Deyon, I know you listened to the podcast I was a regular guest on but you do know what you posted here was on my "modern classic" list right That right there is not only perfection from BMW but my all time favorite BMW ever!

That and a 4 door e36 M3 were my favorite cars in my younger years.

I do like a good straight 6. My 3rd car was a VL Commodore with the RB30 Nissan engine, it had a 6200rpm redline, and pulled smoothly all the way up to it. Mine was an ex-rental car with 260,000 plus I'm on it. Body rust killed it in the end

The E36 M3 is my favourite BMW, not too big or heavy, they were fast, and they handled and stopped. Real giant killers.

Those RB30's were light years ahead when compared to the cast iron Holden and Falcon engines of the time. Dropping the RB30 for the 3.8 V6 was a massive step backwards, it took Holden another 16 years before they caught up, the Falcon 6 only matched the RB30 when the DOHC Barra arrived in 2002.

OMG! It actually moves!

The XR8 has not moved in months, sitting under its cover and connected to the CTEK. But when I woke up this morning and the sun was actually shining, I knew I had to make the most of it. I usually like Easter, however the weather this year was terrible. Cold, dreary and wet.

I have to admit, I have lost a bit of interest in cars recently. But then I get back in this thing and let the Miami run free and I suddenly remember why I keep this car. That engine, an engine that is butter smooth, an engine that pulls like a freight train, an engine that makes me beg for more. It's been said many times that these cars are all about the engine and not much else, well, I'm all good with that!

So with that, it was then the XR8's turn for a detail. Starting with the wheels, I used NV Purge, tyres done with Brake Buster.

I then moved the car inside and dried the wheels with the EGO. I followed that with a rinse-less wash using my favorite combo, P&S Absolute and Bead Maker.

Once dried, I used a towel soaked in Absolute to wipe over the engine bay. Glass attended to with Invisible Glass, interior wiped with a damp towel, tyres dressed with OG Tire and the wheels given a final wipe over with Bead Maker.

Back to spec, ready to be covered and hooked up to the CTEK again.

I also did a rinse-less on the Ranger, using Bowden's Dry Spell this time. I liked this product the first time and liked it again today. Definitely worth trying if you are new this sort of thing.

And the star of my latest big garage project arrived early this morning, the only time it's ok to wake me up early on my day off!

I'm now waiting for a couple of tradesman to do their thing, and then it will be full steam ahead! :dblthumb2:

Ranger Day.

Maintenance wash on the Wildrack first.

After doing a stock take of the chemical cabinet, some out of date and dud products finding their way into the bin, I wanted to use up some nearly empty bottles. First off, Adam's Wheel & Tire Cleaner. This product is good, but not as good as Brake Buster and won't be re-ordered. I also finished off a nearly empty bottle of McKees rubber mat cleaner, this on the other hand HAS been reordered. Gyeon Wet Coat then topped up on the wheels and wheel arches.

I then pre-foamed the car with NV Snow, finishing off the 4 liter bottle. I love this soap and will reorder at some stage, hopefully they will have got on top of the pH issues by then. For the contact wash, Gyeon Bathe was the choice today.

At which point I wonder why I don't use this soap more. It's slick, foams like a champ, rinses freely and cleans well. I have also figured out why the bottles appear blue in website pictures but turn out clear in the real world. The colouring used seems to settle to the bottom of the bottle, then congeals and stays stuck at the bottom, even with a heavy shake.

Continuing the Gyeon theme, it is coated in Can Coat after all, I decided to give their Ceramic Detailer another try.

I was pretty hard on this product after using it on my dark blue XR6, the streaking tainted the experience despite the exceptional gloss it left behind. Today, I did not spray any onto the paint itself, only applying it to the towel as I finished the drying process. This yielded much better results and left me smiling.

Finishing off the interior cleaning, I again reached for a Gyeon product, their Interior Quick Detailer. This is my least favorite of the interior QD's, but its higher alcohol content seems to work very well on screens and glossier trims. The leather was wiped down with ONR. Returning to the exterior, the tyres got a coating of Carpro Darkside.

Next, onto my Ranger and a couple of new products, starting with Ethos Foam Party.

Ethos Foam Party is a pH neutral soap with an "addictive tropical scent" and a high foaming rate. The promise of "lush, shaving cream thick suds" certainly plays out....................although I may have overdosed the foam cannon a bit! :lol

Foam Party is an excellent soap, slick and ultra foamy and a heady fragrance. As usual, the ultimate question when judging a new product is whether I would buy it again. And yes, Foam Party is on that list!

For the drying aid, it was onto another Ethos product, Pro Shine Ceramic Detail Spray.

This is a topper or standalone product that can be used on waxes, sealants or ceramic coatings. I like this aspect, meaning it will play with the variety of the products that I mess about with. Ethos also suggest that it can be used as a clay lubricant, drying aid and for light dust removal. The promise of streak free results also plays out and the scent is a pungent old school detailing product smell.

If there is one aspect I would recommend Ethos change, it would be the colorings. For example, Foam Party is similar to diluted Betadine antiseptic, in both the bucket and foam cannon...........hardly a pleasant visual in my opinion. And Pro Shine is overdosed with a purple die that is looks as if it could stain.................in fact it already had stained the bottle.

I work 6 days per week, 4 at my employer, 2 for myself. So, as you can imagine, my only day off is sacred and woe betide anyone who dares disturb that. So, getting a text message from one of my boss's at 8.03am asking me, with 27 min notice, to join a co-worker for the day to run me through her job so that I can take over while she takes extended leave next month DID NOT GO DOWN WELL.

Now, this task is something I have already done on and off over the years, so I hardly needed to be "trained". In fact, despite me already knowing the run, they chose another, female, staff member with no experience. This already had me puzzled and a little offended, so being asked on short notice to drop everything and go in on my day off was perplexing.

Am I overreacting? This person is famous for his last-minute requests, and usually gets his own way. But not today! I have worked at this place for 20 years, if they haven't figured out yet that I'm the sort of person who plans ahead and doesn't respond very well to last minute changes of mind, well they are extremely slow learners.

If the request had been made last week, then I would have worked around it. But to be sent a demanding message this morning with 27 minutes notice, well that sort of put me in a bad mood all day.

Sorry, venting.

No you aren't overreacting at all. It is actually mind boggling that your management has the audacity to demand you come in on such short notice. I would be livid!

I hit the like button because, as usual, your detailing content is high quality.

Also because you told them to FO. Well done.

I woulda hit him with a

“no thank you. Have a blessed day.”

If they wanted you to train regardless of your experience they shoulda had you do on your day on or planned well in advanced.

After that you should try to let it go and not ruin the rest of your day as it was your day. I have spent a lot of time trying to change how I feel when that happens as not to give those people that power.

Thank you and to those who responded.

I did not have a very good day.

I try so hard to please these people! I get things done that others can't or won't, I show initiative, I'm able to select and get on with my job with little to no guidance, I regularly use my own tools and vehicle for their benefit, I answer phones and serve customers often when I'm on a lunch break. And yet, there is always something that they complain or project an attitude about.

And then, seeing a printed email titled "How to deal with difficult or aggressive employee's" sitting on the desk this afternoon cut deep. So apparently someone (me I suppose) is a difficult employee. All because I didn't drop everything when he clicked his fingers yesterday.

So, I guess customer comments (the ones who in actual effect pay my wages) about how the place looks, how nice the stock is and how much they appreciated my assistance counts for nothing.

I really don't know what else I am supposed to do other than just say yes to each and every demand, don't create a wave, don't speak- and be the yes man they seem to expect.....................and enjoy life even less, which would be hard as it sucks as it is.

You should get someone to call them saying they're from an employment agency, asking for a job reference for you. Maybe scare them a little.

When you help customers out, and they're happy, tell them to put a review on Google and mention you by name.

Take a couple of mental health days, there's no stigma these days, if you need some separation, you take it. Don't let the b*stards get you down.

My advice to someone who puts in way more than they get back is...fu*ck them. Stop doing the extras, stop using your tools, even though it probly helps you out. Do what is required and nothing less, nothing more. You have the power, not them. Im sure this is not in your nature but you need to do it for you.

Hope you find the strength to give them the bird lol

Understand your situation and definitely relate to it. Every day is a Learning Opportunity and we have to realize that. Maybe it’s time to consider what you want to do going forward and Life is telling you that.
Don’t do anything to depreciate yourself in your disappointment but maybe consider some changes. This unfortunately isn’t a rehearsal.

I’m not saying this is it but you seem to have some disposable income. If this is from your employer then maybe they think that this is OK. We pay you well so we don’t have to say please or Thankyou.

Not right but it is the attitude of some employers. Probably hard to gauge what your position is worth as there are probably not to many comps you can compare with.

If pay is better than what most make doing what you do you just may have to deal or find a job that appreciate you. If it equals to comps I would definitely bring up what you do for the job above and beyond most.

Me personally, I’m a dumb ass and woulda emailed this back. (Not recommending you do so unless your ready to get a new job).

HELP!

I coated this car in Can Coat about 6 months ago. This past week, the owner has found this on one side and hood of the car, not removed by a wash with Bathe............

My initial response was that it was an oil/tar type deposit, I tried some TarX on a test spot that only helped slightly. I then asked them to re-wash the car with Carpro Descale thinking perhaps they were water spots, especially after they had admitted it was hit by their sprinklers that draw from a bore. The Descale did not remove them, nor did a more comprehensive hit with TarX.

My next response would be a water spot remover, but they just don't really look like water spots to begin with. The next step I guess would be to polish them out and re-coating?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Circling back to this post, I will be dealing with this issue soon.

From what I have learned, the owner has bore water to irrigate their garden. That water has been tested as being high in iron, which has me thinking perhaps these water spots are from iron deposits, they are somewhat brownish in real life.

Is this a plausible theory, and would using an iron remover be effective here?

Either way, I was planning to do a full decontamination wash on the car, using Descale and a water spot remover in a more controlled environment than the owners attempt and lack of confidence using these products.

Failing all that, I will then proceed to polishing them off and reapplying Can Coat.

Mate we have bore water and it's harder than Chuck Norris! high is iron/ calcium and anything white will turn orange/brown over time. White tiles in the shower and bathtub are a headache. So your theory could be right

Last August, I applied Gyeon Can Coat to my boss's brand-new Mazda CX-5 in lovely Eternal Blue. The finished result was terrific.

Sadly, that result did not last long, with the owner parking the car on their lawn overnight. And of course, the sprinklers coming on and did their thing. Sprinklers fed by bore water rich in iron....................................

Confusingly, these spots don't exhibit the typical water spot appearance. Even still, I gave them a bottle of Carpro Descale and some Spotless to attempt removal..............to nil effect. Cue, another visit to DFB Garage.

Now, I wanted to eliminate user error and decided to try a full chemical decontamination as a starting point, more on that later. Wheel and tyres were first though, using Carpro ReTyre and NV Purge. I also reapplied Gyeon Wet Coat.

With the rolling stock and exhaust tips taken care of, it was time for that decontamination of the paint. The following is a method adapted from Sandro at Car Craft, a multi-step process that attacks the contaminants from several angles.

First step, I applied the pH neutral NV Purify to the whole vehicle from dry. This was then allowed to dwell for several minutes.

I then foamed with the alkaline Carpro Lift. This is applied over the top of Purify, helping to increase the working time of Purify, while introducing alkalinity into the mix to lift tougher grease and grime.

After another several minutes of dwelling, both products are then rinsed away. It was then time for the contact wash using the acid leaning Carpro Descale, which will then target the mineral deposits left by the water spots. I foamed this directly onto the paint as usual.

After the wash and a thorough rinse, sadly, the spots remained. I then attempted using Gyeon Water Spot Remover to nil effect. Even still, I went ahead and treated each panel with the product, there is evidence to suggest that removal of the minerals that caused the spots to be an important step regardless of the visual results.

So, despite a thorough decontamination, that meant the only way forward was to progress from chemical decontamination to mechanical decontamination..........................or polishing.

I have to say, this was pretty disappointing because the coating was still performing extremely well, especially after the decon wash. But there was no other way, polishing was needed to remove the water spots.......................removing the coating in the process.

I started with a relatively mild combination of Carpro Reflect on a blue "intermediate" Shine Mate pad. Two passes with this combo cleared everything up, removing the water spots and delivering a wonderful glossy surface in the process. The soft Japanese paint was a factor here and meant that I got around the car pretty quickly.

At this point I want to highlight how good Carpro Reflect is. This is considered a finishing polish, designed to remove light imperfections and leave a high gloss finish. What I love most is that it produces absolutely NO dust and has a wipe off that is as easy as it gets. In comparison, something like Sonax Perfect Finish produces light to medium dusting and an oily feel during the wipe off.

Now, with the paint restored to a spot free finish, and after a heavy wipe down with Eraser, it was then time to reapply some protection. Again, Can Coat was the choice for the ease of application. This one bottle of product has now coated three vehicles and will probably coat another two or three. I also decided to apply this to the glass as I was out of Quick View.

No rain is predicted in the next 24 hours, but I still applied a light coat of Gyeon Cure to be safe. This also adds some slickness missing from Can Coat.

To finish off the exterior, I wiped the door jambs with P&S Epic, gave the engine bay a quick wipe with Carpro ECH20, applied Carpro Darkside to the tyres and wiped the wheels with Bead Maker.

The interior didn't need much, a vacuum being the starting point. I coated the floor mats with 303 Fabric Guard and cleaned the leather with Bowden's Leather Love. Interior glass cleaned with Invisible Glass.

The rest of the interior was wiped with a new product, DIY Detail Interior Clean & Protect.

Interior Clean & Protect offers light cleaning ability combined with some UV protection. This wipes on nicely and dried to a matte finish. Smells good too.

With that, this Mazda was back to spec....................

I have also included another bottle of Gyeon Bathe, P&S Bead Maker, P&S Express and some ONR mixed at 16:1 for future maintenance.........................and DO NOT park next to sprinklers instructions! :bat:
