Why do my micro's repel water?

That's what I thought!

Now I have to wash every towel I own - about two dozen now - in some kind of APC. But I though this was unnecessary. The water suds up, you swirl the pads into it and POOF - the suds are gone!

I wonder if doing a load with Dawn would work? I use it on foam pads but never tried it on towels. Though it takes a LOT of Dawn to get the WGDGPS out of foam. That's why I call it the soap killer.
Well, I haven't had any problems washing all MF together(knock on wood) with Micrp-restore. :xyxthumbs:

I have the same problem with the Cobra Drying Towels. I can submerge them in a bucket of water for a few seconds and pull them out dry.

To the OP... What setting do you use on the dryer when drying a load of MF towels?

I just soaked all my newer towels that weren't as bad plus the older cobra WW ones in a bucket of DP pad cleaner and hot water, then washed with CG micro soap. We'll see how they come out tomorrow. I hang dry my towels so I don't know yet.

I did take one of the newer towels before washing them that have only been used once (with the WG sealant) and and poured a little water on it. About half of the water ran off and half was absorbed. Much better than the others so I guess they're not as contaminated. If they're better tomorrow, I'll do all the older ones too.

I've had the same problem with the Guzzler. I have to somehow get it wet by working water into it and then it starts to work a bit better...absolutely nowhere near as nice as it worked when I first purchased it. :(

do you use a detail spray or quick detailer while drying. I notice this does change the absorbing qualities and why I started using White Vinegar in rinse.

No, I don't, but I'm still under the assumption that it could simply be because of washing it with other towels that are subject to waxes/detail sprays even though I only wash with Micro-Restore.

This weekend I will be trying boiling and washing with white vinegar during the rinse cycle and will report back my findings.

Well it didn't work.

I grabbed a random towel and poured water on it and it just sat there until I tipped the towel and it ran off leaving the towel bone dry. F#@K!

I'm going to try soaking them in dawn tonight unless anyone has a better idea.

Try Oxi Clean. It works like a charm for me.

Soak in APC?

Yeah I know I was just looking for a particular type or brand.

Dawn gets WG sealant out of my pads, what about that? Will that be any problem getting out of the MF?
Dawn will work, but rinse well.

I just tried soaking in hot water with that Sal Suds stuff and then rinsing that out followed by a wash cycle with Micro Restore, followed by three rinses! I kept getting soap film on top of the rinse water. If THAT doesn't work I'm going to hand scrub them in a bucket of Dawn. I really hope I don't have to do that.

Welp I'll let ya'll know... :o

Here's the update. The first soak/wash (DP orange/ CG micro soap) did very little if anything. The second (sal suds/micro restore) made the least used towels hold some water, although reluctantly, and a lot just ran off. The third, (dawn/CG micro soap plus dawn) made the best towels like new, and the worst almost like new. All soaking/washing was done in hot water.

So I'm very relieved that I finally got my micro's back, and I've begun doing all my older towels that I had put away when the new ones arrive about a month ago, with a soak/wash with dawn/sal suds mixture. Which is actually how I've been doing my WGDGPS impregnated autogeek foam pads that I like so much. I would have gone straight to that from the beginning but I didn't know if the dawn would cause a problem with MF.

I cant really say if one method worked best or if it was just a process of repeated washings that did it a bit at a time. Although I do think that dawn was the strongest of them all, which has been my experience with cleaning the sealant out of those foam pads.

So many thanks to everyone (like rsurfer who let me know I could safely wash in dawn) and to 07 zoh-6, I'll be trying simple green after my next waxing and we'll see how it goes. :xyxthumbs:

Glad you figured it out! :dblthumb2:

In doing my old towels now that I've had for between one and two years (the others were new and just used with WGDGPS once!), I did two soaks/washes like the others with dawn and micro soap, and 4 of the 12 will absorb water now, though it take a second or two to get in, but the rest don't at all. So I tried soaking those in a gallon of hot water with 3 or 4 cups of simple green. Nothing. No change at all. It's like pouring water on a plastic bag.

The only thing left that I can think of is soaking them in straight dawn with just a tiny amount of water. Work the dawn soap into each towel, let it sit and then wash in a small load of hot water to keep the mixture concentrated. I just hope it'll eventually come out.

Or maybe I should do that with all the soaps mixed together super concentrated... DP citrus, Pinnacle, Micro Restore, Dawn, CG Micro soap, and who knows maybe I should throw in some Gojo hand cleaner too! :bat:

Did you ever try boiling them or did you only use hot water?
