New Word of the Day

Give me a few minutes to upload a few iPhone photos of a 90's model Buick (hard clear-former county vehicle pool) maintenance customer.

buick - AutogeekOnline Gallery

Also my test bed.
When I first quoted this car last fall, my plan was to turn it down...but $$$ is green and steady.

Maybe my new postulate should be grime layer/lack of maint. protects hard cc film.

Radiance: Bing dictionary -

1. Happiness or energy
2. Light
3. Measure of radiant energy

The radiance of light reflecting from the Airstream pales in comparison to that of the radiant demeanor exemplified by the detailer's posts here at AGO.

CHI

Definition:
1. Term for the universal energy: (Chinese medicine)
-a. The energy inside your body
-b. The energy that permeates everything around us#

2. "The Chi-Lites": A popular 'Soul-Group' that was
originally based in Chicago

...messed up my chi

Mike (Tundra_10)...
These were a couple of The Chi-Lites songs that
I really liked back in the early '70's, as well as now.

They are not intended as to offend...Nay!
Only as entertainment, from a very 'soulful-group'.

PS...Notice how the lead singer's looks have change
over the years...but not his voice!

I didn't attend parochial schools, but my behind came into contact
with the business-end of an "Ash-Smasher" on several occasions.
I fondly remember the teachers praying to the Good Lord above for strength,
while trying to beat me senseless with a big wooden paddle full of holes!! (<<<I believe it worked! LOL)

Awesome group. Their songs have been covered by many artists, and bring back many memories. I remember seeing them on American Bandstand and SoulTrain.
In Vegas, I had a good friend from Chi Town that was extremely fond of their tunes...RIP Roy.

OAN, I only visited the paddle once. Caught smoking in the bathroom in the 7th grade...didn't pick up another cigarette until after high school.

Well said, Bob.

OAN, I have a cousin that's in Ft. Wayne at the moment headed this way for an estimate on his Century Class. Should be here by dark thirty. :)

The weather in Ohio is very nice today...no storms...

Haven't seen the forecast today, but it is raining here.
10 day forecast - Bing Weather

This week has been a bust, even though we have had some hot sunny daytimes.
The vehicle in question is a company truck w/10 aluminum rims (6 outside), on a regular Nebraska to Elkton, Md. haul.

Unlike the cousin with the 600 series Volvo, this hand is one of the SC customers (Mazda P/U) and will eventually agree to service.

Occam's-Razor

Definition:
1. Occam's (or Ockham's)-Razor is: a principle attributed to William of Ockham (c. 1287–1347),
a Logician and Franciscan Friar...Born in Ockham, a village in the English county of Surrey.

2. William of Ockham's particular way of explaining/stating: "The Principle of Economy" (parsimony)…Which was:

3. "Entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily."

But it appears this principle: "Economy in the use of means, to achieve something…"

-Goes back to at least Aristotle who taught:
"Nature operates in the shortest way possible."

-Later, Isaac Newton stated this principle as:
"We are to admit no more causes of natural things than such as are both true and sufficient to explain their appearances."

-Shakespeare would write of Occam's Razor: "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.".

-As Einstein originally put it:
"This is an interesting example of the fact that even scholars of audacious spirit and fine instinct,
can be obstructed in the interpretation of facts by philosophical prejudices."
(But later he changed it to):
"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."

UH OH!!! Here I go again...not being 'economical', as it were, in another one of my postings. :D

-Better than any of my seemingly interminable attempts…
This probably sums it all up:

An example of not being: “Occam's Razor-compliant (as pointed out by Mike Phillips)…

I think the opposite could be to say, I take a Rube Goldberg approach to auto detailing.

BTW VT...
Have you ever used Optimum's 'Tire Shine'? If so...have you noticed any differences between
Opti-Bond's and Tire Shine's: (One-coat application)---dried and/or cured---"sheen"? Thanks.

:)

Bob[/QUOTE]

Still have approx. 1/2 hour for it to cure before wiping off excess. Used a celluose sponge applicator.

I will say that @ $35.99 gal. (pre 15% off sale price), it's cheaper than AmorAll, applies easier (as in even coverage) and has a higher luster.

As opposed to AutoMagic Cool Blue, looks like one thin coat of OTS walks the dog.

As opposed to OOB @50/50, will have to wait until it cures. As it stands now, OTS gets me where I want to be quicker.

Will let you know after it cures.

For 07.23.2012's "new word of the day":

Tackiness

Definition:
1. Adhesive/Gummy/glueyness to the touch
2. Sticky
3. Viscid
4. Neglected, and in a state of disrepair
5. Lacking style or good taste; tawdry
6. Distasteful or offensive

Ago forum member rock01234 brought up some interesting questions in this thread-starter:

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/off-topic/53169-serious-question-not-sure-if-dumb-not.html

-One issue/characteristic of waxes/sealants, that I see, could be: (along with their few millionths of an inch 'thickness')
Their affinity to obtain a level/degree of tackiness [Can we call it a: 'de-polymerization' (<<if that's a word)/softening-process??)
over the course of their expected life-cycles.

(NOTE: There are ASTM testing standards for: Tackiness of "materials" like paint, waxes/sealants/coatings...
don't know how many 'manufacturers' actually have these tests ran)

-Imagine the "induced-marring", a CC paint-film might indeed suffer, whenever:
"Touching" (<<<M.P.) its tacky "sacrificial-barrier" (wax/sealant film-layer)...
even if they had the slightest iota of a contaminate stuck-atop/therein!

-Just a thought, or two.

:)

Bob

Methicones leave the suface feeling 'dry to the touch'. No tackiness or greasy feel.
Dark black look, high luster.
Awaiting durability.

-I must say, VT...
The manifestation of how a tire with a "dressing" should appear...and tack-free to boot!!
(Optimum's Tire Shine, I presume.)

-I agree that polydimethylsiloxanes are: 'The Cat's-Meow'...
for tire dressings, as well as for a host of other car-care products.

Why settle for anything less?
When products with PDMS,
Are, indeed, the very best!

:)

Bob

I was under the impression that both OPT dressings were the same, but the proof is in the pudding.

I can't say that I'm going to miss the Cool Blue, has been a staple for a long time; but it takes extra effort to get the bling w/o the sling.

As well as an excellent 'detail-example' usage thereof! :props:

-A couple of: Concepts of "Life-Change Events" (Vicissitudes, if you will) ...Immediately came to mind:

If I remember correctly (as I’m nigh on to senectitude):
In the above threads…You were faced with vicissitudes.
Yet you knew not of incertitude; not even were you: Forlorn.
From any state of disquietude, you "Took the bull by the horns"!!
Now your Life, and Business, has an infinitude of Beatitudes.
