Give them a PC.

I get to see my teenage daughter every other week since she lives with my Ex. I started to bring her along for some jobs on the weekends. I taught her how to use the GG 3" polisher and this last weekend she graduated to the PC. With a bit more practice, she will be moving on to the Flex. Seeing her takes to the PC like duck to water....almost drew a tear in my eye. LOL.

During the jobs, we talked about everything under the sun (from politics to BOYS). During the week, she would text me about cars she had seen (mostly how bad/hammered they are). Her latest text to me was " My friend XXXX is another one of those who can't tell a swirl from a squirrel". I feel another tear coming......

Kudoes to you, and your Daughter, for having such a great relationship!! :props:

Besides doing 'detailing'...
I also had my Daughters doing oil changes and many under-the-hood projects before they left Home.

Armed with these types of: "car information"...
They have always been less susceptible to the:

BTW: Thanks for bringing back some memories.

It is amazing how quickly you can connect when you get all the electronic gadgets put away. To people working together can't help but strike up a conversation. Good on you for keeping a good relationship with your daughter despite living apart. My mom and dad divorced before I can remember, but my dad worked very hard to stay in my life and we have a great relationship that I treasure to this day because of it (I'm 35).

You hit the nail right on the head. It's the electronic distractions that impede familial relationships. Whether it's me checking email or my kids reading or playing games on the iPad, it halts communication. The OP's scenario is a great example of how when two people get together to do a common task, lines of communication seem to open up naturally. They key is to find time to work or play together in a way that encourages conversation--not hinders it. Not always easy.

What's that cord control device she's using? Don't tell me Garry Dean patented something else...

Very cool OP!

I am starting early since I know how tough bonding with teens can be

Dude its scary how much he has picked up from just watching me...and he is not even two yet! He would very methodically spray and then wipe and worked his way around the car  And check out his tongue sticking out, serious concentration...
Talk about putting a smile on your face...but my wife is worried I will pass along my OCD tendencies lol

I like the little guy keeping his power wheels clean thats priceless

Man, at first I thought a King Kong size beer bottle was going to drop from the sky and smash me in my office reading this thread, but it turned out to be VERY COOL!

In this day and age of texting, Facebook, and Twitter; it is very to difficult to relate to teenagers let alone have bonding time like fishing, sports, ect.

EVERYTHING about a teenagers life is planned, communicated, and executed through finger strokes on their smart phone.

It is so nice to see them put down their phones and pick up a power tool!

.....picture below had me laughing out loud. Adam's really?..too funny!:cool pics:
