I am feeling better, thank you FUNX725 for your concern! I am still a little congested this morning but the pounding headache, and the feeling of having vertigo has been slept away overnight. I think I can actually smell now so my appetite might be back as well lol WOO!!

New Word of the Day: 2/5/12

Emanation (em-uh-ney-shuh n)

Definition: emergence, discharge

Source: Thesaurus.com

Certain types of polishes and LSPs give off a pleasant emanation of scents from cocoanut, to fruits, and even different flavors of ice cream. Incidentally, emanation from trim treatments seem to give off a less then desired or "welcomed" scent which is ironic since LSPs are generally used on the exterior of the car where they will not be smelled vs trim treatments will generally be used on trim and dash pieces and will have to be tolerated. A gentleman on this thread a few months ago was in search of a product that did not give off such a disagreeable emanation as the current product he was using, in normal helpful fashion, AG members leapt to the help and gave him an abundance of choices to try that would be more appealing to him and his wife.

^^^^:goodpost:^^^^ Tundra_10!

I, too, have witnessed recent threads that have expressed people's concerns of "vehicle-smells" being emanated from/by: Their vehicles' Interior New-Car Smell; and/or, the Products/Chemical-Smells used to detail said interiors.

{Although many "chemical/product smells" are capable of triggering many innate allergy symptoms of mine at times, I have been 'medically-assured' that I do not suffer from MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity)}

I, for one, have no wishes to live in a fragrance-free World.
I am also not a member of any: "Think Before You Stink" activist group.

But, it seems, more often than not, that many detailing products have included fragrance-additives. This may be in order to mask/reduce/eliminate their inherent chemical-smells...The goal seemingly being to alter a user's olfactory and, (often without intention beforehand), gustatory experiences with these products.

There are instances when a person may choose and recommend a particular detailing product based on, among other things, how it "smells"..."Oh! I just love this product!! It smells just like ______ ". (fill-in the blank).

I can only imagine the chortles supervening from these detailing products' Marketing Reps, when, upon reviewing their bonus-checks while seated around the detailing-products'-"owners" boardroom tables, they also pleasurably watch the cigar-smoke emanating from the "business-end" of their: Arturo Fuente Opus X BBMF...reserved for such celebratory occasions.

^^ Its funny you mention that... that brings some curiosity to mind. I am wondering how many people feel a product "x" is superior to product "y" because it is more pleasant to use because of the scent and therefore their overall experience is more pleasant. Even though "y" might actually do a better job at hand.

I wonder if sales trends can show anything in this instance, if so, is there something companies are doing that we do not know in order to suede us into buying their products beyond the normal product hype and advertisement? hmmm!! Conspiracy anyone?? [insert Dr. Evil laugh here]

Another "nostalgic" word from my childhood. As a kid growing up I was excited by just about anything and everything that was mechanical, did something, made something happen, made noises, or simply moved. I also loved to play with old stereo amplifiers and try to make the whole house shake by hooking up several speakers to these amps, running wires here and there. I remember a lot of these old amplifiers had an "attenuation" switch on them. On one end it said 0db and the other it would usually say something like -20db. I was not too sure of what it really did, except for make my music a lot quieter so I always made sure to leave it on 0db haha.

Growing up my passion for audio equipment grew with me, when I was 16 I had a very large stereo in my car. A few years later I was selling high end audio and fine tuning and learning much much more and installing some high end stuff in my own home.

Attenuate (uh-ten-yoo-eyt)

Definition: weaken

An IPA mixture or pe-wax cleaner will attenuate the bond and sort of polishing oils or residue has on a cars body panel. Thus allowing for a clean surface to be able to apply a sealant, ensuring a strong bond.

{Someday, I hope I'll complete my "paper". }

An abstract:
Being presented in: 'Basic-outline-form'...Subject: The Sun’s UV rays and its affects on modern BC/CC OEM paint systems and Paint Coatings*. Included herein will be:
The different types of UV rays; What is attenuation; The attenuation, if any, of these UV rays provided by the: BC/CC paint systems themselves; and, The attenuation of UV rays, if any, provided by: Paint Coatings*.

Inevitably, there will be the need to discuss the distinctions (similarities, or none) between UV rays’
effects/attenuation methods/products for: Human Beings’ dermal ‘layers’; BC/CC paint system ‘layers’; as well as Paint Coatings*

This abstract’s outline below is an abridged version…It is by no means a complete representation of all the factors governing the roles played by BC/CC paint systems and Paint Coatings* in the attenuation of UV rays.

NOTE:
*For this abstract’s purpose, Paint Coatings* is a reference to, and, as known by detailers: LSP’s [waxes, sealants, “hybrids”, and: ‘The New Coatings’].

I. Types of Sun rays
A. UV-A 1,2
B. UV-B
C. UV-C
D. Visual Spectrum
E. Infra-red….Thermal
F. The role of SPF’s

II. What is Attenuation?
A. As Defined by Physics
B. As Defined by Chemistry

III. BC/CC paint systems
A. Chemical structure and surface properties
B. Role of CC paint in Attenuation
C. UV absorbers…Types for Attenuation
D. UV inhibitors…Types for Attenuation
E. Migration of UV additives
F. Water transport/absorption values of polyurethane paints

IV. Paint Coatings (LSP’s)
A. Sacrificial Barriers
B. Organic
C. Inorganic
D. UV attenuation additives
E. Degradation…Acceleration factors
F. Water absorption rates

V. Nano-Technology
A. Definitions
B. Roles In BC/CC paint systems
C. Roles in Paint Coatings (LSP”s)
D. Nano: zinc oxide/titanium dioxide; silica
E. Anti-aging properties

I enjoy researching for some of the "hidden clues" in the Detail World.....
Some of this may be of interest to you, maybe to others as well. Then again, maybe not.

Haggard (hag-erd)

Definition: worn, weakened

Source: Thesaurus.com

The haggard detailer worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for years on end to grow his business as his success became an obsession. He totally lost sight of what success meant and placed a dollar amount and a particular "social status" in its place. After all those years, he had a busy and lucrative business to show for it, but no one to share his glory with.

I've seen many a tired, worn-out, workaholics in my life-time, including, sadly, the: Face in the Mirror!!

And speaking of haggard...

When younger, I remember a guy down the road, from Mom&Dad's house, that always looked exhausted...I thought from too many hours at work to support his family, like my Dad did...Dad said no, he's probably not getting enough sleep from staying out all night at the honky-tonks. (Mom had no comment as to how Dad knew this.)

Yet, it seemed He always had the time for a bunch of company over at his house every weekend. There was a never-ending stream of loud music, along with a lot of hoopin' and hollerin' going on.

My favorite thing he did was that he announced the arrival of each guest in a deep voice that I bet could be heard over at the County Seat.
For instance He'd yell out: "Hey looky there...Here comes Ol' Johnny, Willie, George, Tom T., and Minnie Pearl".
They'd all holler back: "Hey there Johnny...Where's your best pal Merle?"!!

:D

Chatoyant (shuh-toi-uh' nt)

Definition:
1. Changing in luster or color: chatoyant silk
2. Jewelry. reflecting a single streak of light when cut in a cabochon

The detailers work had a chatoyant effect on the paint as it went from a dull grayish color to a deep, wet-looking black that shimmered and sparkled because of the light reflecting off of the previously masked metallic flakes.

-IMO...There can also be an analogy drawn between a:

Cantankerous (kan-tang-ker-uhs)

Definition: difficult, crabby

Source:Thesaurus.com

Although the hard clear coat of a corvette can me cantankerous to work with, it prevents the paint from being easily damaged unlike other cars thinner clear coats.

A girl I work with is very cantankerous, she is oblivious as to why she does not get promotions and finds it easier to be negative, point fingers, and make bad assumptions as to why others advance before her.
