What's in your backyard?

Beside the path where I walk my dogs, no where near as big, but it will wreck your day if you get bitten.

Red Belly Black Snake, I've also seen Brown Snakes in the same area last summer, they are more aggressive, and more venomous. This is about 200 metres from my house.

Scott, when are you putting your house up for sale????

:bolt:

Just think, females only lay up to 100 eggs at a time ...

Tonight, this. Good clear skies and Mars is big and bright, and both Jupiter and Saturn are both high in the sky. Funny thing is, Saturn is the furthest away, but made the best viewing, the rings were really visible tonight.

I didn't see anything other than a few birds.

This time of year though it isn't uncommon to find deer raiding people's bird feeders and the occasional coyote stalking people's back yards for the rabbits the hawks haven't thinned out. And I'm in a suburban development...

A few years ago I worked with a budding astronomer and he taught me a few things about the sky.

He showed me a few planets that can be seen with the naked eye, Venus, Mars and Mercury almost year round. I found it extremely interesting and I have a lot of respect for astronomers after many talks with him.

It's dark out now, but I'm sure the dogs left "a little something" for me to find in the morning.

Ahhh, the joys of dog ownership.........

I always consider it a bonus if they decide to do their poos at the same time when I'm walking them. Means I only have to use one bag, and find one bin to put it in.

Like Desertnate mentioned, we get deer. Lots of deer. I put a trail camera out every night, and it's not uncommon to get 4 or more at one time. And we live in the suburbs, not the country. We've gotten to where we name them. This is "Big Boy", a 10 pointer, if anyone cares:

There were 5 last night, just before midnight. That's "X-Man" at the bird feeder. Since one side of his antler is just a tall spike, he's a mutant.

Now that it's "that" time of year, the young bucks are preening, fighting with the other bucks for a chance of a hot date with one of the does:

We also get turkey, fox, coyote and my favorite, a red tail hawk:

Sorry for all the images. With the pandemic there's not much traveling, so I'm bored.

Don't even get me started on the hummingbirds, I have thousands of those pix:

Astronomy session tonight As long as the blasted clouds don’t roll in and the skunk finds another place to hang out. The last 2 nights were a bust.
