So today I received a call from a rental car company. Asking for a qoute on around 10 cars a day and 8 shuttle buses a week. So this is a tough on considering I am not to big on the fleet thing. Any suggestions on a price per vehicle? they also noted some vehicles may need the seats removed for proper cleaning. Sorry as this is all details that i have so far waiting for a email response fro the location manager.

Thats great man! No clue what services they typically want done?!?!? I have a similar deal working out here right now but they only want a basic wipedown in and out + engine degreased..... so $40 a car is what they want to pay. Your deal may be totally different though.

Congrats on being recognized and being handed an opportunity. No advice on the $ end though. Might want to check out the acc't payables to get a good understanding on when and how the pay arrangments could affect your business.

yea the fact that they want more done tosses a wrench in the deal. But also the information might be getting passed along wrong. my orginal guess was around the $50-$75 range but not sure what a rental company is expecting.

I was called out a year or so ago to look at the Park n Fly buses and they only wanted to pay $35 a shuttle bus. That conversation ended quickly. :bolt:

Thank you. Also thanks for the heads up on the acct payables as I learned that a few years ago when taping into the aviation industry. I currently hold a account on maintaining 2 shuttle buses once a month and they stay behind lol but hey money in the bank.

We currently do a rental car companies "carpets and upholstery" for $65 a pop - maybe this helps give you a base to work off of?!?!? And Im in a similar economic area as you I believe. These types of accounts are great cause they keep the bills paid. I would love to paint correct, restore interiors completely, or work on exotics everyday - but these fleet deals are where our consistant and solid income comes from.

So you charge the $65 extra on top the $40? You are 100% correct these types of accounts can help pay bills and expand our types of businesses.

No - the 65 is for a current rental car client.... the 40 is completely separate and has not been confirmed yet - it is looking good for us though. I was told roughly 120 cars a month at 40, some may need polishing and full interiors though... price will definitely be upped for that.

Some people love these accounts, and some people hate them.

I'm on the hate side, ha. I don't like dealing with one customer who has 20 vehicles and wants to pay squat cause he has numbers. I'd rather do one vehicle at full price.

I think what you quote, really depends on your status as a business.

Are you busy without this account? If so...then your price should reflect that and just be a minimal discount if you want to give one at all. When it comes to removing the seats from every vehicle...I personally wouldn't discount, but instead say you will do the work at normal price, and not charge extra for removing seats.

Do you need the work? Then your price would most likely be low to ensure this company gives you the work, and not someone else. Money is money.

Answering the question "What should I charge?", isn't as cut and dry as it sounds.

If they called me, and wanted a "full detail" inside and out with an AIO exterior, no engine, and wanted me to remove seats...I would tell them $165 for cars, and $195 for trucks, and shuttles are by the hour.

I know people will say those prices are high. But, that's what I would get for that type of service without removing all the seats. Removing seats is time consuming! :dblthumb2:

I would guess that they only mentioned removing the seats because they probably were using a detailer who wasn't good at getting underneath the seats. Most professional detailers don't have this problem...especially with the right crevice tools. I would try to talk them into the fact that it's not necessary.

Thanks for the lengthy reply. I do stay busy and would consider myself in good status as a detailing business.

I completely agree with your logic as what you and your time are worth. I am looking at this more from the expansion side of things bringing 1 maybe 2 guys from part time help to full time as well as the expansion of another mobile vehicle.

As far as the seat thing goes not sure as to there intentions. Maybe spills under the seats etc. I would hope the current people doing the cleaning would be able to vacuum under seats.

You'd THINK they could easily clean under seats. But, my guess is that they probably had a cheap deal worked out, and the detailer was cutting corners and rushing.

That's another reason you don't want to under charge. At first you might be thinking "Man this steady work is great". Then, you get busy with your regular full paying customers...and what was considered a good thing, all the sudden is a nuisance.

From the expansion side of things. If you've got some guys who can do decent work that you can pay per vehicle to take care of the entire account all together....that's a different story. At that point you can see what the rental place wants to pay (most likely very cheap), and figure out what you can pay your guys per vehicle.

If you're going to have other guys do the work. I would work it out so that you pocket a good % of the total. Meaning, if you come to an agreement of say $85 (express detailing) per car. Pay your guys $25 a vehicle, which comes to 30% of the total. You keep 70%, and that covers product, as well as makes you some dough.

They shouldn't spend more than a couple hours on each car. That gives them about $12.50 per hour. If your guy busts out 2-3 vehicles, that's a $50-$75 pay day in 4-6 hours. To a lot of people...that's great. Like most of these accounts...you'll end up with some pieces of cake, and some rats here and there. But, once you are servicing them regularly...they'll be easy every time. At that point, one guy could probably bust out 3-4 a day in 8 hours. That gives you $340 total at most, $100 to pay your guy, $240 in your pocket...for doing NOTHING! This is how you make real money in this business. You get this going on WITH your regular work. Let your guys do the BS, ha.

Good luck! :dblthumb2:

Kris nailed it. Since we are incorporated now it is very easy to branch off subsidiary companies.... which I intend to do soon enough. B & B Detailing (for auto detailing), A Fleet Wash Company (for fleets), Aircraft Detailing Company (for RV's and buses..... kidding lol) and maybe a Bus Detailing Company ---- all subsidiaries of B & B Detailing. I can almost guarantee that the Fleet wash and aircraft companies will make MUCH more than the auto Detailing side, but the glory is in producing flawless finishes.

When you guys do these fleet jobs do the clients expect you to bring power and water? I know B&B doesn't use water so that is self explanatory.LOL;)

When it comes to electric - I always have a generator with me, but they always let me use their power.

I always have my generator and water no matter what. Just in case the customers circuit can't handle my equipment, or if there's an issue connecting to their water, etc. Any reason at all...doesn't matter, I want to be ready with backup. Never hurts to be prepared.

Just ask if you can use their power and water. Bring your backup power and water the first time, see how things go...if you don't need it for next time, then great. :dblthumb2:

When mobile - it is super important to bring everything you have! I learned that the hard way in the beginning. Extra gas and time and very frustrating to have to drive back home to grab some products. Same applies with water and electric - just in case! Or you can ask the client prior to coming and see if they have any issues with using their water or electric. I tell them that I am self contained, but if at all possible...... Never had an issue with that.
