Not sure about Duragloss #501?

my white pads will look like that after using KAIO following wash, clay and iron x

the difference is in the protection. KAIO leaves behind much less than DG501.

My theory is that since KAIO is the base for KSG, it can't be as bulletproof as a true lsp or the KSG won't stick to it.


Here is my dirty white pad after KAIO during my winter prep a couple weeks ago:

Here are some pics from iron x testing I did this summer. upper right panel just had KAIO applied by hand, lower right panel was clayed, then DG501 applied by hand.

this is a pic of the panels after iron x was applied, allowed to dwell, agitated, then rinsed off. You can see the beading on the square where the DG501 was applied. The KAIO square had no beading which tells me that the protection it laid down was stripped by the iron x.

I honestly don't know, I always top it with Duragloss #105 Total Performance Polish

Richard, you are the one using DG501as a stand alone LSP, aren't you? How much product do you apply on the pad before working a section? How big (or small) is your section? How many passes do you make per section? I only used it once. It really cleans well and leaves a slick surface, but I can adjust on my methods next time that I am throwing these questions.

I think Sal is the one who uses it as a standalone. When I'm just cleaning the paint I use 4 very small drops and work an entire panel, very light pressure. I made 4 passes last night - 2 in one direction and 2 in the opposite direction. I work the entire car before wiping off any residue. Keep in mind that I pre-mix my Duragloss polishes before starting, 1 part Duragloss 601 Polish Bonding Agent : 4 parts Duragloss polish (105/111/501). The paint will be slick right away but the next day it takes on a silky feeling.

Many here rave about the performance of Duragloss 501 and after looking at that photo I have to completely agree, the finish looks bright and wet!! rops:

BobbyG, it's a great product and I thank Richy and JL for introducing me to it. In fact, Richy is the reason I found Duragloss products. rops: If you want a sample before you buy a whole bottle just let me know, I'd be happy to send you some. You're right about how it leaves the surface, I'm amazed everytime I use it.

I try . Not sure if I have any before pictures or not? I got started at 7 last night and being a newer car I'm not sure I even worried about snapping any. I'll have to check my camera because I don't have any on my phone.

Are we talking about 501 or 105? Isn't 501 for boats?

Good job Richard. We have been preaching about this product for a few years. Wait till Sparkie sees this...I think he's been using it longer than any of us!!

I wanted to take a couple pictures because you always tell people to use a white pad so you can see the cleaning power of it. I honestly didn't think the paint was going to be that dirty! Even after Iron X, Power Clean, CG CWG, and clay, it amazes me how much dirt DG 501 pulls out of paint.

Thank you for that richy. I had considered it but was concerned that the foam and the backing might separate. Is there a particular solvent that you prefer?

Also thanks for the tip on the swirl remover, I have not used it before but soon will.

Been using 601/501 then 601/105 on my boats for quite some time. Used on my white tow vehicle as well (topped with 845), Simply outstanding value and performs as well as stuff quite a bit more pricey. Have any of the DG gurus ever done a mix of 601/105/501, say 1 part 601, 2 parts 105 2 parts 501 for a one step with great protection?

Might try that soon either on the truck or the boats, truck needs a correction bad first though.

Oh and yes my pads are stained like that, little blue'r as the boats are blue gel coat. those go in the DG bag just like the white pads for Klasse AIO stay separate as well. Might try the solvent soak, would IPA suffice or something like Preps All be better?

Yea, the solvent question needs an answer. I would think though with solvent you might need to add the particulars in a how to. Thinking that depending on the solvent, the process might dissolve the adhesive holding the velcro on the foam.

Richy has tried just about every combo. I know one of his mixes, DG 601/501/Nano Polish. I believe he uses this on interior wood trim. As for the solvent, I will let Richy have that one...

Sorry for the delay in answering. What I do is soak them in an old tinfoil pie plate with the foam side down. I use Varsol which is a solvent. I think Varsol is a Canadian thing. Prep Sol should work just fine. Let it soak overnight and then wring it out and then clean with dish soap and rinse well. Spin dry, bake at 300 for 30 minutes till crispy and then enjoy with your favourite dip....just kidding on the last part of course!!

Have you ever tried 601/501/105 all mixed together? Trying for a bit more protection for my truck as I neglect the crap out of it with 3 other cars sitting in the garage.

My plan as of this minute is polish with Megs 205, follow up with 601/501/105 mix to clean up and lay a base of protection and then finish with 845. The truck sits outside in Socal and only gets a once a year restoration(rewaxed with 845 about midway thru the year), it does get DG AW every time I wash it, if she has it washed I assume they use nothing as she uses the mobile guy that comes to the office when she's pissed at me and wants to get me where it hurts!!!

Yes. They are nano diminishing abrasives. Duragloss has been using nano products before nano became the "it" word. I worked at speed 3.5 and only the weight of the machine using my Griot's Garage ROP with no intention of correction, just deep cleaning the paint before DG 601/105 x2 for winter prep.

*By products I mean the items used in their polishes

501 has been and is my favorite product. I used it the same as you described. Last detail I did use speed 4 and slight pressure like working a final polish, kinda, and it might just be me but I think I achieved slight more gloss from it. 501/601 (thanks Richy) is my favorite
I get 5 months easily with 501, I usually end up stripping it off and trying something new before the protection wears off

No, but I've mixed 601 (one part) to 2 parts 501 and 2 parts of the new Nano Beta Sealant (which is like 105 on Steroids) with great success. That should work for you well. Please let me know how it works for you; I'd like to hear.

Not anytime soon. We're in the beta testing stage with it. Durability tests for this winter are being run. This product needs to be put on with a DA. I really, really like it.
