Flex 3401 or rupes bigfoot.

+1! :dblthumb2:

I wish there was a way to test these machines out before you purchased. Considering most orders are made on reviews from others and $400 on a buffer you haven't tried can be a big gamble.

Detail Fest! :D

I don't plan on trading my Flex for anything any time soon. I'm just an enthusiast at the moment and for me, the Flex can do what any other machine can do. Time savings and feel is a subjective matter. I remember when Flex was THE MACHINE and everyone was getting them. Now all of a sudden half of the people in this thread are bashing it just because something new came out. I am starting to think it's all in your heads and you just want the next new thing. I give it another year before there's something new to come to the scene and people will be talking smack about the Bigfoot in similar fashion pointing out all its faults. I never had issues of the Flex walking me all over the place, it was a bit tricky at first since I've never used other buffers but the learning curve is very narrow and learning to use it was not hard at all for me.

Ditto all of that!!

Have you tried the rupes? I didn't think it was going to be hold up to the hype til I tried it last weekend. It is by far a lot better than the 3401. It is so much smoother and easier to do corrections, I will use it a lot more. I just have to put my barely used 3401 up for sale even if I have to take a huge loss on it and I'll pick one up.

It took me a few minutes to know that I had to get rid of my 3401 and buy a bigfoot. I wish I didn't have to, but I really love how the rupes felt and how much better it worked.

I can find about a million posts about people saying that exact same thing when the 3401 came out. Not saying you are wrong, maybe the Bigfoot is the better machine.

Most of the people I know that actually use buffers on a daily basis still use the trusty old Makita because with enough skill and experience, it can correct faster and finish just as good or better than any DA. If you tell them about using a PC or a DA they would just laugh. Not saying DAs don't have their place, but it's all relative. You'd have to be mad to just sell off all your old equipment just because something new came out. Find something that works for you and stick with it. Some people like the rotary, some like a regular DA like the GG or PC, some like the Flex, and obviously now some prefer the Bigfoot. It doesn't mean there is only one clear winner.

There will always be a better tool for each particular job, which is why it's good to have a selection of different tools. I started on a rotary 23 years ago and while they are no longer my go to tools, they still get used. The key is being open to change and not getting stuck in ones old ways. ;)

Rasky..... wow, now if Rupes or Flex can make something like that small pneumatic Bigfoot in your picture....and make it electric, THAT is an item that is long overdue on the market. I cannot believe the only option we have now is the crappy GG 3" which is not a quality tool in my opinion, there's SO much room to improve on it.

There are rumors of an electric version of the LHR 75 coming out :xyxthumbs:

Yeah, if they can make an electric with the size and power of the current LHR75, that would be a HUGE seller!!! :)

Would you know if maybe Todd Cooperider would know about an electric version coming out?

Have you tried talking to Kevin Brown he might have the inside track on things.

Don't really talk to Todd anymore. I talk to Kevin for anything Rupes related.

I keep passing on buying the gg 3" even though a 3" would come in really handy for some spots on my car because that thing looks like a kids toy. And the air compressor requirement is pretty big for the lhr75 so that is a deal breaker. Now if I had a big garage, I would buy a huge air compressor and have all of the toys, but I got a narrow and shallow 2 car garage and I have to share it with the gf.

is it really that much better than the flex ?

In less than a minute I knew that it was that much better to handle and a few minutes later I knew that it was better at correction. If you try one you probably will end up buying one.
