There are 2 - 500 Watt lights. Got them from Lowes: Shop Utilitech 500-Watt Halogen Stand Work Light at Lowes.com

I have worked in manufacturing for over 20 years and am very accustomed to the various ways men react to the uncertainty that comes with a girl entering their world. These type comments are very rarely meant to be offensive. At least I never take them that way.

...except for Porsche Pilot, but he's just jealous :poke:

"...except for Porsche Pilot, but he's just jealous"

You caught me...lol. To make it up to you I will give you the honor and pleasure of buying the first bottle of wine next weekend.

Great job, Laura!

Working on a jet black BMW is never easy. Most of these cars suffer from the Mercedes-Benz Syndrome, where the owners need to keep their expensive car clean, of course due to their image, and "wash it twice a week", but never clean it correctly and end up with a thrashed mess of a black car that looks nowhere near as good as they think it does.

In the future, if you get to freshen the car up again, try some 3M Ultrafina. It does a great job even on the PC with a black pad at high speed, should be a "one-step" and make it much quicker.

If you get to work on another car this bad, Surbuf and M105 will make things go quick.

You did an amazing job with the polishes at hand! Perseverance is the key to excellent detailing IMO.

BTW, your hands look much better than mine after working 24 hours on a car!

I swore against black cars too. I have 2 now. Nothing looks better that a perfectly polished balck car. Stick with it! My DD is black and it SHINES
LOL, I agree that black does look the best BUT I simply don't have the time to properly maintain it like I used to.

i hate to say this, I have a black 330xi that looks just like this, one of the reasons I just signed up for this site. I am starting to understand I understand noting nor have I. Nice writeup and thanks for the insight,

I'm a newbie and this was really inspiring. I've just purchased a 2002 BMW 325 and while it's in OK shape, I'm going for your level of results you had on the 550. Thanks!

great job on the bmw !! very impressive !
i dont think that he was being sexist with the "hun" comment. i looked at it as a term of endearment. but what do i know

I was a newbie here as well when I first noticed this thread. Laura's hard work really insprired me as well. Not only is she a hard worker, as this thread is proof, she's a really nice person. I've had the pleasure of sharing a few pm's with her. She's good at what she does and special in more ways than one...very personable and caring.

Bump again for a great thread.

Nice job! My girlfriend would agree with you on lesson #7, ha. She tells me all the time I need to get regular manicures....I laugh, lol.

Wow! great job! loved the 50/50 shots!!

I agree regarding teaching buffing! Its hell lol! :D

My guard guy once saw me polishing and came over and said that it was easy and he could do it! So I gave him a DA with a black pad and CG ez creme glaze 2 on it, as I thought it couldn't do any damage!

I instructed him on how to go about it and once he started the machine, he went crazy! bumped it up to speed 6!!! I was like "we aint polishing man!" and his arm speed, really fast to be any good!(+ instead of working in a small section, he was all over the place!)

I took it off his hands instantly lol

Instead of teaching someone how to buff...I always enjoy just straight up handing them the buffer. But first, I make sure they talk some trash about how easy it is. Then I have a sick joy out of watching them fail, haha.

I don't even try to teach. I know I'm a bad teacher. I got NO patience, lol.

Haha!! I'd love to hand a rotary to a noob guy, who says its easy just by looking at it and enjoy the show!lol but not on my car!

Thanks again for all of the kind comments. I see this car periodically and am happy to say it's still in very good shape. There are some swirls, but it's better than 95% of what else is on the road. There is such great satisfaction in seeing the owner take care of the car after you get it shinning; makes all the work worthwhile!

This was exactly what happened to me...except my guy had the most aggressive pad & compound combo and was going to town on my friend's black BMW! I was freaking out inside.

I have been astounded by the posts and PMs that this thread has generated. I've been humbled and honored that something I have done could inspire others. In all honesty, the whole experience made me truly appreciate the special gift that Mike Phillips has. Rarely do you find someone who is an excellent craftsman AND an excellent instructor. Mike is that and so much more. He is my inspiration and the reason I was able to do what I did with that BMW.

DAMN!!!! Thats a heck of a correction!!! good job!!!
