Can anything clean these wheels?

Aw, come on! Meguiar's has been selling this stuff for years and if it was 10% as dangerous as you claim, Barry Meguair would be phoning in "car Crazy" from Lompoc Federal Prison and no common carrier would ship it. The Autogeek warehouse has gallons and gallons of this stuff in the regular plastic Detailer Line jugs. The ones that leak when shipped. How come nobody's dead?

A respirator? Oh yeah, sure. Every professional detailer and dealer detailer has a full blown respirator in his detailing arsenal.

Wheel Brightner is no more dangerous than plenty of other household chemicals, including Drano and EZ Off Oven cleaner.

If your I.Q. is bigger than your shoe size, you'll manage just fine.

Gonna have to agree on this one. Although I do feel you're coming across a bit aggressive considering the topic. But, regardless. For some reason people like to make wheel acid sound like the stuff from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" that you dipped the toons in, ha.

The stuff is not that dangerous. Just don't spread it on your sandwich, or try to make a bubble bath out of it...and you're good.

I completely understand this and I think this is what causes the black shading in the corners, but the black streaks and runs were not there when I bought the wheels.

I wouldn't think that the streaks would happen over time behind the paint correct?

I wouldn't think so. But, I have seen these runs before many times. Why they're there...I have no clue. They drive ya nuts...and I really think there's no way to solve the problem except to respray them.

Of course you can keep buying products, and trying to get rid of it...but I honestly think you'd be wasting money and time. I've tried to remedy this problem various times. Especially cause I don't want a customer thinking I did it. Nothing has worked for me. I've even looked at it with a magnifying glass!! That's when I came to the conclusion that the factory spray just was done poorly.

I'm shocked I haven't seen anyone post this, use meg's ultimate compound it's one of the best you can use by hand, if that doesn't take it off nothing will, like mentioned before might be poorly painted, but usually a compound works wonders on painted rims

Megs compound might work if the defect you're seeing is topical and even if it's penetrated to some degree into the top layer of clear. A little rubbing with it should tell you real fast.

That is an idea. I have some Meguiars scratch x. Isn't that one level stronger than the ultimate compound? If so, I will try the scratch X on the area in the 1st picture tonight and report back.

Thanks to everyone to all of the excellent suggestions!

Ultimate Compound is the strongest compound in the Consumer Line. The new ScratchX is a lot more effective then the previous few versions, the difference is they switched to SMAT instead of DAT

Sounds like some very good first hand, real-world experience. It will be interesting to see what the OP is able to do, could be as you say... there is no fix.

I do not want to spend too much trying to clean because I could trade these wheels and $200 for a set of chrome FJ cruiser wheels. But, I do like these Sequoia wheels better on my Tacoma.

Thanks

If you can't fix them this sounds like a great option, if for no other reason because chrome is easier to clean and maintain and is impervious to most cleaning products that the majority of us has access to...

Thanks Mike and Kristopher and everyone else for the input! I will try the scratch X 2.0 tonight which I already own. (Mike - If the scratch X doesn't work, should I try the ultimate compound?) I am torn on which to to try - Sonax Full Effect or The Wheel Brightener? They both seem to be acidic, but I can't seem to determine which one is more powerful from reading reviews? The nice thing about the Sonax is it comes in a spray bottle and seems to be designed for consumer use. But, if the Megs is that much better I would gladly purchase it and a spray bottle and try it.

Worst case, I double confirm what Kristopher has already seen and I am out another $20 to take one last shot at cleaning these wheels and I will get the barrels cleaner than ever!

I will post my results with Pictures as I go.

Thanks

Whoa XB70 just calm it down a bit, no need to explode over this buddy.

For the op, I would say Megs WB is the choice for you. If you want to make sure you give it the best shot you can and not be wondering if another wheel cleaner might remove it, then wheel brighter would cover all bases.

Just be careful using it

IF ScratchX 2.0 and a little passion behind the pad isn't fixing the problem then it's unlikely that Ultimate Compound will either.

The staining is either topical or possibly it's penetrated a little into the layer of clear paint. I've been told the paint used on wheels is harder, more corrosion resistant than the type of clear used on body panels so staining "into" this layer of paint is going to be more difficult. Thus the stain you're seeing is probably just on the surface, that is topical.

If a little rubbing doesn't fix the problem, and a little more rubbing isn't making a dent in it appearance-wise, then probably more rubbing with a more aggressive product isn't going to work either.

If rubbing a hand applied paint cleaner or compound to the surface doesn't have any affect, my guess is that spraying on a wheel cleaner won't fix it either.

The thing is, you don't use a brush like EZ or Daytona to clean your oven or toilet. It can splatter and injure your eyes and even burn your skin.

I actually use Britemax to fertilize my lawn. Also Britemax turned my 27 Inch tube television into a 70 inch LCD tv! I love you Britemax :dblthumb2:

Oh man, guess I'll have to find something else for those applications. Guess I'll go back to the Easy Off bubble baths. Just doesn't leave my skin as silky smooth as WB. :D

TL <-- gonna miss those PB & WB sammiches

So will Britemax fix my wheel problem? :)

I tried the sctratch X 2.0. It did not remove any of the black stripes or stains you see in the 1st picture. I will probably get some WB just to get a deep cleaning on the barrels, but I am beginning to realize that these stains or paint imperfections are not going anywhere :(

Thanks

Size doesn't matter... I read it in Cosmo so it must be true. I do believe it was also recommended to use WB or Britemax as a Tammy Faye makeup remover.
