what's the last car care/detailing video you've just watched?

OPT published this video a few months ago showing the latest v5 ONR vs what looks to be P&S Absolute -

I've gotta admit I've never heard of ONR pulling down dirt more than any other product

If I recall, I complained about that video on the OPT forum, at the time--I think they used some ridiculously low dilution ratio (way more product than they recommend for washing), and I'm not sure exactly what it proves because it looked like Tennessee dirt that they dug up outside the plant, not what's on my car.

I appreciate Brian taking one for the time. There’s no way this stuff will enter my arsenal. By the time the pods are fully dissolved I would be halfway done with the wash using my current method of utilizing proportioner bottles. How hard is it to measure soap?

[Griot's Car Wash Pods video]

Griots has changed in the last decade or so, I think when Brownie came on (is he still there?) was when they started to focus more on the prosumer market vs. the "I've got more money than sense" clientele that seemed to be their customer base way back. I can definitely see one of my McMansion neighbors deciding it's too hard to measure soap so I'll buy pods, not that any of them would ever wash their car.

I could see if the pods dissolved in seconds like an Alka Seltzer but they just kind of sat there, especially in the foam cannon. It’s literally like watching paint dry. It’s supposed to be convenient but it’s missing the convenience factor.

A youtuber did a test at the 256:1 dilution ratio with a some dirt on a microfiber and ONR didn't fare too well. Although far from perfect I would consider that to be a more valid comparison.

Eddie can be amusing, but IIRC that test didn't exactly peg the science meter for me, either. And I'm not sure I trust him based on who's sponsoring him any given month...plus he's taken to posting videos titled "is the the worst [insert product class]? watch to the end to find out".

Some companies are also using him for product testing so he has a leg-up on product usage as well. Something to be said for testing 15 iterations to learn the ins & outs of the products he's reviewing.

And yes, he's got a discount code just about everywhere - like so many do so there's plenty of sponsorship going on.

I share the same sentiments. I find his hysterics a bit too much for my liking.

There must be balance in the Force. With Pan’s videos always referring to everything as the best, there must be a foil. They’re the yin and yang of YT detailing.

Yeah, but all the reviews seem to be "this product is good, checks all the boxes". It reminds me of a mattress review website I was looking at once, and they had a gazillion mattresses, but there weren't really any "reviews", it was just lists of "best mattress for side sleepers", "best mattress for belly sleepers", "best mattress for hot sleepers" etc. etc., so no mattress was ever really better or worse than any other, and all of them seemed to be on some list--along with links to places you could buy them.

That seems like what Eddie does, and maybe it's just because there are a lot of good products, but the only product he seemed to not like was that one coating, and even when he does a top 5, he does it again in a month, so if you send him a product, it will always be getting a positive review.

He does plenty of "best" vids also, the whole YouTube thing is...oh, don't get me started.

Honestly, if I had a channel, I'd have alot of "best" because there's alot a good stuff out there right now

-Gyeon ECO wash
-Labocosmetica Idrosave
-DIY Detail RW

That said, I'll always have CarPro Ech2o...why, because it's AWESOME, it truely is and it's this whole "Johny Come Lately" syndrome, I'm apart of the problem myself

Sometimes you've gotta "just try it" but certain brands, based off of their reps (Gyeon, CarPro, Griot's, DIY Detail) don't have to twist my arm

What's the process? Have you tried Griot's Garage Brillant Shine rinseless yet?

Yeah it’s been over a year. Gave it to a friend. Not that I didn’t like it but wanted him to have something nice to wash his car.

Just didn’t really like content from Ivan or Hawks detail dude. Also didn’t see much difference from Mckee’s to there rinseless. Lastly just the fact that they give you 16oz of rinseless for same price most do 32oz.

I saw some youtuber detailing influencers saying that foaming has changed the detaling world. Foaming has been around for years and from what I can see except for more "potent" stripper foams nothting has really changed except marketing. It seems to leave the bonded film on lower panels but unless it is very potent. Then your LSP can be compromised. The pressure washer itself contributes to the bonded dirt.

High solids ceramic coatings are all the rage and are much more chemically resistant than polymer based LSPs of the past, which has led to companies creating stronger soaps to maintain them. The idea is to use a "pre wash" that is usually higher up on the ph scale to start to break down the grime so it is easier to remove when you go in for the contact wash. Apparently the Europeans have been doing it this was for quite some time now.

Back in the day the Valugard ABC system was used to strip old remnants of LSPs and remove contaminants in order to prep the paint for application of a new LSP. Now companies are coming out with a "3 ph system" of soaps (acid, alkaline, neutral) to maintain your ceramic coating.

Bilt Hamber AutoFoam and Touchless is “potent” but safe for most waxes, sealants and coatings. Products not marketed in US and work extremely well.

It has been out for a while but newer to US market.
