well about a month a go i ordered the pcxp hd model Porter Cable 7424 pad kit, porter cable accessories kit, porter cable polisher kit and i know its my fault for not doing the research on the forum first but im reading alot about the pcxp bc i haven't had very good results with it. come to find out that it doesn't work very well with the 6.5inch pads that came with it. and along with that i see that for 6.5in pads you should use a 6in backing plate. Well i spent 300$ on this kit and have been kicking myself ever since bc not only did i get the 6.5in pads it came with a 5in bp. Now dont get me wrong i absolutely love autogeek and will always buy my products from them for there great customer service and fast shipping not to mention the great offers they have. But just thinking that autogeek being one of the leaders in detailing that they would bundles there kits a lil better. now the two red 5.5in pads that came with it for free are great for wax/sealant but thats the only thing im able to use it for. now i have 8 6.5inch pads that are almost worthless to me. i guess i'll be putting my order in soon for 5.5in pads. Sorry again guys for my rant and i really hope i dont make any enemies by posting this bc again i know its my fault for not doing the research before hand.

I do feel your pain. Perhaps you can trade them for something of value to you here.

I feel your pain as well, I did exactly the same thing you did when I first started off with the PC kit. Recently I realized it was a great excuse to get the Flex 3401 to use with the larger pads and all was right in the world. :)

I just looked at that kit and that doesn't make much sense to put all those 6.5 pads with a 5 BP. If I were you I would call Meghan, it could be an oversight that they are not aware of. She might trade out your pads or BP, it's worth a shot. The customer service here is the tops.

When I got mine, I had done the research, seen the posts from other members and seen the Mike Philips videos that talk about the pads.

Why does AG sell the kit with the 6" pads any way? When it is mentioned time and time again that 5.5 are probably the largest you should use.

I'd like to see the kits changed myself, even thou I have a 7434xp already (and got pads separate)

They have been doing that for a while, and I also never really understood that. A inch and a half overhang is a lot and causes more wear/tear on the pad. let alone it boggs down the machine.

Sounds like the slogan: Don't change your pads, change your polisher.

ok well now i dont feel so bad bc im not the only one that did this. And i do agree that there customer service is the best ive ever experienced regardless of what i'm buying and from who autogeek is the best hands down. But i really didn't think there was anything to do but suck it up bc it was over about a month ago and the pads have been open. granted i've only have used an orange and white pad.

i agree there is so much over hang and even if i just use the weight of the polisher and one hand it still wont spin i have to actually lift up on the polisher so that the pads do spin

Thought about that myself when I joined and read up on what the members, pro detailers, and Mike had to say. Seeing how its a unanimous decision that the 5.5 pads with a 5inch BP is the way to go with the PC DA for paint corrections... But then you think about it as a business side and I'm sure AG orders up quite a bit of 6inch pads for the other guys but at the sometime to move the back stock bundle them in kits.

Also when I purchased my PC it came with a 6inch BP stock.

I have been using 6.5 inch pads for years with the old 7424 and have had nothing but great results. I do have the 6" backing plate for them though

:iagree: Technique is just as important as the tools you're working with. Are you on speed 6? Is the pad completely flat? Could you be over-saturating the pad with product? Have you marked the backing plate with a line to ensure the pad is rotating?

While the PCXP is able to turn the 5.5" pads more easily, it can still correct with 6.5" pads.

I think this was mentioned a few weeks ago. I wish they would at least give the option to have 5.5" pads. Seems kinda silly that they offer the kit with an inferior product when dealing w/ a D.A.

yes i agree 100% that technique is just as important as the tools your working with. Yes i have tried speed 6 and have marked my backing pad. And as far as to much product theres no way i always prep my pad the way mike has instructed on his vids either with product but mostly with pad conditioner and only using my normal amount of product (2 or 3 pea size drops on the pad) sometimes the x pattern but most of the time pea size drops

I hear you on that one man. I bought my PC kit with the Megs combo and it came with a 5" backplate, and 7.5" pads. Still to this day I have not used those pads cause they're worthless on the PC, especially with that back plate.

Basically I bought the kit, then had to go right ahead and buy the 5.5" pads immediately and waste the ones the kit came with. It is kind of annoying, ha.

:iagree: O man i was pumped once i put my order in for my pc and even let my clients know that i was getting a new polisher and will be adding a new service. even before i got the pc in i had 15 clients wanting the new service and then get everything in and hit the road and just kept getting frustrated with the results and its not like im new to a DA but man did i feel like a newbe once i saw that its a 5in BP with 6.5in pads haha again my fault should of just ordered everything separate

Sounds like you're on the right path. What kind of paint are you working on? Also, what polish and pad type are you using? Finally, when you say, "I haven't had very good results with it", what exactly do you mean? Are you not getting the amount of correction you would like or is there marring after polishing, etc.?

Why would they even assemble a kit with 6.5" pads and a 5" BP?

mostly im working on newer paint (Lexus,Porsche,Bmw,Maserati, mercedes) have a lot of clients with high end cars but also your ford dodge and Hondas never single stage paint. ive used DA before and think im pretty good with one. name the color pad and ive tryed it. havent had really any marring but mostly not getting the correction i want. i mean i was using a cheap orbiter polisher from autozone with mf bonnets and getting better results. also i mostly use the wolfgang twins also m105 an m205

It will correct ok with the 6.5" pads, just not connected to a 5" BP. That is the issue. Sell a 5" bp with 5.5" pads and a 6"bp with 6.5" pads, not a 5" bp with 6.5" pads.
