, used 3 of my brushes to get them nice and clean.

Next was the pre-wash using my Griot's Garage foam gun and poured in 4 oz of TWHS Hyper Foam and an ounce of Bilt-Hamber Auto-foam. I foamed it down, let it dwell and rinsed it off, 2BM was next.

For the 2BM I used Bilt-Hamber AutoWash, 1 ounce is all that's needed and it produces lots of suds and straight up CLEANS️Once I rinsed that down I used my Meg's HCW @4:1 on each panel to give it a little more protection and dried it off.

I'll go out after dinner and apply some tire dressing, it will be a game time decision
