Does your Griot's DA say PROFESSIONAL random orbital on the side?

Today, I sent back the newest unit for refund. I can open my current one and compare the DIP switch setting to others.

O.K., I removed the rear cover from my GG6: backed off a small phillips-head screw, and it slipped right off. Not a big deal, and I now can see exactly what I have to do to replace the brushes when that eventually becomes necessary.

But no DIP switches in sight anywhere. Either there aren't any or they are really well buried where I can't access them without desoldering wires and boards. Not gonna go there and I doubt anyone else will either unless they're working with a dead unit.

Maybe you should just send your video in to "Unsolved Mysteries" and call it a day. ;)

I'll say about both my Griot's 6" polishers, they both say Professional, but they do sound a little different. I assumed it was because I bought them a year apart and thus one was used a lot more, but now I think I'll look further into it.

I love it, now there is implication that there is a new dog in town that will be better, yet no one knows anything about it? Type, power, yet it's already better???:dunno:

One thing is for sure, I doubt they will manufacture it themselves unless they are Porter Cable, Flex, or XYZ company otherwise it will be manufactured by someone already making them under a different brand name. It's called private labeling, who knows this mystery machine could be a different color clone to the current Griots, wouldn't that be a kick? Or a rebranded PC/XP? :bash::pc7424:

Wonder when Max will team with Flex to build the Geek Buffer?:buffing:

I'm in!:hungry:

I'm assuming hes talking about the new 3D/HD one. It does seem very promising as they have some great products.

can't wait to here some feedback on this, i'm sure it will be along the lines of the GG6 in power (i'm starting to save already :D )and yes 3D/HD makes some fantastic products!

One could mark it down as "manufacturing variation" (motor, speed control switch tolerances, etc). The spec'ed design may not have changed but the manufacturer can use "equivalent" parts that are not always equivalent. In Mark's case, it would be an outlier data point on the high end.

Thank you.

Mark has had a love affair with several polishers and has dumped them all---he doesn't seem to be the type to commit ;)

has anyone tried the Makita random orbital polisher ?

I disagree with this post. I have both. one with professional and one with random orbital sticker on them.

The reality is that the one I have that is new out of the box says random orbital and is very powerful.

The one that I have that was a re-furb and warrantied says professional on it and is the one that is slightly less powerful.

IMO, the warrantied machines are tuned down slightly as to avoid failure.

either way, both of the machines are FAR more powerful than my PCXP and Megs G110V2.

Geez, this thread is still going!

This thread hasn't even gotten going good yet

Both machines need to be taken to an Armature shop and have them take both of the machines apart and tell you what the difference is. If they both do indeed have identical parts, then it must be that something is toned down

Bottom line is the "New" Griots RO6 is not as powerfull as the older version
Thats my story and I'm sticking with it

I saw Mark's vid and I know the guy knows what he is talking about, so I don't doubt him. I took 2 brand new Griot (no professional on the machine or the box) and they performed as good as my older Griot (professional). Dunno

Feel free to PM me if anyone is interested in the web-site-link to my choice for a "Buffing Machine"...
It has professional written all over it!!

Mark, maybe a forced rotation will make you happier. I hope you are able to find a machine that gives you all the features and performance you seek. Good detective work... keep up the good work.

Mark - forced rotation? LOL. Mark does seem to have a "hot" one since others have not seen the same phenomenon. It is a mystery.

I have a feeling the only ppl wanting this thread closed are Griots employees ;)
