I know the feeling well. I think that the VT garage qualifies for an episode of 'Hoarders'.
If it is indeed stainless, and well used, we're looking at more than 1 day to correct.
Here's the problem. If SS, then it's probably scratched halfway across the galaxy and back. Removing deep scratches from SS requires ALOT of time and sanding steps. We're talking 180-240 to start. Bumping up 80-100 additional grit to remove the original sanding marks. Then around 400 grit, chased by 600.
Now comes the fun. Stainless requires somewhere around 8000 sfm to achieve correction after sanding. A handheld polisher with a 8" wheel is going to get you in under optimal sfm's (7000 or so). That's a lot of time spent with the emory bar and a cutting wheel.
Then you have to chase it with a green bar paired with a medium cutting wheel. If it's progressing well then you can continue on. If not then have to go back to one of your sanding steps.
So if you can continue without regressing, there will still be two, or more polishing steps.
I may suffer from OCD, but that's a lot of time spent with a screaming polisher in one's hand for one day.
Just sayin'...
