Sorry, we're closed

More and more small businesses are closing. The amount of time and effort vs reward just isn't there. The way things are going multimegacorp stores and food places will be all that exist.

Also today:

I ordered new appliances from Costco. They came and installed last week but team that dropped off didn’t install (removal what I really need). Another team was suppose to come in install take the old.

No call a week later. I call in and seems they don’t have any contractors that can hook up and remove a dishwasher! This is Costco and I live 30 mins from there HQ in a major market.

They offer me $200 credit to get it done. I don’t know if they checked anyones labor rates lately but $200 doesn’t cut it.

I’m usually mello and I work retail and get it most of the time but went full Karen. Talk to a manager please.

She can’t believe we don’t have hook up available and checked and the company they used is booked out for months?

I told her I get it and if you woulda told me when I bought it then that wait woulda been my fault. Credit me the $200 and come pick this thing up.

Anyways finally the agreed to pay what it cost to get it hooked I’m supposed to send the bill in.

This Costco and they got labor issues?!? We’re Fu€T my friends.

I can see from this thread there are a lot more on here my age!

I was raised to be self reliant at an early age. I will say I wasn't FORCED to be self supporting but more encouraged...persuaded that way. AND, there was work at home to do also. Chopping firewood with Dad all day Saturday's. Working with dad putting a porch on one side of the house and a deck on the other. Raking leaves from the yard in the fall, mowing all summer. I had jobs from the age of 13/14 until retirement in 2013. Sure, time off for college (and I worked then too) but I am now enjoying a very comfortable retirement.

Even now...a successful detailing business cus I'm STILL working. Because it's just what you do!

Part of the problem today is you have millienials who were never raised that way having children.

My lawyer encouraged me to go until it wasn't feasible. Hopefully you make it. I have customers who haven't turned a profit in 3 years.

Happening to a lot of small businesses unfortunately. It will keep getting worse before it gets better (if it ever does at all). I have a really bad feeling about 2023/24.

Maybe small businesses should hire Hunter as a consultant. New business would probably outpace Joey's inflation.

I hate to refer back to the fried chicken joint (I eat there alot) but most times I will call in my order. It's not uncommon for the phone to ring 20 times before someone answers. When I get there sometimes there will only be a handful of customers and 15 employees. Makes me wonder what the hell is going on back there in the kitchen. Another thing that bothers me is how slow young people move. They must all be on some sort of medication

We have two 20 somethings at work and they spend a lot of time on their phones and locked in the bathroom hiding, so they can be with their phones in private. It's really annoying. They're trying though. One of them does ppf installs, and this Friday is his last day, unfortunately. The other is the boss' understudy. I have faith he'll do ok with some coaching. He grew up in a well to do household buy craves coaching from strong men. His dad was always away working, so he was mostly raised by his sjw mom, which he rebeled against.

Yup... It's called "Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter".

The three most nutritious things a young mind needs to keep focus on the jobs they are paid to do.........

Ours are also on instagram.

If it ain't happening already it will......20 somethin goes into a job interview and in the middle of it, says to the future employer.
"Wait.....I gotta watch this TikTok video....all the while laughing as they watch it......

My friend that runs the fried chicken joint that I frequent was telling me that employees just don't show up for work if better plans pop up. They'll show up the next scheduled time and act like nothing happened. They don't even bother calling with bogus excuses. It's so hard to find workers he has to put up with it. He pays $20 per hour but they want more. There is only so much money that a fried chicken joint can make before it's not worth it.
I am so piseed off over this. Glad to hear it's not only happening here
You should work there!!!! lol.

I hired and fired the last 11 years before I retired from the state court system and actually had a youngster pull their phone out twice to read and answer a text during their interview

They did it on the fly as the interview was progressing which was actually pretty impressive as it demonstrated their multitasking skills but I considered it about the rudest thing to happen to me in a decade and although I concluded the interview it goes without saying they didn't get the job

The icing on the cake?

They grieved my hiring decision with HR and I had to defend my decision to the HR manager in a formal hearing
