How'd you come to the conclusion that someone is paying them off?
Group III oil is technically synthetic and all major oil companies that make synthetics use a mixture of different groups. I am not saying that Mobil is the best but they own the synthetic market, easily surpassing the sales of all competitors. Pennzoil's most recent high-end synthetic, Ultra, is also primarily Group III, and, yes, that's the one that goes into Ferraris.
I use a Napa Gold Filter (Wix) & Valvoline.
Its a very subjective thing to talk about. Oils these days are sythetic and more durable than they were years ago. I tend to change my oil every 500 miles...but im a freak. I cant stand the thought of waiting 2000 miles or more....and it only costs like $20-30 dollars if you do it yourself....so i tend to overchange on the safe side....plus I love that little boost in power with fresh oil!!
My 01 TDi gets changed at the factory recommended OCI of 10K and it now has 204k and it has no signs of any engine wear (cams look good, needs no make up oil in the 10k OCI, makes no unusual engine noises, fuel mileage has not fallen off).My VW Jetta TDI Daily driver Gets changed every 5,000 miles full synthetic. VW says Every 10,000 is recommended, as a matter of fact they give you free service when you buy one for the first 36,ooo miles @ 10,000 mile intervals of course ...... NOT! Way to long if you ask me. Wifes car that gets driven maybe 6-7,000 miles per year gets fresh oil every 6 months full synthetic. :buffing:
