I am looking at the hydro tech 5.5 x 1.25 and 7/8 pads.

What is the difference between the two different 'thicknesses'? What is better? Is one better than the other for certain applications?

Thanks in advance!

I have never used HT pads. As a generalization though, the thinner pads should cut faster. More energy is lost in thicker pads. Picture a 6 in thick pad. A lot of the power of the machine would be lost in the twisting and compression of the pad vs a 1 in pad that is tight and efficient.

Obviously, the difference would not be as dramatic between 7/8 and 1.25 inch pads. The principle, however, should still apply.

Scott,

I have more stuff than I could use in my lifetime! So I would love to let you try out anything you would like to :xyxthumbs:

I would recommend the thin profile 5.5" pads for most D/A's especially the Porter Cable 7424xp. Honestly the larger and thicker pads will take longer to do correction and just don't stay rotating as easily. The Griots has more power and of course the Flex 3401 is a powerhouse and will not quit rotating with thicker pads.

You are welcome to try any of my Lake Country foam or Meguiars D/A pads with my Griot's machine and I also have a Flex PE14 rotary that is an awesome machine as well.

Scott,

Along with Buddy's offer, you can try anything I have as well.
